I'm curious /k/ how good would this arm our be in and out of combat?
Also if it helps it's meant for deserts.

the helmet and chestplate would be good, the rest not so much

the only useful armor would be power armor or the stealth suits
>>
>>30452199
the coat is designed to be worn in rainy weather. in desert winds the tails can get fucking annoying, also, i had a thin (under usual belt thickness) leather coat once. once it gets above 25°C you want to rip that thing off, which the pauldrons and bracers seem to prevent. stupuid idea.
>>
It was made for riot suppression.
It was designed to strike fear into the rioters when they beat them up with their nightsticks (or worse)
>>
>>30452265
Leather of course not for that weather
oilskin dusters maybe
they usually have straps to keep the tails on your legs e.g. when riding a horse
>>

lose the coat, or button it up and tie the tails to your legs. you don't need that shit flapping around.

Well the game intends it to be a uniform. Also keep in mind the Rangers are supposed to be the toughest guys out there, so light equipment like a rifle or a revolver, some advanced body armor and helmet arent so bad.

I used a mod to remove the logistics for power armor altogether. No core drain, no damage buildup, for consistency.

Modding weapons is enough of a drain on resources even having modded out the need for them to build in settlements and such.

Doable for the mojave if you have enough water.
The pauldrons would suck for a firearm, the breast plate looks heavy but if it's like 30+ pounds balanced total it's not worse than modern armor weightwise.
Mask would be severely uncomfortable on its own, helmet over it if straps are adjusted to fit isn't really going to change it much.
If you need vision inserts you'd probably rather kill yourself or die in a gas attack than wear the mask part.

Until you try to justify why they're using 20th century small arms and unarmored jeeps with manned, exposed turrets in the 26th century.

They have fucking FTL, MACs, etc, but they're guns are literally just bulkier versions of ours and for some reason their ground combat doctrine hasn't changed one iota in five centuries.

Shit. As with everything from Fallout 4.
>>
>>30452199

You have to take into account that fallout is not realistic in any way nor it intends to be, just look at how they designed the shotguns in 3/new vegas or the assault rifle in 4,

Fallout is just a dieselpunk world and its aesthetic is mainly dominated by that punk subgenre where it works perfectly fine from start to finish, so any realism that derives from that is purely accidental and shouldn't be taken into account in any way.

The real question here is, does that looks like something from 50-60s but with modern materials/design?

The UNSC Army had the best uniforms (except maybe the ODSTs). Reach definitely went more 21st century, but the truth is it makes more sense than most other Halo games.

The Army BDU just great because it looks more cheap and worn down than most marine uniforms, but also extremely pragmatic. In Halo, the Army has been mostly relegated to guarding the Homefront and fighting insurrectionists (the Covenant doesn't even bother launching ground invasions on most planets, so the Army usually gets glasses before they get to fight), so they don't need the highest tech, they just need rugged reliability.

Unlike the marines in Halo 3 (with the same color scheme as the HECU in Half-Life, which was specifically designed to make them MORE visible to the player), the soldiers mostly wear less armor (only a handful actually wear shin guards, for example), have properly colored uniforms, have non-armored knee pads, and actually carry pouches and packs.
>>
>>30464208
>dieselpunk
>dieselpunk/atomicpunk

ftfy

But that only means it's going to be even less realistic. It's supposed to a fallout wasteland 200 years after a retro future as envisioned by 50's era sci fi, so yeah. Looks fun as shit. But would be terrible in real life.

Fallout has only been "dieselpunk" in the last few installments, the old games had a weird 90s comic book aesthetic, with modern/futuristic looking guns right next to rayguns and plasma casters.
>>
Keep in mind people with guns aren't even the biggest threat to these guys. It's junkies with makeshift and stolen weapons using shit ammo and vicious, mauling wildlife.
>>
>>30464222

INNIES
>>
>>30464274
The UNSC is pretty evil though. The Spartan programmed was commissioned to stop secession. They conscripted child soldiers (mutilating and murdering many of them in the process) just to fight a separatist movement.

And the UNSC wasn't even supposed to be in control! The actual civilian government is the UEG, and they controlled the colonies through the Colonial Authority. The UNSC was basically the military arm of the UEG, and took over control of the civilian government pretty quick once the Covenant war started. The innies had reason to believe that the UNSC has been looking for an excuse to do this for a long time.
>>
>>30464274
Also, insurrection war based Halo game when? I think they made an Arma mod for this.

They're not too dangerous in the games, especially in 3 and New Vegas, but in reality?

You can get the ultimate edition of NV and 3 for 20 bucks or so total while the sale is on, combine them with Tale of Two Wastelands and it's the most money efficient game you'll ever play.

I've put a lot of time and effort into modding the game, it's like a hobby in and of itself.

Fallout has become full meh teir for me.

