Dad and I found this wreck of a shotgun in the attic of his house. There's no serial number that I can find can you guys help me identify the make and model? It's a 12 gauge, possibly from the 70s. Thanks
>>
>>30334142

Looks like a Mossberg.
>>
>>30334142
Probably a Mossberg 500.
>>
>>30334142
Flat angled receiver back means Mossberg.
Aluminum triggergroup prolly means 590.
Longass barrel and fudd grip means it was a hunting model.

Go read the fuckin barrel you retard. I can see the stamping right there in the picture.

You mean the stamping that says what it's chambered for and nothing else? Thanks for the help anyway
>>
>>30334142
Where are you op? I'd be willing to buy it off you, if you're looking to sell that is.
>>
>>30334223
Closest Ive found:
https://www.gunsamerica.com/950344164/Mossberg-12-gauge-model-500A-1976-Production-Field-Gun-3-inch-26-Plain-C-Lect-Choke-Poly-Bright-Blue-Corn-Cob-Hardwood-6-Shot-50120-All-Pur.htm

cunt.
>>
>>30334248
He's in England buying storage units. He will probably end up "bin-ing" it, or turn it into authorities who will make a headline stating they found a 12GA Mortar 'weapon of war'
>>
>>30334248
ATF pls go
>>
>>30334248
I want to see if I can restore it.>>30334248
>>
>>30334258
That's not right, I have a Late 1973 Production Mossberg 500AT.

OP check the bottom right of the receiver on the side, on my '73 that's where the serial is but it's shallow as fuck
>>
>>30334359
There are no markings whatsoever on the receiver
>>
>>30334269
Do you even need to 'bin' that rifle m8?
I thought shotguns were okay in the UK. Or is it because it's a pump action and your laws still suck?
>>
>>30334142
Own the same shotgun in 16 gauge, it's a Mossberg not sure which model though
>>
>>30334423

You can own any shotgun in the UK with a shotgun license, provided it's restricted to 3 shots. With a full firearms license, you can own whatever you can find with no limit on magazine size. That includes SPAS-15s, Saigas, all sorts.
>>
>>30334142
its a mossberg or mossberg knockoff. some body destroyed the barrel.
>>
>>30334142
Does it have a tang safety?

Barrel is wrecked yes, and the stock is gone. It was shoved in the attic years ago, next to some boxes from my mom's college days. None of us knew it was there. I'm going to talk to a gunsmith tomorrow about what I can do to restore it
>>
>>30334836
Yeah.
>>
Looks like the first-generation Mossberg 500. It has only one pump arm, not two like the later ones. The trigger guard is nylon.
>>
>>30335045
The trigger guard on this one is aluminum
>>
>>30335074
Check it with a scribing tool.
>>30334171
Think of the time period.
>>
>>30334142
Pre Remington dual action bar patent expiration Mossberg 500. Before around 1970, only remshit could manufacture shotgats with dual action bars. Before 1964 guns didn't need serial #'s in burgerland, but I've never heard of a mossy without one. If you truly have a receiver without one, get rid of that shit immediately. You probably have a crime gun.

You can see where the coating has worn off, the metal underneath
>>
>>30335188
Very good then. Is the side of the bolt flat, or is there decorative etching?
>>
>>30334142
Old Mosman 500. If truly no serial number, destroy that shit b4 party v&.
>>
>>30335231
Flat, no etching
>>
>>30335314
Huh. I would start looking into other companies that sold Mossberg shotguns under a different name. It reminds me of the old Sears guns.
>>
>>30336279
its probably a pre mossberg mossberg its old enough
>>
>>30336279
That's what I did. I finally found it. It's a Western Automotive "Revelation" the pattern on the forearm matches. Made before 1968, as there's no evidence of a serial number being obliterated.
>>
>>30336426
Very nifty. I like that you are looking at restoring it.

Be sure to document the restoration process. I would like to see how it turns out for you.

>two /k/ommandos this week just found guns while I have to buy them
How many fucking chickens do I have to sacrifice to make this happen to me?
>>
>>30337213
looks like a pretty easy restore most of it seems like its in ok condition. just need to replace the barrel, magspring, and find a stock for it
>>
Mu buddy has a New Holland Sears-buy 12ga from the 60's or 50's
looks just like that, whats the bolt look like?
>>
>>30337385
That's what I am hoping. I'll keep you guys posted
>>
>>30337460
oh keep this in mind when you buy a stock. there is supposed to be washer on the bolt. without the washer the bolt protudes into the 500 hitting the safety. the gun wont work without trimming the bolt or finding a washer
>>
>>30337582
Thanks, I'll remember that
>>
>>30334142
does it have one or two action bars?
>>
>>30337993

>>30334359

It's one of the guns that Mossberg made under a different name, buttnuggets

I forget all the names they made their 500s for
>>
That is one butt ugly shotgun.
Not sure my gun hoarding borderline autistic ass would even put the time of day into that. Im sure its a decent gun or has the potential to be.
How boring it is though.
>>
>>30340277
Sure it's ugly. But I want to try and fix it up because then I can say "I did this" we all need something to be proud of, even if it's something small
>>
>>30340277
You sound like someone who thinks that everything thats not a super tacticool xbawk 375 AR15 action blaster!!!11!!!1 is a fudd gun and has no value. Please go suck off your ultra high speed low drag arfteen. Thats giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're eve old enough to own the firearm.
inb4 I'm mad
Damn right I am

>surface rust
>wrecked
>gunsmith

ok, so you're a retard...but Ill help you out

1. buy some gun oil or CLP
2. buy 100% copper wool. COPPER
3. buy roll of good paper towels

use a rag, the paper toils and an abundance of the oil/CLP and use the COPPER wool to remove all that surface rust.

buy a pistol grip and any small bits you need off ebay.

save yourself from having it sit at a gunsmith for 3 months so he can charge you 3x the gun's value to fix it into a less shitty piece of shit.

DIY
>>
>>30343009
almost forgot

use >>30336426 to find some blue prints to see what parts you need. you can probably sub any standard 590 parts if need be.

P.S. buy a dremel tool and then just custom fit w/e
