I've had a lot of head shots with a pellet gun before... but I've never had an eye pop out of socket. Anyway... I came home from work and this little fucker was in my front yard so I promptly went and got my pellet gun and handled me bizness.

Just felt like sharing the carnage. Follow up incoming on a cheap ass .410 my dad found and had me clean up and get some shells for. I was going to use it... but I'm technically within city limits and don't wanna get b&. My neighbor does it all the time, though.

Gross. I don't hunt, but aren't you supposed to aim for the heart or something? I always see hunter targets aiming for the chest somewhere.
>>
>>30347404
what is wrong with you? do you like setting fires just to watch shit burn?
>>
I always aim for squirrels' heads with my .22 and their eyes always pop out. Fried tree rat is delicious.
>>
I've seen the same in rabbits I've shot with my air rifle. It's hydrostatic shock of the pellet inside the skull that's pop eyes out.

They look cute, but they can be destructive. They like to get into shit and tear things up, which is what they're doing... so they heard is getting thinned out. (it's open season). They multiply like rabbits so they're not going anywhere. They're rats with tails.

>>30347430
Not with a pellet gun... head shots are instant kills. They flop around for a bit but they're dead on the spot. If you go for a heart shot, you'll most likely be chasing the fucker and taking multiple shots while the fucker suffers.

>>30347443
squirrel and dumplings is pretty good too ;)
>>
>>30347430
You're thinking a deer due to their thick skulls and the fact that most animal's bodies are bigger targets than there heads. Op's just a crack shot. I personally hunt ground squirrels with .12 gauge birdshot cause I don't like aiming or shootig twice
>>
>>30347404
You better eat that, fag.

Vague bullshit rationalization is bullshit.
>>

>>30347469
Yeah I'm using a different pellet gun than I used to use... and the pellets are much different too... The pellet gun I've used to take a lot of squirrels wasn't as powerful and I only had heavier lead pellets. The pellets I used this time were light and have a little bead of copper on the front.
>>
>>30347510
Okay, faggot. You try having a large garden that co-exists with Squirrels and Groundhogs. Protip: you fuckin can't.

Not OP but they went to town in my Pygmy hickory and tore the shit out of my roof until I got rid of the tree and them. Imagine dropping rocks the size of a quarter on top your roof a few hundred times a day. Not good.
>>
>>30347510
You want a list of shit, or the most recent? They recently got into my drier duct and packed it with acorns. That shit can start a fire and/or ruin your drier. NOPE.JPG

That's all the reason I need to exterminate the motherfuckers. I don't mind them, but once they start getting too think and start tearing up my shit.... they get taken care of.

Fair enough. I guess when I was a kid my uncles always taught me when hunting to eat what you kill blah blah but this is more like pest control, similar to what they do in LA with nutria so have at it. As long as you're not killing shit just to kill it.

Well, I have a .20 cal blue streak... but finding pellets is harder, and that fucker is a beast to pump....

.177 The pellets I was using are super light and high velocity... pic related... I wanted to see what they would do. Typically I always used pointed 'hunting' pellets... but these worked out just fine.

I had 2 pit bulls (one recently died of old age at 15 years). Needless to say, no cat problems to speak of. Hell they catch squirrels every now and then. The little fuckers get a little too brave while tormenting the dogs... and end up getting snatched up. It's funny to watch them get harassed... but it's epic when they fuck up and get caught.

Squirrels are pests in your country? In Finland we have loads of squirrels and the only bad thing they do is steal bird food in the winter. I don't think anyone even hunts them in here, let alone shoot for other reasons.
>>

Abso-fucking-lutely.

You haven't lived until you've had squirrels take up residence in your attic, or almost burn your house down.

Our squirrels all live in trees and don't nest in buildings. Never have I heard of squirrels residing in man-made structures like buildings. Then again, our country is basically nothing but forest apart from city areas so perhaps they have more room to live in or something.

Literally 30,000 house fires per year. Mainly Grey Squirrels and Red Squirrels. We feed our local Fox Squirrels. They pretty much stay in the trees. We had 3 Reds show up last fall out of nowhere. Within 2 days we could heard them in the walls. And by the time we'd killed them in a week or so they filled the engine bay of my old truck with nuts and fuzzy nesty things.

