So do people who make wildcats have to ream their own chambers and make their own barrels from blanks?

>>30291547
Depends on what you are making entirely. Many times you can use an existing barrel, almost all the time you'll need to ream the chamber.

is it even worth reloading 45colt if I can regularly buy it at 60 cents a round?
I've come across deals at a local range, much better than the average 35 bucks a box of 50, but at 28 bucks a box of 50, its only slightly better.

How cheap can you really make this shit go? How many rounds did you blow through before you recouped your initial investment?
>>
>>30293523
nevermind, just googled it and found an easy answer. Wasn't thinking when commenting on this thread.

---------

I recently purchased powder, primers and bullets to reload 45 Colt, so these prices are current for my location. 500 250grs lead bullets @ 45; 1000 winchester primers @ 35; 1lb unique @ 18. I load 7grs, so I should get 1000 reloads from a lb.
45/500=.09
35/1000=.035
18/1000=.018
total=.143 per round X 50 =$7.15 per box

PS, two things I do not count in the cost of my reloding is the cost of the tools, and the cost of the brass.
>>
>>30293523
.452 lead bullets are cheap as dirt, cowboy loads use only 7grs on Unique, and straight walled pistol brass lasts for ever.

In short, you can get down below .20c a round easy.
>>
>>30293009
Ever just have a bath in those?
>>
>>30293009

i could use some 1.180-1.200 OAL 180 gr .40 S&W loaded to about 170 power factor.
>>
>>30293549
See if you can source lead. If you can, cast. Soooo much cheaper

How can I get into reloading cheaply?
Can I just get a press, the primers, the powder and the preshaped lead, and just press it in, and I'm done?
That is what in my mind, this cheap way entails.
What else would I need as a necessity.
I'm not planning on having more than something like 50 reloads or a bit more, to use for some fun on a weekend.
I'm guessing like, 100 on the press and I'm done for the tools? If it comes with the dies I mean.

I see you swage .224 bullets from .22lr brass. I'm the only large manufacturer using a transfer press to turn spent 22 casings into bullets. I turn out 450,000 a week, then flash copper plate them, you have no idea they are 22 casing jackets underneath. See attached pic

>>30299590

Yes; don't want to break anonymity here, but are you familiar with Limex? If you got downpayment my US reman plant can run you 2 million at around $.099 to $.129 a cartridge for brass cased depending on type.
>>
>>30301487
>how can I get into reloading cheaply?
You don't. You can reload cheaply, but you won't "get in to it" on that shit-tier equipment. A good reloading setup is $300 minimum in tools.
>can I just get a press, the primers, the powder and the bullet, and just press it in, and I'm done?
No. You need the dies to make the case return to spec, the powder measure to make sure you don't blow your hands off, and at the very least a digital caliper to make sure everything's the right dimension.

If you wanna go full poorfag, Lee O-frame press is like $70 on Amazon. Lee dies run about $30 a set, they work but are kinda shitty compared to everyone else's (which run $35-55 for normal non-benchrest dies). The cheapest digital scale I trust is around $50, and is cheaper than even the shittiest balance-beam scale. A set of digital calipers through Harbor Freight is like $9. Frankford Arsenal vibratory tumbler is like $40, a couple pounds of lizard litter from Petsmart is like $5 and will last thousands of pieces of brass.
>add bullets, primers, and powder and that's what you need for straight-walled calibers
>if you want to do bottlenecked calibers you need to also trim the brass, which entails a brass trimming tool ($20-$360) and an inside/outside chamfer tool (Lyman makes a good one for like $12 that will also ream the primer crimp out of military brass)
>>

Its made from borrowed Norinco M305 tooling, but keeping mil-spec on key parts.
OEM ammo prices for container loads/millions are typically that low since we compete with the Chinese and Russians. Federal, Remington can't touch those price points even though they are US manufacturers like my plants.

