Ask questions, get advice from retards on how to lie on the poly, bitch about recruiters, accuse each other of stolen valor, just keep it in this general.

Going to see a Navy recruiter tomorrow, he told me to bring some questions with me. What exactly should I be asking him about that I cant't find on the internet?
>>
I have the opportunity to join the NZDF, but I can also get my Australian citizenship and join the ADF, which would be a better option ?

Yeah, I'd love to be a CTN or a CTT or IT, basically anything with computers. Also the recruiter sounded really... young? And kind of inexperienced or something? I don't know, just the way he spoke seemed off. Should I be careful?

Why

Redpill me on 19K
>>
>>30200982
>Also the recruiter sounded really... young?
Well technically if you joined at 18 you could be recruiting around 23-24 so he could be young and just arrived to recruiting tahts all.
>Should I be careful?
Absolutely but thats whith literally any recruiter. realize they arent your friends they have a job to do. remember that.
>CTN or a CTT or IT, basically anything with computers.
All excellent jobs. If you have to asvab and meet all the qualifications for a clearance than have at it.CTR is also a great rate.
>>
>>30201019
Cause they suck ass, they hype them up but its all propaganda. Yuu will just stand around checking IDs and thats all. Its so boring and mind numbing you will want to blow your brain out. Plus for MAs in the navy advancement is terrible from what i remember so that sucks as well.
>>
>>30201052
When will I take the practice ASVAB? The first time I meet him?
>>
>>30201125
>The first time I meet him?
I did it that way, but not necessarily. Are you smart? In all seriousness if you are an idiot you should study i suppose before hand. I walked in and took it and i didnt even know what it was and got a 95. If you arent confident then delay a little and study up cause if you score low hes going to dismiss you whenh you say you want CTN.

I don't THINK I'm an idiot, but I guess we'll see. I know it's percentile-based so I hope my competition isn't too harsh.

In general all boot camp is lots of body weight exercises and lots of running. Get good at that and youll be fine. If you are doing some extreme Job/rate/MOS than obviously you need to do more but if you are a basic bitch than this is all you need.

What is it? And in that case why join at all? But if your heart is set on reserves than definitely go for it but you should consider going active at least for 4 years than going reserves after.
>>30203686
Well im saying if you want to be a SEAL or SF or PJ or something you will most likely have to do more in addition to that. I knew a few hard core guys and they did body weight stuff like that but on alternate days did powerlifting style heavy workouts. Compounds like squats deads bench and what not plus heavy ruck marches aint a bad idea either. Also if you are doing something like seals than you would need to work lots of swimming into there as well.
>>
>>30203750

Posting this for a /k/omrade of mine since he's a bitchboi:

my buddy whose been in living the country for a few years is looking to become a citizen through the Mavni program. He's freaking out because he smoked weed like 2 or 3 times. He knows enough to know that he should probably lie in MEPs but he's worried about his background investigation.

anyone here know whether he'd be fine lying or should he just come clean about it? He says the background is basically like a TS clearance investigation and worries that lying in MEPs will come back to bite him.

Most of your time will be doing maintenance and enjoying peace time barracks life somewhere very hot or very Korean.

The rest of your time will be in a nearly all powerful death machine working with a team of 3 others to bring about direct, mobile, protected firepower on the cowering heads of targets.

From what I have heard, to many that latter part is worth the former. Also Master Gunner.
>>
>>30204627
Screw it, the guy he's talking about is me...

I am legitimately paranoid about posting stuff about it not because I did anything wrong (other than pot, still hate the fat fucker who talked me into it the first time), but rather they assumed I did something wrong and i'm going to catch hell for it...

>>
Going to AF recruiter tomorrow. I have a list of jobs i'd like to do. Anything i should do? Are slacks and a button up appropriate?
>>
>>30204809
I haven't smoked in like 10 months - 1 year and the only reason I smoked the last time was because I was at a party and drunk...

And before that I the other 2 times I smoked were a year - 1.5 years in between...

No I was never caught for it... Out of the 5 people who know, 2 aren't going to say shit, 1 has fucked off and I don't know where he went, 1 is still in the same town I lived but realistically the people I am listing don't know he exists, and the last one died in a car crash...

