Which one is better?
>>
The handguards on the A1s were shit, they cracked and the little fins broke off in the field all the time. The A2 sights are more adjustable and better protected.

The A2 is more certainly "better" but the A1 is a more comfortable rifle with the A1 Pistol Grip and shorter stock, and it looks more prolific.
>>
That A1 on the bottom has an A2 lower...
>>
>>30425086
I used the A1 in the Infantry. The A2 is all around better. Zero contest. Fuck aesthetics.
>>

>That 1.5 inch web sling
>>
>>30425118
So a1 with round handguards? The a2 elevation was too complicated for soldiers, you have to preset it then zero then reset the srum again. Just a simple flip sight with 2 ranges was so much easier
>>
A2 has a shit barrel profile that was born from literal stupidity and FUCK its stock and grip. It does have better handguards and rearsight though.

A1 looks sexier, weighs a full pound less, and is more comfortable all around. Rear sight is a bit of a pain to work with, and the handguards will crack if you so much as sneeze at them.

An M16A2 with an A1 barrel, A1 grip and A1 stock would be perfect.
>>
>>30425172
You want one? I have like ten
>>
>>30425199
Oh yeah, burst fire can suck a dick. Worthless while making the trigger feel like a spongy mess.
>>
>>30425138
You do know there were A1s with full-fence lowers, right?
>>
A1 problems; cracking handguards/ buttplate, weaker lower and no shell deflector
>>
>>30425270
That is an A2 lower lower though, look at the added material around the front takedown pin and rear
>>
>>30425138
>>30425270
As a matter of fact, the 'A1' was the first model to have a full fence lower.

Got plenty of my own! There's just something about how those look on a rifle; only problem is the amount of cheap copies nowadays that are selling for like $25+

>>
>>30426350
C7 uppers have A1 carry handles. Surplus Diemaco and DPMS are your best shots, and good luck.
>>
>>30425147
Tell us why, in detail.

/opens notebook
>>
The only thing they shoulda changed from A1->A2 was a washer for the rear sight screw to take out all slop, A2 birdcage, A2 lower, Glock polymer for the furniture, and maybe make the barrel thicker and taper from extension to FSB.

>>30425172
>not liking the 1.5" Colt black 'silent sling'
pleb.

>>30425279
>cracking handguards/ buttplate, weaker lower
fairly legit, but not that much effect on rifle as whole.
>and no shell deflector
only problem if you a lefty. Its actually better due to the fact you aint flinging shiny brass 5' out to catch the enemy's eye.

>>30426239
>dat profile with A1 upper
disgusting.
>>
>>30426261
Turner diaries?
>>
A2 has better sights, A1 is lighter and has more dakka.
>>
>>30427189
It's a C7 with A1 furniture you nigger.
>>
>>30425086
Take the handguards, rear sight aperture (just the aperture), front sight post off the A2 and put them on the A1. Then you'd really have something.
>>
The A1 weighs less for a reason - the thicker barrel and carry handle are some of that, but the cheap handguards everyone here is bitching about is part of the reason too.
>>
>>30425086
A1 looks better
A2 has all the impairments the A1 needed.

building a A2 clone right now acually.

>>
>>30425086

The A1 is lighter, simpler, and full auto with better sights suited for combat (not ridiculous match sights). It's a purpose built combat rifle, the A2 is a compromise of trying to make a fighting rifle a match/competition rifle and it suffers for it.
>>
>>30425086
The one with the windage adjustments?
>>
>>30430416
They both have adjustable windage
>>
I built an A2 clone, and I'm surprised at how light it is compared to multiple 16" ARs I've shot. Cant imagine an A1 weighing 1lb less. I imagine it would be great, I want to built an A1 now but it would feel a little weird having two very similar 20" ARs.
>>

>>

>>
both are considered muskets now.
>>
>>30431470
Both are wrong actually, the A1 used a 3 prong flash hider and not the bird cage
>>
>>30426284
They're also made to handle cold weather much better.

All in all, the C7 is a very good rifle.
>>
>>30433403
They used both, the three prong was abandoned early along.
>>
>>30433403
It used both, the three prong was replaced with a birdcage one eventually, because it would snag on vegetation.
>>
>>30433438
>They're also made to handle cold weather much better.
How?
>>
>>30433455
>>30433448
I am objectively wrong then, I thought the birdcage was added with the A2

Cept not since it specifically says it only covers rifles up to the 80s. Go away tripfag lol, all the sources on wikipeds are cited, you're not a university professor, no one cares that you think it needs to come from some unique location.

also thicker chrome lining

> In order to pass the Canadian military’s strict testing, Colt Canada has had to use a slightly thicker and more ductile chrome lining than would be typically found in a rifle barrel, as a result of the cold temperatures a Canadian service rifle is required to operate at. During the extreme cold weather testing at that aforementioned -68 degree mark, it was found that standard “mil-spec” chrome linings can actually crack due to the tremendous temperature difference between the ambient temperature and the heat produced by a rifle firing on fully automatic.
