Would shooting teams at all public high schools be a good idea?

Shooting is both a social activity and competitive on an individual basis. Good for non athletic kids who don't like football or basketball. Also gender neutral, both girls and boys can enjoy it.
>>
>>30422522
its pretty expensive and time consuming so probably not
>>
>>30422522
If not, it would be a pretty good idea to at least have a gun safety class at the high schools so that it teaches them more about responsibility and how to RESPECT and use a dangerous item properly.
>>
>>30422522

probably wiser as a college sport than a high school sport
>>
>>30422522
Ammunition is expensive so I don't really see it happening, it would be nice though

>>30422659
Hell, incorporate firearms handling and safety in gym classes since grade 4 or something, it'll basically destroy all anti-gun sentiment by getting rid of the fear and misinformation.
>>
>>30422522
Good luck getting a school district to blow money on a shooting range and equipment for a sport with limited competitive options and little interest among students. Sorry senpai, the entire budget is going to go towards renovating the football field.
>>
A lot of schools already have rifle teams.
>>
>>30422708

Why not introduce a handloading class that goes along with the program?

I was on my school's trap team in HS. I think every school in our county and the surrounding counties had trap, skeet, and rifle teams.

Liability

You know how many schools have cut PE, AG and music programs?

Anyway, I shot skeet and took my hunters safety course at my high school, and some of the local colleges have shotgun and rimfire teams. Most folks around here already have guns anyway
>>
Im in western NY and I do a lot of contracting work in schools,
I know there's at least 6 schools in WNY that have rifle teams that compete. I've been in a couple of the ranges that are just in the basement of the HSs. One of the schools is air rifle only though and they are all in wealthy areas.
If NY can do it the rest of the country can.
>>
>>30422522

The jrotc program at my high school had a rifle team. We also had a rack of sabers in the supply room

there needs to be a miltia class as a mandatory elective where you learn basic guerrilla tactics and after passing you receive your very own rifle.

Rimfire, or Air rifle sounds like a great idea. Cheap ammo (.22LR has never been expensive in Ausfag land to my knowledge). The safety attitudes learnt are consistant throughout any handheld weapon.

Might sound retarded, but if there was some way to reduce air pressure (in a calculated way), you could simulate long distance fire by increased bullet drop with an air rifle. This could help simulate large ranges, in an indoor/basement range most likely used by schools. Has this been done before?
>>

Where in WNY? I got to do Archery in middle and high school out in Lockport. Dunno if they still do it since it was almost 10 years ago

Nigger, the average public school student costs $40,000 a year. Are you so daft as to think that a $200 Ruger 10/22, Marlin 795, Remington 597, and a bunch of $100 suppressors come close to putting a dent in? It costs the schools more money to run a wood shop than an outdoor rimfire range, and the only perpetual costs in a 25 yard basement range is the unused space, ventilation, lights, minor backstop maintenance, ammo, and an RSO.
I hate to tell you this but $5 per student in ammo once or twice a week ain't shit.

It's a good idea, but I'd rather merge with a general citizenship class because people have become extremely government illiterate in recent times.

You know, CITIZENSHIP CLASS
>Who your local representatives are, and what they actually do
>How to file your taxes properly
>Laws concerning you and voting
>Gun ownership, use and maintenance

Like I really don't know how people would be opposed to it, but I imagine the people that would vote for it don't know how to vote for their school board, ironically.

They can, that really isn't the problem. The problem is that it would require funding, and do nothing to preserve the status quo.

You should look up your local elections and laugh at how few people voted; for instance, I'm running in 2019 for alderman in my city because my city is fucking shit.

The current incumbent won with over 80% of the vote, and only 4k people voted. During his term, he signed into law a bill that made a person running require double the signatures to be on the ballot.
>>
>>30422659
This. I live in a country where people hate guns with a passion, and I've heard so many snarky comments about "I'm so glad we have proper gun control here, unlike the US" and it drives me fucking ballistic. Any gun aside from a wooden bolt action is a "scary, babby killun mass-murder weapon of war"
>>
>>30422522
How do you screen the r9k narcissists?
>>
>>30425597
A class on how to do taxes properly would've been great.

