Hey, /k/, I'm looking for revolvers for a first hand gun (own about 12 rifles already) and I'm not sure which models would be relatively cheap. I love the look of Ruger's GP100 series but they seem kind of expensive. I've already decided I want one chambered in .357 Magnum, with a barrel at least 4.2", preferably 5". Any suggestions? Also looking to spend around the $400 range.

No money wasted with a GP100. They are built like tanks and will stand a diet of extremely hot loads for the rest of its life.

This. Modern Colt sucks at nearly everything they do, and everything else is a ripoff of a Colt or S&W design anyways. The GP100 is a good, solid, reliable gun.

Alrighty, GP100 it is. Where's the cheapest place to look for one of these? How adequate are they for home protection? Not the main reason I'm buying it but definitely would like to use it for that if a need arises.

I've heard if you buy Rossi you should buy new for the warranty because Taurus manufacturers some of the guns they send the states and their quality is unreliable. But that if you get one that is good they are great

I would call around to your local gun shops and compare prices.
You can buy online for cheaper but I would rather support a local guy than budsgunshop,com.

A revolver will be just as good as anything else for home defense.
Chances of you needing more than 6 shots will be slim, but if you are afraid you will need that many, then get a glock or something.
Also a .357 in a hollow point will stop any bad guy that comes your way.

Throwing in a +1 for the GP-100. I found one used at my LGS with barely any wear. Got her for $425 OTD and I love her.