>>30302014
Its MOA and no copper fouling more than usual, its just a .0005 copper flash, so its the 22 brass casing that engages the rifling.

>>30302680
Brother see picture attached, 4 years ago I had 8 workers at minimum wage doing it by hand before I got into the transfer press game. We now put more out in an hour now than we did in a week.

Whats your hourly shop rate? I pay my CNC guys $10 to $14 an hour, so probably can't justify it. 7 axis operator makes $24.

Last few posts before I get going.

Ya I see what you're asking. Its amazing how some of their buyers blow our reps off and then buy our product from some douche marking it up 50%.

>>30303807
Welcome to America 2016. We undercut the Chinese, so its either keep our pay/overhead down, or automate everything and have no workers.

>>30303820
I own 30% of tone he largest factories there; and make shotguns for Tri-Star, EAA, etc.
And I also have a company that imports in the US, so yes.

>>30303876
50 BMG will require a larger forging for the frame, so probably 2 years after the standard calibers are a success.
I'm the largest commercial manufacturer of 50 BMG(not largest military, ATK wins that) in the USA. And the lowest cost manufacturer too. See attached.

Whats the best way to get into personal jacketed bthp manufacturing?

I wouldnt want to sell in mass, but it would be nice to develop different bthps and be able to produce them in large lots without spending days on end to manfacture. I understand the concept of pay to play, however 30 grand for 1 machine isnt exactly feasable for someone that wants to just crank out 5k bullets to reload with.
>>
>>30303963
Any plans to bring in the Adler? would be neat to have a lever shotgun but I'm guessing the reason I don't see anything is because it wouldn't be profitable to import them here.

Ok guys last post before I go. I may check this thread tomorrow, probably not and be back on /B.

>>30303967
Matters on quantity. Get a corbins swage press, either manual or hydro. Buy bullet jackets from whomever, buy lead wire, cut your cores, order your dies from CH4D or Corbins, and there you go.
Probably $2k to $5k invested. Your bullets will be less than dealer price on Sierra/Hornady if you value your labor at $0 an hour.

>>30304014
I produce those parts and have my own lever action, see above post.

You won't believe how lazy/retarded some buyers are. Also sometimes our OEM customers are so tight with the buyers that they would just rather buy it more expensive from our customers.

>>
>>30304668
how do you clean up spilled powder and how did you do the bench engraving?
>>
I don't get it.

How do we not know where that guy works yet?

He posted a picture of crates of soviet sniper rifles a while ago, saying that they were being destroyed

There can't be that many arms companies doing all of that, right?
>>
>>30304765
when I run my dillon, every 500 rounds or so I might get a few tenths of a grain of pistol powder spread around. usually I just sweep it up and get rid of it in tiny amounts, if I have a larger spill that I think will be contaminated in some way I usually wipe it up put it in some kind of container and neutralize it with some sort of oil to throw it away.

the engraving I didn't do. the bench is made by American Workbench (same one as the picture I responded to in that post). Great company and the benches are solid as fuck. this one is around 300 pounds. front bottom engraving is just my name, on the top it's Tench Coxe

"Their swords, and every other terrible implement of the solider, are the birthright of an American"

Remember, due to the large amounts of nitrogen in smokeless propellant, it makes an excellent fertilizer.

Don't throw away your spill, put it on your flowers.
>>
>>30304638
For your basic bitch surplus AP or ball ammo you can't compete but you could easily undercut other manufactures with soft tips or BHTP.

>>30304832
I have it narrowed down to maybe there companies but it's entirely possible he's giving conflicting info/ exaggerating his volume to preserve opsec. He definitely is the real deal to an extent, just don't know what.
>>
>>30304832
I'm 90% sure I know who he is given all the details he has and I think he knows. For someone who stresses anonymity he drops a lot of hints so I think he's mostly doing so as a wink and a nod.

wow, I think this is the first all lyman bench ive seen in a very long time. Hope nothing ever breaks for you. I hear their customer service is absolutely terrible compared to every other reloading company which all have stellar customer service. I own a lyman impact puller hammer and thats it.

