Alright /k, help OP with this nugget.
Found it in a shop early this morn, the stock is flawless and shiney, fit for ivan and his comrads.
Should I pick her up for 160?

If the bbl is good then yeah get it.
>>30438630
It's either laminated or refinished (or both). For $160 though these days is pretty good. If you want a Mosin it should be fine.

>1942 Izhevsk M91/30
Most common nugget on Earth. I suppose with a laminate stock it's worth $160 nowadays, though.
>>30438683
Short hand for barrel. Don't remember why it's that particular abbreviation. Anyways if the barrel is fine (no series pitting, sharp lands and grooves, etc) it'll be good is what he was saying.
>>30438683
Barrel. Put a borelight in it and look for any ovious horrible pitting. If not, you're good to go. That is a good price these days.
Barrel is unpitted, wood is honey gold. No claymore for barrel though.
Should I pick it up or hope a better one comes along?
Also, is this a russian or romanian
>>30438789
A better one for that price will not come along.
>>30438789
Russian. Izhevsk factory.
>>30438789
I'd be wary of 1942 production, considering that was the height of the Soviet arms shortage. If your sights aren't canted and you are OK with the possibility that the rifle could shoot 4moa why not.
>>30438907
The city of izhevsk is not a factory, Izhmash on the other hand is.
I the sights were straight, nothing was bent. Every inch of the rifle LOOKED ok, im just new to older rifles. Got a 7.7 in the closet that I pieced together, looks in rough condition. Havent fired yet out of fear of finger loss
>>30440647
you couldnt manage a catastrophic failure in a type 99 if you tried, friend. youd have to intentionally block the barrel.
>>30440660
Hmm. Interesting. In that Case I may go hunt for the ammo and have a day with it.
Dont think firing it would damage it?
>>30440748
as long as its not a smoothbore trainer rifle or (supposedly) last ditch rifle, theres practically no chance of it failing. type 99s are the second strongest action ever made, behind the type 38.
>>30440108
Izhmash is not the ancient Imperial arsenal that made the Mosins in Izhevsk.
>>30438630
Buy it!
>>30441337
The actual fuck are you talking about?
Izhmash is the factory in Izhevsk, Russia where that Mosin was made. The same factory where papa Mikhail worked until his death.
иcкaть тoвapищa, 91/30!
Goddamn sideway auto post
>>30440748
>hunt for ammo
>type 99
>7.7
Better get some reloading dies man that shit is pricey. I think I paid $43 for 20 rounds of Norma last time I bought it.
>>30442704
Not the same guy but you're being an Autist.
1. IZMASH name didnt come about until post war, so the other guy is right.
2. The other factory is in Tula so you can't even get confused, as if there were two factories in Izhevsk producing the same rifles.
tl;dr: Izhevsk is the CORRECT name, and anyone who says otherwise is retarded.
>>30443710
Honestly, I would just want a box or two of ammo.
One box to hold on to, and one to shoot just to
Say the rifle still works. Wish the ammo was more common, but thats what you get for buying war relics going on their century birthday.
>>30438789
Yes. I just paid 470 kommibux for a nugget yesterday
>>30438630
42 Izhevsk, has square stamp for arsenal refurb. Might be good, might be bad. Bolt is forced matched via electropencil, which reduces value vs. real matching parts. Laminated stock.
Is it counter-bored? If no rifling in the first inch or so of the BBL, it is. That also decreases value.
>>30445422
Sheit, I guess if its nice it could be worth it.