I have no qualms about lying at meps, I am aware of the meps fuck-fuck games...

What I am concerned of is the investigation following swearing/enlistment... MAVNI's undergo a TS investigation not for a clearance but rather as a vouch for loyalty and moral character... And is it isn't recommended to lie during this type of investigation because they actually send CIAguy types to talk to the people you list in your form...

Honestly from everyone that have taken them they said the investigators wouldn't care if you smoked pot (people have gotten clearances even after doing worse) but rather if you were honest or not with them...

At this point i am worried whether or not lying at meps is going to be an issue if I'm going to be honest with them, especially since DoD is going to the one adjudicating it...
>>

would it be bad to let him know im still thinking about the navy but wanted to see my options? i really do like the muhreens but i dunno what my chances are of getting in

Is quiting smoking weed for a year enough to tell them no if they ask?

>>
>>30205141
>implying the military won't be stressful
>implying you won't go back to being a pothead and get kicked out
>>
>>30205157
Nah, this was more due to family and feeling of being useless. I'm good now and have things fix with the family. Since the start of the year I've been working out more and smoking less.
>>
doesnt effect me, but whats up with all the paranoia about "what if I smoked weed like 5 years ago"?

As long as you don't have it in your system when you enlist, or dont have any police/work/school record related to drug offenses, how the fuck is anyone, including the CIA, going to know whether you smoked pot or not a year ago? Maybe I'm missing something, but unless your parents/references are total retards how would the gov/mil find that out?

Its not a lie if they can't prove it. Tokin up is one thing, a possession charge you can kiss that ts goodbye unless you can suck some serious dick and get a waiver.

There's a reason most people with top secret are computer nerds, intel, etc. They never fucked around with that stuff like everyone else did.

I'm an E5 in the navy and when summer time comes around and reservist come everyone in my command talks shit. They come here for two weeks, retrain on shit they've drilled on multiple times before, suck ass at it, break our vehicles, and leave after the two weeks just to forget everything they've learned.

Can't speak for the other branches but for the navy,

Reservist are a waste
Reservist are a mess

Reservists try to play it as

When the reality is:

>I work at a grocery store and can't get laid. Going active duty would be a huge pay bump. 95% of my time in uniform is spent keeping up with mandatory PowerPoint training.

Reservists don't spend their little bits of military time doing cool military shit, it's 100% packed with three mandatory bullshit training that active guys spread out throughout the year. Reservists still have to do it all, but they have to do it all at once.

IDF or FFL? help me /k/omrades I got a year and a half delay for my draft(I'm from kikestan) and the thought of joining the FFL and finally doing something with my life, and making something worthwhile out of myself doesn't leave my mind. The big question is it really worth it or I just bought into the memes about the legion being a great place to burry my past in the ground and get out of it as a new man with all the fat burnt off of my soul?
>>
>>30207678
Despite the romanticized image of the legion being a place that accepts all the dregs of society who want a new start, it is actually very difficult to get in. The selection process leaves around 7/8 of applicants rejected. Theyre spoiled for choice, and they know that 1st world guys looking for "adventure" are by far the most likely to desert when they realize life in the FFL isn't the rugged coolguy experience they expected.

So if you're going to join, make sure you're the best possible candidate they could desire, cause theres a whole lot of africans/asians who have literally no other option and are higher on the Legion's list than you.

As much as I politically disagree with Israel and the actions of the IDF, nobody can deny that its a formidable military organization, and you will probably find what youre looking for there just as much as the FFL, without the need to sign a 5yr contract that leaves deserting as the only option if you get tired of rearranging rocks outside your barracks.

The mad as fuck at reservists meme...

I was in those shoes before. Pretending like the personal life of a reservist is terrible makes you feel better about being active right out of high school and wasting the first 4-8 years of your adult life sitting around doing retard work, not being able to go to college full time due to working 14 hours a day.

In a couple years when you aren't main-lining the kool aid you'll be talking about how you should have done the reserves. Being active definitely helps you if you were lazy in high school and have no direction in life, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have any other prospects to follow.

So, just curious and I figure this is the place to ask, who actually makes the tactical decisions at a higher level?

As in, 'Alright so Russia has invaded Poland. We need to move this batalion here to cut off their supply, move this division here to defend Warsaw...'

