Lets get a WWII thread going
My Great Uncle(grandfathers brother) died today at a 100 years old he would have been 101 in a week and a half. He Fought in the pacific and his brother(my grandfather) fought in Europe. My grandfather died in the 60s long before i could meet him, so my uncle was the closest thing i had to a grandpa on that side of the family. I want to honor him to day.

your grandpa was a lucky mofo in comparison to his brother.
will hoist a drink to him/them later tonight, and fuck the nips.

My grandfather had his legs shot off by a machine gun and came home in wheel chair, he had a heart attack in his sleep and died. It was attributed to PTSD.

My Uncle once told my brother how to kill a Jap, "stick him with your bayonet, and shake him back and forth with it til he stops screaming.

Grandma's cousin fought in Europe with the Charlemagne Division. He didn't make it ; ;
I figure this might be an appropriate question considering the thread. Does anyone know where I can find a set of jackboots?
This is the plane my old Gaffer flew. He still tells great stories about Athens.

My great uncle died in Germany to a landmine. Won a Silver Star for his actions as QRF at the Bulge, apparently his driver drove directly into a German foxhole, which got the Jeep stuck, and Uncle Cecil jumped out, killed 4 Germans single handedly, one in hand to hand, sustained a bayonet wound, dragged his wounded driver out, dropped a grenade in the Jeep and then dragged his driver all the way back to friendly lines.
We didn't find all this out until my grandfather died. He had an old ammo box with Cecil's citations, medals, and the telegram my great grandmother got when he died. It's really neat to have his actual citation, since so many WWII vets lost theirs in the Archive fire.
Another anecdote
>Be innaArmy
>Going to EOCA school with squad leader, go to airport to go back to our post
>Flight isnt for an hour, go sit at the bar to have our 2 beers, we're still in uniform
>Old guy comes up to us and shakes our hands, sees Squad leaders jump wings
>"You were airborne? So was I."
"Yes sir, I've got 258 jumps," squad leader kind of puffs out his chest, "how many did you make?"
>Old guy grins, pulls out his wallet that has the 82nd patch on it
"Well, I only count 2 honestly. Normandy and Holland,"
>Mfw
We bought his drinks and chatted him up for a while, he was a ball breaker. Really cool guy though.
