My crusader helmet is fucking giant and is hard to see out of since the weight keeps the slits beneath my eyes. I know that shoulder/torso armour would fix this, but what can I do to improvise until then?

Cut the lard and grow some muscle. Full armor is heavy as fuck, and you want it to fit comfortably while working on your stamina. Otherwise you wouldn't fit, let alone, suffocate or even pass out from exhaustion bearing that weight

Again, the problem isn't that it's heavy, it's that my head is too small. I can wear heavy armour, but I just need something to keep it level.

My helmet doesn't have that. Since the bottom of the helmet rests on my shoulders, I can't see too well. I think it's more for display than wearing.

no, it wouldnt. Knights wore a layer of cloth covered by a layer of leather, and sometimes a chainmail coif atop that, all under the helm. They are supposed to be large in order to fit all that shit and protect the wearer.

Sorry about my name calling.
There are kevlar helmet inserts that are essentially just adhesive pads. They enable a custom no-pressure-points fit. You could place them in your head armor without any modification.
Take 2 hammers and hit yourself on either side of your head at the same time.
Repeat until your head has swollen up to a size that holds the helmet up.
You may lose consciousness a few times during the process. Don't worry about it, just take up where you left off when you wake back up.
