It's a Beretta 92FS, military designation is M9. This particular one is probably a toy or a demo piece. Hammer is cocked but safety/decocker is in the down position, so the hammer should be down. Guide rod is polished too. Rear sight is missing, I dunno how the fuck you do that accidentally, I work for beretta and they're pressed in pretty well. In fallujah the majority of kills by USMC were done using pistols. They are the ultimate CQB weapon. Also most of delta force's kills are done using 1911s.

The bore of a rifle never really needs to be cleaned if you are just shooting it, it's self cleaning. It's more the action that will be your problem area. A good AR will shoot the barrel smooth before it will stop working from lack of cleaning. Dat dere chrome lining mofukkah.

1) It isn't going to be used by 99.9% of infantry. The rifle is the issued weapon of most soldiers. They are supposed to use their issued weapon.

Then your teammates will suppress the enemy or kill the enemy while you get your shit straight. Your back-up weapon is the other guys in your squad.
2) It's a separate logistical headache. Ammo issue isn't "Here's a big pile of ammo, go nuts men!!" It's all carefully accounted for. Which means you need to sign it out, account for it, turn it in. It's just easier to sign for fewer types of ammo.
Plus, you would be SHOCKED at the number of dipshits who lose sensitive equipment. Optics, NVDs, everything. There's a reason every damn SOP makes anyone issued a pistol keep it on a retard leash.
3) Training. You have to get qualified on every weapon that you will use. This is just a headache. It takes MONTHS of planning and paperwork and trading calendars and meetings and blah blah blah blah blah to run a range. It's a goddamn nightmare. Then if you do a range for the whole company or whatever it takes literally all day, to get it done. You need to ensure everyone qualifies, you need to sign out ammo, you need to dispatch trucks, get medics. It's a massive hassle, it's just easier for most units to just train most of their guys on rifles. Rifles are actually useful. They kill guys at 400 meters and 1 meter.

Germans are one of the few militaries who viewed pistols as legit weapons.
Personally I think all American soldiers should be issed at least a glock 19 or similar sized compact pistol and at least one extra mag as a last stand weapon. When deployed...maybe something even smaller or slimmer? Maybe bring back single stack 9mm for grunt pistols?