All that stuff. Who actual comes up with that?

Also, everyone talk about MOSes from the enlisted and junior officer side. What about higher ranking officers? Would Stanley McChrystal still be a, 11A or whatever?

The answer to the second one is that commanders/OICs/whatever have different MOS designations from the same field. Kind of a stupid question too, but I can see that being confusing for someone who has never served.

Anyone know much about being a 91E in the army? Seems like I could get in as an E-4 through the Army Civilian Aquired Skills Program, since I just graduated from a machining program with an Associate's.
>>
>>30209396

Brutal. I had to wait like 15 months, but I was still in high school.

My advice would be to take classes at a community college. If you're in a non-retard mos it will be extremely difficult to get your brain back into learning mode after sitting around for that long... it would suck to rock out and get stuck as an admin guy or something.
>>
>>30210362
Going along with this, the USMC might be the worst about this among the branches, but with 12 or 15 credit hours they'll start you out at E-2. They don't go higher like every other branch, but it's something.
>>
>>30208902

I don't really have any reason to be bitter as active duty, anon. I make solid money (75k range), have great job security, and even get to do my job every so often.

Fact is, I'm 26 and most households in America make less than I do on my own. Odds are whatever civilian job I could get wouldn't shell out that kind of money since I don't have my degree yet.

Of all of the reservists I went to training with, maybe two are actually doing better than I am. Most are still entry-level in their careers after going to college, and a large minority are kicking around dead-end jobs because they never went to college.
>>
>>30210064

Don't know anything about 91E specifically, but even if the ACASP thing falls through you can come in as an E3 in any job for having your Associate's.
>>
>>30209016

They're called "General" officers for a reason. Once you get to the O7+ ranks, you don't belong to a basic branch anymore, you become a general(ist) officer.

Officers at that level are essentially CEOs, they're so far away from any hands-on work that it doesn't make sense to classify them as belonging to a specific job field.
>>
what are the curves like on the ASVAB

any idea of an estimation of how many questions I can miss and still get a high percentile score?

i don't want to fuck up on some math problem or get some weird word definition
>>
>>30210871

Gonna have to call bullshit unless you can break down the math for me. Since you're not an officer and you're only 26, so you're probably an e6 unless you're a shitbag, you'd have to be either in san francisco or new your to come anywhere close to $70000.

If that is the case then making slightly more than the median income but living in areas of the US that have the highest cost of living out of the nation is nothing to be bragging about.
>>
>>30211148
> you'd have to be either in san francisco or new your to come anywhere close to $70000.

Not really. 3.3k base pay puts me right at 40k base. Add in $350/mo special pay, I'm at around 44k. Add in another $360~ a month and I'm at around 48k. I'm not in an extremely expensive area, I get 1500/mo in BAH, that's 18k/yr. Total yearly in paychecks: a hair under $67,000, in an area where the median income is far below that.

But oh wait, Uncle Sam thinks I only make around $44,000 minus my retirement contributions, so I get taxed way less than any of the civvies around here making what I do. Plus I have burnt my entire TA almost every year I've been in (should have my BA next year) for around $4k more untaxed benefits. I also get no-cost healthcare for me and the wife.
Bottom line?

I'd be taking a pay cut if I went and worked a civilian job around here for anything less than $85k~, easily. National median wage for a household is around 51k.

If I was in San Francisco I'd be pulling north of $4k BAH. That would be $30,000 more. I'd easily be breaking six figures after everything (and I'd have to, if I wanted to live in the Bay area).
>>
>>30211510

Whoops, forgot to point out that the second $360/mo is BAS.

This is also not counting re-up bonuses. They're definitely available in my job field, but I don't think that's really fair to lump into the overall equation.
>>
>>30211510

K, figured that there was no way you were at 75k.

I also don't count ta since dod civs and acqdemos rate it as well. I also got reimbursement at around $5000 when I worked for small private companies so i consider it moot since it is practically a given these days.
>>
>>30211574

Tax advantage is worth about $4k on its own, even if you value all of the not-on-paycheck benefits (education, healthcare, etc) at $0.
>>

Oh, so you aren't actually a linguist? You're a student in sunny Monterrey California?

