Me and my friend recently got into an argument about whether or not the M14 ever had a 3 round burst. I'm fairly certain that it never did, but he seems to think that the M14s given in vietnam had burst fire. My question is which one of us is right.

To answer your question, Yes Originally they were manufactured select fire (full auto only), but were later converted to semi auto only because it could not be fired accurately in full auto and was a terrible waste of ammo

Were semi-auto-only M14s ever issued during the Vietnam era? My grandfather was stationed in West Germany during the 60s and was issued an M14, but he said he doesn't think it had full-auto capability.
