I have a problem /k/,
I come from South Dakota and am 100% from the Lakota tribe. My ancestors run back many generations, my family even has pre-Anglo relics.
My family and my people love guns, I've been shooting since I was 5 and we have a giant vault room with over 100 rifles, handguns, and shotguns, even 19th century lever action rifles.
But things changed when I moved to Texas when I got accepted to UT Dallas for post grad. I brought some guns from home, and would go to the range and never liked my experiences there. I always got stares from all the white people, some asked if I was middle eastern, some asked if I was from ISIS, and a lot gave me the cold shoulder. Thought it could have been this one range but every gun shop or range I went to I felt like I was either looked down upon or judged based on the color of my skin.
I like the second things they do, we probably had similar experiences with firearms like hunting and shit, but they treated me like shit cause I'm not white.
People always told me that gun culture was a white club, but I didn't believe it. What the fuck /k/? My people have been killed off, we have had our rigets then away, we have been disarmed, our past is what white people are afraid of now.

White guy from Houston here. You'd likely have no problems in Texas EXCEPT for in Dallas (well, also in Vidor, but no one in their right mind would go there). Dallas is a very old, very white city, and not just in the "lots of white people" way, but in a "clutch my pearls and faint on the veranda if the negro gardener looks at me" kind of way. They probably thought you were a terrorist, because that's what they do. In San Antonio, Austin, or Houston, you would be treated warmly, and if anyone mistook your race, they would think you were Mexican first (and hey, sorry about that bro, we have so many Mexicans here that that's just gonna be what most people assume, unless you're wearing clothing that explicitly identifies you as a Native).
In El Paso you would also get treated well, but because all the Mexicans there speak Spanish first and English second (if at all), coupled with the fact that they're right on the New Mexico border and see Mescalero Apaches on a semi-regular basis because of it, and you're actually somewhat likely to have people recognize you as Native right out the gate.
Houston's gun culture is equal parts white and Mexican, and I believe it's roughly the same in San Antonio. While a lot of shooters in America are white, it's not just a white's only club, but you were unfortunate to move to the one big-city part of the state where you'd encounter this.
If you're ever farther south, check out some of the ranges here, I guarantee you'll have a better time.

There is literally nothing keeping native americans from being sucessful in life. The majority of them get thousands of dollars, if not some tribes tens of thousands for doing little more than breathing. They get free education. Free healthcare. If they need need cloths or a new laptop for the fall semester, their tribe will send them money for that kind of stuff. Lots of them get a bonus check when they turn 18. They don't have to pay for public schools or public school lunches in most cases. They have their own tribal universities that cost almost nothing to attend and only natives may attend and if they choose not to go to college and their tribes own casinos they can easily get a full time job working for their tribe. There are tons of scholarship opportunities and grants available only to them because 'muh opression'. Never have to buy hunting/fishing/trapping licenses. Have their own tribal lands that aren't even considered part of the USA so they can literally do whatever they want on their land as far as shooting/blowing shit up for fun. Yet here in the midwest, the majority of them, not all of them, but the majority choose to down soda and firewater, get diabetes, squander their money, bounce back and forth between societies then go back to the rez when they're broke and sit around being bitter as fuck towards white people

OP, this might be asking a lot, but I would encourage you to try and make some gunbros at the range. Try and approach some of the people that give you weird looks and start a conversation over whatever it is that they're shooting. Maybe once they realize you are talking with a thick accent they'll cut you a break. The race thing doesn't even really need to come into it, the objective of talking to them shouldn't be to clarify in saying "Oh, I'm powwow, not curry/sandy." otherwise you'll be doing that to every new schmuck that walks in. It's also not really something that you should need to do in the first place. The objective should be to show them that you are a gun lover, same as them, and aren't trying to pull some snackbar shit. Maybe if you start to become a regular the tards will get the message. Hell, I have some social issues, which makes talking about guns really hard to do in public both because it involves talking to humans, and talking about a touchy issue, I end up stuttering a lot and sweating, which makes me come off as the gun nut getting ready to shoot up some school, or as someone who is literally too mentally retarded to buy a firearm. People love to espouse the virtues of the constitution and the founding fathers, but they often do so out of context so that it fits into their narrative of what being American means.
If you're going to quote the constitution, it should be meaningful in the manner in which it was intended.
By ignoring implied position in society, the meaning was drastically altered. I'm not arguing on behalf of antiquated notions of race and ability and all that, but I find it disingenuous, particularly when incorporating things like sexual orientation, which the constitution makes absolutely no mention of, not even in amendments, and more particularly when those claiming equal rights force a changing of a definition which they know will change and limit the rights of others, solely because they believe it will grant them more social acceptance. That is flat-out wrong.
So if you want to classify being American as ad-hock changing of the law for revisionist measures, then go ahead, but I disagree. That is what I see as degradation of America.