I use a lot of lee but also rcbs, dillon and hornady gear. Rcbs is fucking awesome in terms of customer service
>>
I would reload.... But unless I can get lead for free or for cheap it wouldn't make sense for me

Where do you all get your scrap lead? What sorts of things on Craigslist might have a lot of lead in them or whathaveyou?
>>
>>30293009
Are those all copper plated or fmj? pic isnt super clear but dont see any exposed lead bases. If they are plated, how do they shoot? Im pretty jelly regardless. all I have is about 1,750 pounds of lead ingots and bullet molds for everything I load. The lee 230gr 300blk bullet does me well with a layer of powdercoat.
>>

Sure anon. Your arm.
>>
>>30293549
Yup, if you treat your brass well, it will last a very very long time in lower pressure straight walled cartridges. There is some documented experiment out there where a guy loaded the same handful of 38 cases until they started cracking. I forget the exact number but it was over a hundred reloads. I wanna say 132-134 reloads. Its been over 3 years since i cracked a pistol case and I shoot about 10k rds a year.

>>30293523
Check out missouri cast bullets. Try out their coated bullets for only little more than traditional lubed bullets. You can drive em as fast as a jacketed bullet and they wont leave a spec of lead in your barrel.
>>
>>30295876
What lube do you use for your operation?

This is my biigest problem. Stuck cases.
>>
>>30293552
Cast your own bullets with free range scrap or scrounged lead and get it down to about 5 cents a round. I have my 500 magnum loads down to 18 cents a round. Factory goes for about $3 a round.
>>
>>30303044
Do you manufacture any esoteric bullet types? I'm talking about incendiary and explosive-spotter/tracer bullets? Do you produce any AP in house? Seeing as you make your own bullets wholesale out of .22 casings, how hard would it be for you to get cheap Chinese tungsten penetrators and put them in your own jackets?

I like using aa1680 for subs and w296 or lilgun for supers. W296 works fine for subs as well, functions 100% in my 10" ar pistol. pistol length gas system. I just love the fact that my favorite magnum revolvers (357, 44, and 500SW) share the same powders as my 300blk.
>>
>>30305101
made a few good connections over armslist these past couple years. I have gotten about 2,000 pounds of clean lead for the cost of two $14 propane tank refills and some of my time. One guy brought me 300 pounds of soft lead from a dentist office's xray room. Peeled off the back of lead lined drywall panels. I traded him back 15% of the total lead weight in ready to load bullets. We were both happy.

Another connect I made worked at a tire shop about three hours north of me. He has a deal with the guy that goes to all the areas chain stores to "safely collect their hazardous lead weights". Basically he gets his store's lead along with the other 15 stores in the region. I on a few occasions have traded him loaded ammo for wheel weights. usually 1-1.3 rounds per pound of mixed wheel weights. so basically 4-5 cents per pound of mixed weights. Had a pretty steady rate of 68% lead yeild. so something like 8 cents per pound of lead.

Word of mouth is powerful. If you know anyone in the roofing, plumbing, auto, dental or construction industry, let them know that you are always looking for lead. Shortly after moving into my new house 4 years ago I got to talking to my neighbor, we started showing off all our different guns. Of course the subject of reloading came up. He always intend to but never had the time. told me he had some weights in the garage. Bam, 200lb of all lead weights. big ones too, 6 ouncers!

Just get the word out there.

Another way for you to cast cheap would be to create some sort of bullet trap to catch all of your lead. I've always wanted to do that and I told myself that once lead starts getting difficult to find and I get down to 500lb of lead, that will be my new safety net. Pretty neat how you can reuse the same bullet over again indefinitely.
>>
>>30295876

If you mean manufacturing cases and bullets from raw stock it will require a shit ton.

For just reloading it's mainly waiting on shit to come in the mail and bolting the press down.
