Good investment and tons of fun, OP.

Invest in parts and you'll never need anything else except a fun ranch gun that runs cheaper shells.

sprongfoild is a shit tier meme company that can't even make repro guns properly. they can't even make a fucking pistol domestically.

anyone that buys springfield is a retard that has no idea about the true history of the company.
>>
>>30349653
I M1A.
Great rifle, but it's an older one with all GI parts aside the extractor, barrel, and receiver. No problems or signs of trouble in ~1400 rounds or so. Shot ~1.5 MOA in the stock, So far shoots 1 minute or so with Aussie surplus ball in the Sage chassis. It's a good design, but Springfield doesn't execute it so well on the new ones.
>>
>>30351765
>sprongfoild is a shit tier meme company

Anon, I have bad new for you: Springfield Armory was a complete pile of garbage sucking a huge amount of money to make basically the same gun since 1935. While every other free nation adopted the FN FAL, the US had to feed Springfield and went with the M14. Even Eugene Stoner had bad words to say about the old Springfield Armory. McNamara did one decent thing by taking them off the taxpayer tit. I love my M1a, but I have no illusions about how well new or old Springfield Armory is ran. The only thing retarded here is you making generalizations about stuff that you apparently know nothing about.

I fell into the hype about 6 years ago and bought a Springfield loaded m1a. I have never had bigger buyers remorse on any firearm. Finicky with handloads, comes with a gigantic warning paper about how the gun can explode due to slam fires, heavy as fuck over 13 lbs, worst cheek weld ever with a scope on you literally just have to hover your face. The only good thing about them is the iron sights. I sold it a month later for $50 less than I paid for it and bought an AR-10

No they didn't.
The tooling was supplied to Taiwan.
>>
>>30353062
Not all of it
>>
>>30353071
All of it that remained. Anything not sold to the Taiwanese was scrapped.
The Springfield Armory of today has zero relationship to the old one. The only link they have is the fact they used surplus parts and share the name.
They weren't even the first company to use the name after the gov arsenal was closed.

I'd rather a cheaper clone that requires a bit of polishing and better irons over $1300 Springshit
>>
>>30353091
Your completely wrong, all the tooling was sold off since it was govt property. Most did go to PRC, but some also went to the new SA and eventually wound up at the current one.
>>
>>30353099
who are you quoting?
>>
>>30353192
sprongfoild literally contracts out all the part making to taiwan. the only thing they do is machine the forged casting from canada inside the US and then assemble the guns.
>>
>>30353216
Yes they do minimal in house maching today, they still retain some original tools.
>>
>>30353192
Quote your sources.
Ballance bought machinery from the H&R plant but had Valley Ordnance supply raw recievers based on tooling made by Bill Lowry. Nothing from Springfield went to the newer company.
>>
Most springfield M1A pats come from Korea using all original tooling (nothign from the original USGI production run).

Dasan make the barrels, including the "match" barrels, plus the windage knobs and gas cylinders.

Shinsung Industrial Co make the M1A bolts, op rods, firing pin, extractor, and flash suppressors.

I am not sure who is currently making the cast receiver. For a while those came from canada and mexico, but someone in asia does them now.

It has been this way since at last 2003. The springfield M1A is a Korean rifle assembled in America.

This is why I got rid of a SOCOM II I had recently. We reload 308 to keep down cost. PTR, AR-10, SCAR 17 all eat handloads fine. The SOCOM, not so much, I had to buy factory shit just to shoot it. Anything but the expensive USGI mags are shit, I had a few checkmates and some (Fuck I know) Promags that had issues with locking up regularly. I got the thing for 1000 and ended up trading it for a SIG556 that runs flawlessly. I really want one that has good USGI or NM parts but fuck that price man. I do miss the M1A though, I hope I can find a good one in the future.
>>
>>30353376
How much does that affect quality?
>>
>>30353587

It shouldn't affect them too much. The use of cast vs forged parts was always the main gripe against springfields modern rifles, but properly cast parts should be good enough provided QC is maintained.

There were some complaints about bolt lugs shearing off about 10 years ago but I haven't heard of any issues lately.

They're commie plastic guns though.
>>
>>30353556
They had to mess with the gas system on the Socom.
I think a combination of the larger over m14 spec gas port to compensate for the shorter dwell time and the gas port being at the direct end of the 16inch barrel causing even less dwell time caused serious reliability issues.

I have a scout in 18" and it even cycles tula.
>>
>>30353376
This. When Springfield was sourcing receiver castings from Brazil they were actually getting them from IMBEl.
>>
So what is the recommended M1A these days? Not crazy about Springfield, and this thread confirmed by bias.

It there even a decent one for less than $2000?
>>
>>30349653
I have a USGI model from 1989. Beautiful wood, soft shooting, decently accurate and perfectly reliable with good magazines.
>>
>>30357300
James River Armory.

Every part was made and assembled with the M14 Technical Data Package in mind, Receiver is forged and all small parts are USGI spec. Barrel is very high quality and made by Criterion.

19.25 inch barrel version is the perfect medium between Socom and full size length and balances very well in the hand.

Oh shit, you already beat me to it. Well, I'm just glad someone else even knows about them. Everyone always assumes that Springfield are the only manufacturer of m14 clones.
>>
>>30360165
The only reason I didn't buy one yet is because I already have a preban M1A-A1 18" scout built with a TRW parts kit.
I leave my M1A unmolested with heavy scopes, rails and mounts and tacticool stocks.

Probably getting a Scar17s or KAC M110 next for long range scoped shooting.

LRB is pretty much a custom/expert tier shop, expect nighthawk tier prices.

At least James River found a happy medium.

I see this argument a lot. And I take it seriously, since the Chinese are indeed known for cheap manufacturing. But at the same time, I've never seen anyone complain about their Norincos. In fact, I see a lot of Norinco owners going "yeah, I guess it shoots every time, and it's accurate, and it's well enough built, but ya know it's a cheap, Chinese knockoff, never know when it'll blow up in your face." It's like the owners are just trying to find something wrong with their $700 M1As. And $600 ARs. And $300 1911s. That seem to function pretty reliably. And those prices are in CAD.

What I'm saying is, please point me to evidence that these are actually bad guns, and not the sleeper deal of the decade.
