I thought you guys might enjoy this.

http://www.range365.com/best-self-defense-handgun1

>It’s a perpetual argument: whether the 9mm or the .45 ACP is the better cartridge for a self-defense handgun. Nobody can argue intelligently about ballistics without referring to math and physics, and they both favor the .45 ACP.

>The argument invariably takes a turn to magazine capacity. The plastic-gun 9mm disciples always dash to that one when they get into trouble.
>My response is to laugh and tell them that I don’t plan my tactics around how many times I am going to miss, or how ineffective my cartridge of choice might be. Usually that’s where they point out that “new bullets” make the 9mm just as effective as the .45—but forgetting that those new bullets are loaded in the .45 too. End of argument.
>You can’t argue that 9mm just as effective as a more powerful cartridge with a bigger bullet. (It just makes you look like you’ve been tutored in common core math.)

>The effective striking power of the .45 counts for a lot anytime you are shooting to save your life.

>The STI pistols are works of art. I don’t think this one has ever jammed, and I’ve put about 400 rounds through it.

>This gun retails for $2,199 with night sights. If you are serious about defense, it’s worth every cent.

stopping power doesnt matter if you can't hit your target, its proven that in self defence scenarios people are panicked and usually mag dump towards the target, Id rather but 2 bullets in each bad guy than hope i dont miss
>>
>>30383229
>has ever jammed
>400 rounds
come back and see me after a few thousand
>retails for $2,199
Ill take a glock 19, plus night sights, plus mag extensions or even a 33 round mag, plus a tactical light, plus a suppressor, plus 1000 rounds of self defense ammo and still be under that price
>>
>>30383229
>$2,199 for a carry gun with night sights
I have never paid that much for a pistol in my life, nor will I.

Is this faggot serious? That's not even enough to break it in. Put 4 thousand through it. Maybe 8 thousand. Then come fucking talk to me. Actually. If you want to brag about it never jamming, put 20 thousand rounds through it. Then you can brag.

Yes I'm mad

No, if you're serious about defense you'll drop at most $700 on your carry pistol and the rest on a home defense long gun.

.45 stronk vs 9mm is a stupid debate when you can bring 5.56mm to the table.

>>
>>30383229
Had a Rock Island that on the maiden "break-in" trip put 500rnds through it of FMJ both brass & steel case. Zero malfunctions. Most other users will report similar results with every reputable pistol made today. Either your a weak troll, newguns, or just excited your $2k piece didn't crap out on you. Shoot more, up your round count, post results after its 5k+. Now fuck off

So following that logic, the best carry gun is a single shot 45/70?
>>
>>30383229
9mm and .45 have the same energy at the muzzle and the same effective stopping power.

9mm has more benefits, .45 is good but outclassed by 9mm in most aspects.

.45 fags on damage control all fucking year every fucking year
>>
>>30385089

As a gigantic 1911 fanboy, I have this to say:

9mm is fine. .40 is fine. .45 is fine. They'll all fucking kill a dude. The characteristics of a round (in a particular gun) usually effect your subjective experience in shooting far more than they change any terminal ballistic facts, and since round placement is 99% of it anyways, that's what matters most.

If one bullet was perfect for everyone, we wouldn't have ten trillion different kinds.
>>
>>30383229
The best self defense handgun is the one that's reliable and you can accurately shoot in multiple situations. As far as caliber goes, a .22 will kill someone just as dead as a .45.
>>
>>30384862
Yes
>>
>>30383229

> I don’t plan my tactics around how many times I am going to miss

Stopped right there, you're not "planning", you're fantasizing about what you want to be.

Go with 9mm......it better suits your "plan", plenty of misses in there, Ha.
>>
>>30383295
>people are panicked and usually mag dump towards the target
Actually, the average number of shots fired in a self defense scenario where shots ARE fired is three.
>>
>>30383229
>I’ve put about 400 rounds through it.

The best carry gun is SEVERAL single shot 45/70

I was going to comment on the lack of optic, but then I remembered gas pedals are gtg in limited.

Good looking blaster.
>>
>>30386284

yup. got it used from Enos. thought i wouldn't like the gas pedal (or at least where the nitro fin puts the thumb rest), but it turns out that i actually do counter recoil better with it and it's less obnoxious in dry fire. brought a spare slide release . trigger's so sweet. my Production P320 feels kinda awful in comparison, and my Hiperfire 24C and Baer have competition for best trigger i own.

still deciding between Racer and Race Master pouches and holsters - leaning toward bullets out Racer pouches and a Race Master holster in case i want to get a metal grip (thinking the SV Signature) down the line.
>>
>>30385780

But then it would be several guns, not a gun.

You need to combine them somehow into some sort of gatling pistol thing
>>
>>30386325
Interesting take on the 24c, I moved it to my precision gun since I disliked the perceptible locktime on my hoser. Back to an SD3G in it.

I'm just a casual local match guy though so its all (mostly) cheap gear and personal preference rather than performance driven.
>>
>>30386325
*than in dry fire. thought i'd have to drill my frame for like a C-more mount if i wanted a thumb rest.

>>30386432

my priorities trigger-wise are crisp, short, and light. i think Glocks have decent triggers all-considered, but they just take forever to break and that's given me trigger freeze more than a few times when i fail to let it reset.

Fucking playmobile trigger. At least some poly guns feel substantial, the FNX just feels incredibly plastic-y and cheap.

Even a bargain basement 1911 trigger puts them to shame.
>>
>>30386483

>>30386325 here. i had a FNX 9. it was an excellent combat handgun and one of the nicest and most well-thought-out handguns i've seen. but i sold it for a P320 because i still don't like shooting DA/SA and i don't have that excellent CZ SA trigger as a reward. i don't regret my choice.

I personally carry a RIA 10mm that is double stacked, when I first got it I thought it was going to be a meme tier gun but I really like how it handles and the recoil is comparable to a 9mm, even with the biggest loads I could get. No misfires or jams, only complaint is a double stacked 10mm can get pretty heavy.

>>30383229
My neighbor has one, and it's a jamtastic piece of garbage. He's so pissed he spent $2000 on it.

I've shot a lot of guns, some for long periods of time and eventually decided they weren't for me. I found I can get more lead downrange more accurately and acquire additional targets more quickly with the CZ-75 I've been shooting for years, which if I ever find myself in a gunfight is what I intend to do.

There is literally nothing wrong with any gun in any caliber if you're good with it.

if youre going to carry a gun that massive why carry it in .45 ACP if "stopping" power is that important? just carry a .50ae deagle or .500mag smith

I have this to say:

The bigger the bullet, the better. A bigger bullet means a greater chance of severing arteries, and causing more damage over a wider area.

HOWEVER

Everything is a compromise. The ideal handgun for a person is a simple formula:

Use the largest caliber possible
With the highest capacity possible
In a frame as compact as possible

Naturally, this varies from person to person, so a large man is more likely to use something in .45, and a smaller man something in 9mm. Keep in mind we're arguing about differences of hundredths of an inch, so there's never going to be a real answer. It's like arguing about the grains of sand on a beach.
