Because good ideas rarely get adopted if they're different enough from the norm.
It's why nobody picked up the first shotgun to do this, the Winter Consortium SWATriplex-18.
Which, rather amusingly for the first of its kind, where the later ones seemed to have issues, was apparently crazy reliable.

If you don't plan on shooting crazy high round counts, the Turkish imports are decent autoloaders. Mossberg retails the SA-20, and a TriStar Raptor is under $350.

Honestly, it is more the tacticool market nature of bullpup shotguns and the preference for higher capacities.