Back in 2012 I fucking loved FNV and Skyrim on the 360 that I bought them both on PC for the mods, and modded the absolute fuck out of the game.

I remember this one mod where I believe it was a M98B in fallout, but the issue was the mod maker was retarded as fuck, making the firing sound 10x louder than the real gun itself, and it blew out my speakers after I gave it to Boone, who spammed it at 9000rps when in combat, completely fucking my ears, despite being on the lowest setting.

Eventually I completely stopped playing, forgot what was fun about, why I even played it, and now whenether I look at either it's just like " eh. " and I don't even look at them.

A friend even lenses me fallout 4 for a week and it was a lot better than FNV but it was still just a bunch of " meh "

It was scavenged riot armor components. Their role was that of scout/LRRP. The Nevada ranger armor was never intended to be used as a riot suppression armor.

If you look at camp golf you see the type worn of clothing worn on regular basis. The brown medium "ranger armor" was used in more built up areas such as NCR territory.
>>
>>30466271
There were two types of rangers. These are rangers, taken from locals. They were the best of the best and then given the best gear.

If I remember, the logic behind the unarmored jeeps is that they're fucked against the Covenant's weaponry no matter how armored they are. With that in mind, they stripped all the armor to save weight and increase speed. It's pretty dumb, but there's some logic.
>>
>>30480271

Makes sense. A handful of plasma hits will fuck that armor anyway. Maximum speed is the better tool in that box.
>>
>>30479450
>There were two types of rangers.
Correct-ish, the "black" riot-gear-based armor is given to Ranger Veterans, basically they're the Rangers tough enough to have survived to make it to vet status. Regular rangers wear the Ranger Patrol Armor, as seen here>>30464304

>These are rangers, taken from locals. They were the best of the best and then given the best gear
Incorrect-ish, the "locals" you seem to be referring to are the Desert Rangers who used to patrol that part of the Mojave; they merged with the NCR Rangers and are the ones who inspired black armor that the Veteran Rangers wear.

The NCR is pretty lenient with what the vets get to use. Ranger Veterans usually have AMRs, Trail Carbines and the signature Ranger Sequoia.

Sterling isn't a ranger but a First Recon sharpshooter and they let him use a modified Cowboy Repeater.

Funny, the uninterruptible power supplies I test with a new, fully charged battery, will read 100% then rapidly deplete during a load test. Now mind you the battery isn't the problem 99% of the time, it is some of the components of the UPS that have gone bad and can't accurately determine the battery's charge. Just some food for thought.

Additionally, radioactive material has a half-life too. It may still read 100%, but 100% of 5 kC isn't the same as 100% of 10 kC.

While there was a psuedo hippie/beatnick subculture going on pre war, by the time the war was imminent anyone even suspected of holding some kind of antiwar sentiment was wither an unamerican subversive or an out and out commie.

Considering that the base commander calling them hippies was an almost cartoonish maniac who wrote his reports in such a way as to suggest he was masturbating while dreaming about gunning down protestors with machinegun fire, I doubt his statements can be taken as being factually accurate or well balanced.

That or being big grazing herbivores they couldn't survive because it seems most of the grass has died off in a lot of the continent.

What I want to know is why bows and arrows never show up in Fallout, anywhere. It's like everyone forgot about them entirely, with primitive tribal cultures going from spears and clubs to simple firearms with no middle ground.
>>
>>30465517
Because it's better to be mobile than to have extra armor in most cases, and armor on your legs severely limits mobility. This is literally the first issue when designing any armor.
>>
>>30452199
Just came back from National Training Center about a week ago in the Mojave. This armor is just impractical for that environment. In full uniform alone I was sweating through my clothes and going through about 3 camelbacks a day. We had to do simulations where we had full body armor on and put gas masks on because during the simulations they threw CS gas at us. After experiencing that, which is basically the same as what you're showing me in the OP picture, plus a duster? Pretty much anyone not chugging water is going to go down from the heat in less than an hour.

Wouldnt the world be just a tad bit cooler after a nuclear war? Maybe thats why the rangers can wear full body coverings in the Mojave. The NCR troopers complain about the heat but hell even northerners complain when they visit Texas in the summer. The new NCR troops may have no idea how 90+ degrees feels since it may be between 70 to 80 in the summer because of the climate change? No idea really just conjecture.

The FO4 engine is so bad for the modding community. There are a LOT of problems with modding things in, not least of which is that it's apparently really hard, as in nigh impossible for them to mod in fresh animations, and you need paid programs and software licenses to do it, while previous games it could be done with free stuff.

Which means we're probably not going to see as many reload animations and stance animations for the game.

Nigga killed degenerating mutants, ghouls, tried to save old people. raised like two families and I think both of them died, and had the balls to as an aging man become a "god of the caves" and raise random children into a whole tribe of people all while not even being seen.