Want to know a secret? Initial job training sucks regardless of job/branch. The difference is you're in fucking Cali, in a job field with a *much* more favorable male/female ratio than most. Linguist students study in a comfortable classroom all week, and then get drunk and fuck eachother all weekend. Yes, life is hard amongst the legions of 18-23 year old girls who spend all week pent up and frustrated, truly you have my sympathy.

Every other training course? You're sweating your balls off and getting shit on all day, then restricted to the barracks for most of the course.

Circlejerk all you want with your roommates about how hard life is, but you probably won't ever really appreciate how awesome Monterrey is until you're long gone.

Most of the rest of the military could not give any less fucks about how hard you think DLI is, and would trade places with you in a second.

Yeah, aircraft armament systems was kinda the same. You spent all week taking apart bombs and putting them back together, and by the weekend you'd have the females knocking on the doors of the guys they thought were cute and fucking them.

The dorms were a fuckhouse. Each girl had like, a type, you know? So I probably burnt through over a dozen women while I was there, same with a few other guys. The tinier, more manet guys didn't get so lucky but they still got plenty.

The 5900 field is brutal. You work long hours and half of the people there are knob gobblers who will hide from their responsibilities so you do their share of the work as well.

0651s all seem to be manlets. Also, their school doesn't teach by any internationally recognized standard like the air force comm schools do so they can't sit for any certs at the end of it.

Honestly it is a case of picking your poison. I was a 5942 and the mos got me a decent job that I made a good amount of money on during college. The Marine Corps in general kinda sucks, I wouldn't recommend it if your aspirations are purely to advance your civilian goals.

>>
>>30213945
Not really, but I'll take a look and see if anything catches my eye.
>>
>>30214319

Depends on your unit. Mine you pretty much just ask at least 2 weeks out and get it approved. Some units you can only take leave during certain times of the year.

You get 30 days of leave per year. Unlike civilian time off, they'll count weekends unless you sign back in and start a new period of leave.
>>
>>30214319

You get 2.5 days per month. If something important is happening around the time you want to go on leave, it will get denied.

Generally, for most retard jobs they allow leave at any time since anyone can step in and do any other person's job.

>I haven't smoked in like 10 months - 1 year and the only reason I smoked the last time was because I was at a party and drunk...

Holy fuck you are paranoid.

Up until 1.5 months before I went to MEPS I smoked nearly every single fucking day, didn't work out very much and didn't flush my system. I passed the drug test though I have to admit I was sweating the entire time out of fear.

Help me decide /k/

11B, 68W or 19K.

Here are the reasons they are all equal in my book

>11B

Classic, good chance for advancement, qualified for the Rangers with this MOS, get to be an actual soldier

>68W

Good training, Qualified for Rangers, Still get to run around with the Infantry, much needed and respected MOS. The only downside is that I am not at all a very compassionate or caring person. I have virtually no bed side manner, though I'm sure it would be a lot different if it was my brothers in arms

>19K

Because Abrams are fucking awesome. No chance for advancement, No chance in hell to be a Ranger but... Abrams are fucking awesome.

They are equal and I can't choose. Got an 85 on my ASVAB for the record so none of these are a problem to acquire.
>>
>>30215866
she'll definitely use the military for "peace keeping" in valuable countries
>>
>>30217289
Disregard 11B, unless watering rocks and mopping rain includes actual soldiering. These are not memes, you will be dealing with slightly less bullshit than MP's and SecFor, but only by a little.
>>
>>30217735

They do do training, and it is still pipeline for rangers and whatnot.
>>
>>30217289

The amount of shit you don't know, but think you know had given me an erection.

Anybody have any experience with getting mental waivers or broaching that subject with recruiters?

Context is I was misdiagnosed for severe depression, and I'm wondering if other than re seeing a mental health professional to get myself cleared up there's any other way to cover my ass. I'm going for something requiring a TS so no "what medical records" for me.
>>
>>30217743
>pipeline
It not a "pipeline" at all. You can try out sure but a pipeline implys you have to do it.
>>30217768
Ignorance is truly bliss
>>
>>30217768
I only know what I've been told and read on army forums. Duh.

