For that price point (very near to $1000), the differences between the FALs you can find easily (DSA Voyagers) and HK91 clones you can find (PTR GI et al.) pretty much pool down to aesthetics and ergos. One won't be vastly more accurate than the other, and build quality won't widely differ between the two. People can argue cast vs. stamped til the cows come home, but when it boils down to it they're both pretty good rifles (with warranties, I might add) for their price point. Also remember, a modern cast receiver is probably just as solid (if not more so) than my early 2000s IMBEL forged one.

tl;dr, buy a DSA Voyager new or find a cheaper used one if you want a decent FAL.

Forged is usually better but cast will do. If you can afford the $15,000 worth of ammo it would take to fatigue crack a quality cast receiver you can just buy a new FAL, or start a collection.

I've seen a few posts on FALfiles about their QC being somewhat hit and miss recently mostly with just the receivers but they do have a lifetime warranty if on the off-chance yours isn't 100%.

Mine had occasional issues ejecting that I was able to fix on my own (ejector block issue).

Between the two, I'd go with DSA. They're a proper company that will stand by their products. Dan Coonan is a rat bastard who will do his darndest to disavow himself from any of his receivers that have issues. In a perfect world, I'd say buy an Imbel but that's not likely to happen.

it's really not "a bitch with all the recoil from the g3 platform". I think everybody makes the recoil of .308 sound a lot more than what it really is. I've shot F/A.308 rifles and GPMG's from the shoulder and it's really not that bad. rifle is completely useless in sustained firing. only good in short bursts, BTW.

Should the grease have grit in it? That cocking tube is dirty as hell. I know they run dirty and all but it looks like it had 100 rounds fired out of it recently.

I am suspicious of that. The one on the rack was nice and worked pretty smooth. This one is not the same one. It has big dents in it and the top is dented along the charging handle guide. Pulled a bait and switch on me when they went in the back to box it up and shorted me the 5 round and 20 round mag. Im kinda pissed, so guess just nitpicking.

Anyway got this but apparently the rings arent high enough to clear the cetme rear sights. Any suggestions? Gonna take these rings back tomorrow and try to get the 5 round magazine at the very least.

You millenials really need to learn that facebook outrage doesnt mean anything. There isnt going to be any bills put forth that will go anywhere. Clinton tried that in 1994, a midterm cycle, cost the DNC both isles for a long, long time.

Sure demand kicked up because the son of presidential candidate in Afganistan was confused about his sexuality and lashed out. But historically the 4Jul sales are the best of the year. Rest assured there will be some good deals.

Alright guys, I know this probably gets asked a lot.

I have 1000 to spend on a rifle, I can go higher if needed but I'm looking at both the c308 and PTR 91 GI R. Is there any practical difference from an average shooter's perspective? I'll be fine with a 1.5 MOA rifle but with potential for lower would be great. Primarily looking for accurate enough out to 400 yards, able to feed it shit ammo, and be able to beat the fuck out of it and it can keep on trucking. From what I've read and seen, it seems like the c308 has a few problems with handguards and other minor shit. I'm leaning towards PTR 91 but saving a couple hundred bucks would be nice. Is the extra money worth it?

I swear this one ass-ugly FAL shows up more on /k/ than any other firearm

What can I say, I'm a vigorous shitposter.

Besides, it's an image board! One should never post without an image! Especially in the BR thread. I'm convinced that there are less than 15 people here that even have BRs, because I see very few rifles that aren't from off the net somewhere.

>>30346829
Hell, nothing wrong with the Voyager. It's just got a lot of aluminium parts, which might even count as a good thing since a forged steel FAL weighs upwards of 11lbs.

Do the claw mounts for PTR's lose zero easily? Or I'm guessing it matters whether you get a shitty one or not?

I'm not big on the idea of a welded rail mount because if I just want to use irons I think it looks a whole lot better but if the welded is that much better I'm willing to reconsider.

Haven't noticed mine losing zero that easily. I bought one of the railed UTG mounts for like $70. Clamps down pretty fucking tight.

Nigger I just went out to snap that with my new phone guck right off. Also, nothing wrong with the sling or scope, if I had more money I'd buy a vortex. Until then I'll stick with my 1.5 moa m15 suck a dick

Are you really recommending a x3 erector scope?
And one that costs more and has less features than a Nightforce?
>>
>>30350396
A nightforce would probably be a better choice but I don't think it would really be worth it to put on a m14. Vortex to me seems like the good middle ground.
>>30350605
It would be a good choice but truly the primary arms is doing a very good job.
>>
>>30350717
What sort of features do you demand from an optic?

Depends on the optic and its purposes.
If im looking for a scope to put on my medium contoured 6.5 Creedmoor im going to want something different than what I want a featherweight setup.

I highly prefer my adjustments in milrads. I appreciate zero stop turrets. Illuminated reticles are worth it if A. Its bright enough to be daylight visible, which is almost none, or B. you entertain the thought of using a clip on sight. I dont like ranging with reticles, but I like xmas tree reticles for long range shots, doesnt have to be full horus, G2 works.

ACOGs are fine for closer stuff
Aimpoints fine for closer still

Its a tool, you use the right tool for the job.

My HK-91 had a collapsible when I bought it, but it didn't take long for me to order a solid. I thought it was a lot more comfortable to shoot that way.
>>
>>30336677
Why I spent the extra money and bought a HK.
>>
>>30331047
DSA Voyagers are not terrible; like the WASR of the FAL world. The FAL pattern really shines in the SA58 configuration. Otherwise, buy a good build or find an FN.
PTR A3R is good to go right out of the box. Great bargain price does not reflect the accuracy (if broken in properly, read the manual) or the reliability.

Century OPAP. No canted sights. Never had any kind of FTE of FTF. Only thing I've had problems with is a loose rear sight block but I sent it back to Century and had it fixed and it's dead on now. I spent an afternoon shooting 2 liters at varying ranges to make sure.

It's at the very least 900 with the stock, hinge, and adapter plate. I've been offering cash in addition to everything in the pic. 300 rounds total as well.

I know I'll never get what I put into it. Just wish there were people with decent firearm taste locally.