Dunno why you would want everybody to take a class on firearms it would kinda be like making everybody learn how to drive stick. Even so gun use is pretty self explanatory and gun maintenance is explained in the manual.
>>
>>30425145
School budgets are incredibly tight. In some areas the procurement of a single new school bus or bicycles for the gym class is very difficult. Many schools face questions of cutting sports or music from their budgets. Now you want to add something that would be fairly decisive to that list?

Plus which sport team would get the shaft so that the range could be built?

How much would the required storage security cost?

What will the liability costs be? These are minors with guns mind you.

What will the added insurance costs be?

What will the maintenance costs be?

Does the school need to hire a specific firearms coach/instructor/teacher? That is 36-66 grand per year right there.

Insurance and liability are the why reasons even simple things like dodge ball aren't allowed anymore. Dodge ball is a hell of a lot safer than firearms around angsty teenagers.

>>30422522
As I mentioned above the major considerations are insurance and liability. One kid gets injured and the school could face a multi-million dollar lawsuit. Archery is a difficult enough thing for a school to do, and usually the schools that have archery are very rich.

I did competitive shooting on a high school team (best in our area). Basically most of the school didn't even know we existed until the year before i graduated and we finally got a case for our (many) trophies. After that it got filled with people whom had never touched a gun before and I would fear for my safety if i were ever next to them at a range ever again.
>>
>>30422745
This was the story on my high school team. Every one paid their own way, but the school bought that astrotruf shit for the football field.

Because if people are the militia, then it makes sense that a citizen should have proper training in the use of weapons.

Besides, you'd probably see a ridiculous decrease in crime and accidental discharges as people become more familiar with firearms.

>would not decease crime since there is not much you can do when somebody put a gun in your face
I'd argue that if you trained more persons in firearms use, you'd have a larger percentage of the population owning and knowing how to use their firearms.

By raising the chance of the average civilian owning a gun, I believe that you would see people less willing to attempt to commit crime as the chance of getting shot has gone up. If it doesn't go down directly as a logical consequence, it would go down shortly after due to an increase in people getting shot to death legally.

If niggers become more effective at murdering each-other, it should logically lead to a decrease in crime as there are fewer living persons to commit crime.

At the very least, you would reduce the ridiculous amount of collateral damage in nigger related shootings.

wish a nigga could, but most crime is driven by hopelessness, whether self-inflicted or not is really irrelevant in this case. The only way I would see this working is some sort of kommando run YMCA knock-off that gets hoodlums off the streets and teaches them discipline, shooting and operating.

>wish a nigga could, but most crime is driven by hopelessness, whether self-inflicted or not is really irrelevant in this case.

I'd say that most crime is driven by passion, or profit. Passion is mostly irrelevant to control for; people do more poor choices.

Profit is only "profitable" when the risk is low enough to warrant the action. For instance, food trucks in Zimbabwe don't get raided by starving peasants because the trucks have armed escorts that will definitely murder them. In the same way, bank robbers don't attempt to rob fort knox, and most burglars don't have a long career if they choose to burgle in areas with rabid gun owners.

It's actually pretty interesting how crime works for most situations; very few people in developed nations are in the

>I must commit crime to survive
Mode of operation; you'd see this more in Latin America. Most of the crime in the developed world is
>I commit crime to obtain a standard of living that I am accustomed to
Which is consequentially much easier to prevent.

Depends. I took NJROTC in high school, and while our chapter couldnt touch guns cuz of our school board, there is a marksmanship ribbon. Also, while I was in we did petition the school board to allow us a marksmanship team so that we could compete with other chapters. It didn't go anywhere tho.
>>
Would be pretty simple to create a marksmanship class, club, or gym program with air rifles. Parents wouldn't get too butthurt and gun safety and familiarization can still be taught.

Wait a generation and those students will be parents who respect marksmanship and are down with their children firing live ammo.

A "Civics and the Militia" class would be pretty cool too, maybe once a week class is held at the air rifle range.
>>
>>30429684

Whites are only 63% of the country right now, down from 90% in 1965.