If I was a soldier and knew this shit already then why would I be asking? I hope you aren't in the army because you sound too retarded to even wash a uniform.
>>
>>30215883
>not much confidence =depression and you shouldn't join
MEPS detected, but really, that's a pretty harsh assessment based on a vague comment.
>>
>>30216934

I would think that 90% of people spend their time in an echo chamber of whichever side they identify with.

Also...

>expecting a thread full of ~16 year old high school kids and ~19 year old military kool aid chuggers to be intelligent

I recently got a job on an air force base.

Is it just me or do air force guys have a massive inferiority complex when it comes to absolutely everything?

Dealing with people from other branches, civilian priors from other branches, civilian counterparts... it seems like they are always trying to talk down everything.
>>
>>30217883
>says he has dead end job and is going nowhere in life.

I can't think of too many people that are happy about that.

>going nowhere
This kills the confidence, without self esteem, one tends to get a little depressed. It's simple deductive reasoning.
>>
Heya, /k/. Just got my first set of orders. Any fellow squids been to the USS Abe Lincon in the past year or so? How is it? Does Norfolk suck as bad as everyone says? Do carriers suck as bas as some people say?

Rate? My lpo im sitting right in front of right now wife was on that ship. He said it was actually pretty nice unless you were in engineering or in the deck department.

The quintessential Marine.

I have a couple Air Force questions.

-Can you write letters at BMT to other countries?

-When do you move out of the dorms and get BAH? I've heard SrA and Staff, but I'm not sure

-What are the best Open categories to put down if I want a cushy job? I'm thinking Admin and Electrical
>>
>>30218494
what about for nuke officers?
>>
>19
>studying electrical engineering
>don't know what to do with the degree when I graduate
>dad recommends joining the Navy
I now have an interest in doing so, but I don't know what kind of work is expected of an electrical engineer in the Navy.

I'm going to my Marine recruiter this Saturday and I'm gonna start with paperwork

I'm in pretty good shape ( in terms of strength, weight, etc ) but I have NEVER been good at running. Fuck I think I have a 10 minute mile at best. I think it's from years of lifting but I never did any sort of real endurance exercises.

I know I have about half a year before I ship so I need to start running. What do you guys recommend? Daily running? How long? ETC ETC ETC. I'm practically clueless.

My friend (a qt3.14) went to boot camp yesterday to be a navy MP. How fucked is she?
>>
>>30219825
Probably by every guy in her group. So, very adequately fucked, I'd wager.
>>
>>30219825
Post a pic of her. Depending on that she may fend off thirsty fucks left and right in texas while she's trying to get rated.

Fucking motarded little shithead wants to show off his National Defense medal. Should I do it? Have any of you guys worn your blues to a wedding?

>>30219888
She's a navy 8/10 l. Expect her to be pregnate within two months of her permanate duty station.

Mostly shitty records keeping
>>
>>30219907
Icing on the cake is she's joining the navy to follow her dbag boyfriend
>>
>>30219901
just seems like a shitbag move to do, its not their wedding its the groom and brides. unless its a mil wedding then whatever
>>
>>30219901

Are you ashamed of being a Marine? Are you out and wanting to put it behind you?

These are questions that you should be asking yourself, not 4chan faggotanon.
>>
>>30219818
Just run and do sprints.

I was pretty good at running naturally, but Google will give you all kinds of guides
>>
>>30219888

Yep... she is going to have like ten dudes knocking on her door every night.

Advise her to not go out with groups of guys and to never be alone. There are a shitload of manchild spergs in the military and she will definitely get raped if one of them catches her in a vulnerable position.

Also, condoms. Because a male sperg trying to lock down a woman with a baby is also a thing.
>>
>>30219818
Check the FAQ.

Also keep your steps at 180/min
>>
>>30219818

Unless you've got supreme diet discipline then I'd switch over to only body weight exercises if I were you, doubly so if you're over six feet tall.

Unless you can run decently then you're seen as a piece of shit in the Marine Corps. It doesn't matter how good you are at your job, or most of the time even your rifle score - if you can't keep up in formation runs then you will never get put up on a promotion board.
>>
>>30220195
That was my thinking, too.

>>30220272
Not Marine, still in. We're both in the wedding party, it just seems idiotic for us to be in uniform.
>>
>>30219825
She's fucked, just now literally fucked as opposed to figuratively fucked by her horrendous career choice.
