Can tanks be transported across the surface of the moon?

They're spacetight, capable of taking large amounts of megatove pressure due to it's armor, tracks can deal with most moon obstacles. Just need to fit some small modifications to the engine.

Also I am trained in gullible warfare.
>>
>>30345966
Yes, they can also shoot down to blast off.
>>
>>30345966

yeah you'd just have to reverse the omnic overpressure so that you don't get bogged down in the lunar regolith. the engine could easily be adapted the lunar climate with fusion converters added in-line with the stock air cleaner.

>Can tanks be transported across the surface of the moon?
yes.
>They're spacetight, capable of taking large amounts of megatove pressure due to it's armor, tracks can deal with most moon obstacles. Just need to fit some small modifications to the engine.
not really
>Also I am trained in gullible warfare.
yes. you are a idiot.

to have tanks on Moon, you would have to transport them there.
if needed we could do it, but they would be light weight tanks.
they would have to be coated with special paint to deal with moon dust, heat and cold.
they are not airtight enough for vacuum.
every time they had to reload, they would lose atmosphere, blah, blah.
so they would have to wear some space suits inside the tank and shit. what means tethers, and life support, and air tanks for the crew.
having the crew always on suits would be stressful, but life saving, specially in case they have to ditch said tank or repair it.
engines would have to be electric.
very powerful electric engines that require powerful and large batteries.
weight wise, moon is much better suited for tanks.
Is hard to admit, but armored combat is actually less insane than having infantry running around Moon

>>30346053
Good work, Grizzly One.
>>
>>30346105
With all the weight saving in the lower gravity, it be feasible to mount a rail gun on a tank, assuming advances in the energy density of batteries or small scale power generation. The entire gun and ammo system could be kept entirely separate from the crew compartment using an autoloader and a remote controlled turret like the Armata so there's be no need to lose atmosphere while reloading or firing.
>>
>>30346105
What about vacuum welding? How do we stop that?
>>
>>30345966
They're internal combustion. You're going to need quite a bit of oxygen to run a tank, in case you didn't know, so you'd be best off having an electrically driven tank, and I don't think there's any of that are in current production/prototyping, but definitely could be built.

Tanks aren't perfectly clean micrometer sized gold wires, so I doubt you would need to worry about that.
>>
>>30346694
You would use all the energy reserve in the tank to power up the railgun. Good luck, stranded on the moon with no electricity.
>>
>>30345966
Gliders would be a much more economical lunar warmachine as they can go farther in the weak moon gravity.
>>
>>30347712
And how, exactly, would this glider work with no atmosphere?

>>30345966
No. Because pic related would get inside the tank's moving parts n fuck it sideways.
>Moon Dust: Not Even Once.
>>
>>30345966
They need to bring back laser Chaffees on the moon. Shits so cash
>>
>>30346105
Accounting for the loss of atmosphere, tanks don't have to fit the conventional designs of Earth based tanks. They would most likely be fitted with auto-loader turrets and be like the Striker, but smaller since It wouldn't have to accommodate infantry in the back.

The Mako from Mass Effect is probably the best projection of what tanks designed for low-atmosphere, low-gravity environments would look and function like.
>>
>>30347759
I think anon should have described it as a hopper or jumper. It would ascend, provide forward thrust and just ride the gravitational pull, repeat.

The real question with tanks on the moon is feeling with moon dust and Heat dissipation.

What would you need a tank on the moon for?

>Throw that bitch into a high speed but low altitude orbit around the moon
>Proceed to high speed space joust with similar foriegn craft to decide who gets lunar mining zones or some shit

There was this video I saw somewhere where they basically talked about how little buggies with missile launchers would launch quick raids, and victory would depend on who attacked who first.
It had cgi renderings of buggies missieling a dome.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I want to watch the whole thing...

Starts at 41m34s. Its called the Universe: Space War, part of The Universe series. However, this does get a lot of stuff wrong.

This is essential Space Warfare reading for any would be NASA Seal or Espatier:

Yeah that thing would be immobile before you even jumped your first crater.

>>30345966
I was going to ask if a projectile from a tank would reach lunar escape velocity and circle around to hit the tank that fired it, but sadly this is not the case.

lunar escape velocity = 2.38km/s
http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/moonfact.html

Kenetic energy penetrator round velocity = 5600ft/s = 1.706km/s
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muzzle_velocity

That said, lunar tank combat would be so fucking cool. I wish we could mod war thunder...
>>
You wouldn't have to worry about the tank getting stuck or space dust getting anywhere because it wouldn't be able to move. Internal combustion engines need air to operate.