There's plenty of meat on a squirrel. 4 legs, the chest and the saddle. You can probably get about a meal and a half's worth of meat of of each.

Tastes a bit like rabbit, only it is to rabbit what veal is to beef. It's also becoming very popular over in Britain because grey squirrel are an invasive species.

I've been a vegetarian for almost 40 years, so eating no squirrels. But they started pissing me off with the carnage they wreak in my garden over 20 years ago, and a few years ago the numbers just soared, so I got myself an air rifle. Problem solved. Over 50 last year. This year only 5 so far. Hardly see them around here. Buying walk a few blocks in any direction and they're bloody swarming. All it takes is one good marksman every few blocks and they can be eliminated. Bloody invasive species... fucking asshole rich bastards who imported them for their pretty tails...

It'll rip through toads like they aren't really there. I've shot a large bullfrog with a wadcutter in my admittedly more powerful Stoeger X50 and it will go in one side and out the other lengthwise. If you want to shoot toads, go for a body shot, preferably around the spine for an instant kill

Anything other than a pointed tip is so gimmicky for pellet rifles. I've shot countless squirrels with .177, .22 and .25, with A LOT of different rounds, and consequently skinned said squirrels (was practicing curing hides) and heres what I found:
>.177: Not nearly enough velocity to ever deform and mushroom out.
>Most often the pellet sits just under the hide
>Inb4 "weak airgun", it was a magnum springer, 1200fps with a 12gr pellet
>Only dropped them when hit head/heart

>.22: Decent caliber all around
>Mild deformation of domed pellets when recovered from squirrel, mild/no mushrooming from hollow point pellets
>Maybe one single instance of full penetration, but it was a light angle, like from shoulder to exiting back
>Much more reliable than .177, aka CONSISTENT
>Shot out of a benjamin marauder, 900-1100fps 20gr pellet

>.25: Absolutely drops squirrels, almost no matter where they are hit
>More often than not the round fully penetrates AND exits the body, including shoulder shots, aka through bone
>On goofy shots like leg (Yeah yeah mb) they never went further than maybe 10ft
>Shot out of a Hatsan 125, with 43gr pointed pellets. Not sure fps on this one.

It's almost like they seek them out and dig them up on purpose just to piss you off. If you have birdfeeders as well as gardens, your hatred for squirrels will go up ten-fold. If you eradicate them from your property it only takes days for new ones to show up. I swear these things breed like catholic mexicans.

I want this fucker dead, I want his family dead, I want his nest burnt to the fucking ground. I just don't give a fuck anymore.

I've taken about 15-20 rabbits with my 177. Only 1 was not a clean kill and took 2 additional hits. Mostly at about 20 yards shot right behind the shoulder. The flat wadcutter pellets have always been more accurate than the pointed pellets so I mostly used those.

Oh and I wasn't attempting to skin or anything it was just garden defense shooting. Nothing gets wasted in the woods anyway.

So far, seven weeks later, I haven't been awoken by chirping again.

Disregard 392. Get Discovery or marauder.

Pumping while shooting is dildos.
Lack of decent scope base also dildos.
Lack of sling swivels also also dildos.

They shoot OK though if you can get past the shit trigger.

So how do I use his hatred and lust for tree rat removal to get him to see guns in a positive light? Start with an air rifle, work up to a .22?
>>
>>30367391
start with youtube videos of people hunting squirrels and groundhogs with large ordinance. Let it sink in just how quick and easy those critters go down.

Let him watch it. Don't say anything about guns, just say "Hey, I thought you might like these videos"

Wait a day. A full day.

Then ask him "Hey do you remember those videos I showed you?" -- if he doesn't cut you off saying "Get yer stuff, we're going to the store" then ask him which video was his favorite.

"Could you imagine if we were shooting our squirrels with something like an AK47?" and then let it go, again, for a full day. Let his brain work it over again and again.

No bullshit bro...

In the past I mostly used a weaker gun with pointed pellets for penetration... these pellets have a much higher velocity and are flat faced... so I image the hydrostatic shock is a bit greater than what I've used before...

No need to go all mouth breather mode...
>>
>>30351590
I don't think that is true anywhere. A genetic deformity is just that. It's like shooting a 5 legged squirrel.
