I am concerned about my life experience and work experience for a dept that always mentions the two.

I'm 24 y/o. About to get my bachelors and associates in arabic. I have only been working at a retail place (housing shit, making mirrors, frames, installations) for 2 years and the store just closed down. That is all the work exp. i have and is that fine? I have traveled the world, been to afghanistan for a couple of months just to backpack in the capitol. Is life experience considered what you have done until now or just about your age?

im 24 y/o

Thanks for what you guys do.

I have a couple of questions. My first one is have you ever dealt with a Sovereign Citizen? What is that like?

I saw this training video today and I can only imagine how much it must suck to deal with these people. Some of them are definitely domestic terrorists the others are annoying and contrarian.

For those of you that don't know about the sovereign citizens movement, the following video has lots of information.

>>
>>30192417
Not OP but I have on 2 separate occasions, 1 for an OWI and one for a warrant arrest. Most make their own forms of ID and are almost always armed.
OWI guy:
>left and right over center
>turn red and blues on, slams on his brakes in the middle of the road
>lol okay I guess we're stopping here
>go to window, he only has it cracked and has his "Passport" taped to his window
>does not say a word, even as I ask him to exit the vehicle due to smelling alcohol
>get more squads there, tell him that we will smash window to remove him from the vehicle
>doesn't respond
>extend baton
>throws open door and steps out screaming "YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT OR THE PRIVALAGE TO DETAIN ME"
>tazed, falls down, gets put into cuffs after rolling around on the ground with me and 4 other officers
>Glock 30 in his coat pocket with a full mag but nothing in the pipe.
>passport has his real info on it, comes back with 5 prior OWI
>screams "YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT OR PRIVALAGE TO DETAIN ME" for the next 3 hours for the blood warrant and force blood draw
>taken to county in restraint chair

The other guy was just a shit ton of OAR tickets that he didn't pay because he didn't believe traffic laws applied to him because he was not a resident of this country. Carried a Hi Point in 380 and was very passive but you could tell he was new at it because he fumbled with his law enforcement contact script.
They are very unpredictable and will almost always resist. The real hardcore ones live in the woods and rarely are seen in public. You will know these ones because they will completely ignore you, open carry, be mentally ill, and square up with you if you have contact with them. Do not take lightly, they always think they are right and nothing you say or do will change that, have at least 2 other officers with you.

>>
>>30192831
And the bullets are either dirty as fuck or don't match at all. One guy had steel, aluminum, and brass all in one glawk fowtay mag. If I ever find a gun with hollow points, it's usually budget UMC stuff. The music and media love to glorify how much money these hood rats make in the game, they are broke as fuck and when they finally get the gun they ask all their friends for a few boolets.

im debating if I should join my city police or go state police

I dont live in the city so id have to move their for a year, and id be stuck within the city limits where as state I can go anywhere. Plus it seems like the city cops are the ones that usually get caught up in beatings and shootings more often then state troopers because theyre in the hear of the city.
But its harder to get into state, id be by myself on the highway and I feel like theres more wiggle room to move around in a bigger city dep.

what are you thoughts on state vs city? And who do you think has better training? Id really like to get into investigations as well

It sucks because we carry them and use them all the time on idiots who cut and shoot themselves but don't get a new one from our department if we use it and need another.

>>
associate's degree vs. bachelor's for becoming a cop? Also should add that both degrees include a police academy that certifies me
>>
>>30193838
Depends on what you want for your future. If you are happy being on patrol for the rest of your career and retiring on your pension, then you are good with associates. If you want to get promoted or do something after your career then bachelor's is smart. Nobody can ever take your education away from you and if you are young (I started at 22), you shouldn't be retiring in your 40s.

>Whats it like working in a small town?
Small town politics is a thing, don't piss off any board members while out and about. Pay isn't great in LEO terms but it's better than I was making before. I like the fact that I know the area well, it makes it easier to find places when I get a call for service, and it's pretty laid back after 2100hrs since mostly everyone is in bed by then.

>Why did you decide you wanted to work in rural LE over larger metro?

Well I applied for a couple slightly bigger departments but the amount of competition between ex-milfags who get automatic preference, and the sheer amount of individuals trying out is pretty annoying. You can pass all tests but unless you're the best, you'll be farther down the list. I had a buddy who told his chief about me and I got an interview with him and from there I was appointed after riding along for a little while.

You cannot have a badge in New York State unless you are law enforcement, or a first responder, or authorized by a municipality as some sort of official.

Even security guards that wear badges have to get a square badge, so they don't violate the law.

If some dickhead had a CCW badge, they'd get arrested.

EMTs, Firefighters, Paramedics, Cops, COs and Government officials? Yes. Otherwise you're a square badge buddy

I'm currently in the process of becoming US Border Patrol.

It has taken over 6 months so far and I"m still only tentatively hired.

>apply online
>fill out questionaire, submit resume
>wait weeks
>get selected. take some standardized testing
>wait weeks to see if you passed
>fill out more forms
>wait weeks
>interview
>medical exam to see if capable of doing the job.
>first physical fitness test
>wait weeks
>fill out e-qip for background check
>do background check over and over again because the forms are poorly designed. you have to lie on them to correctly fill them out.
>be told you need to have the VA fill out forms saying your army service injuries won't keep you from doing the job. be given ridiculous short amount of time to get something from the VA.
>get extension on the time.
>wait weeks
>va appointment
>another trip to the VA for the appropriate medical records.
>scan it all and email it to the border patrol

Then at some point in the future. I have to go to Orlando , Florida, for a polygraph, and Brunswick, Georgia, for another and different physical fitness test. Pass those and I should then get a class date. To attend the 12 week long border patrol boot camp. then I will spend two years on the mexican border, before I can try to get up to Alaska or Montana.

I'm going to be a cop again by the end of this year. I finally got in with my local department.

I went and was offered a job in a small town, and I said yes. But I ended up getting really bad feels about working there, so I left. And I was right. 2 months after I left their chief was investigated by State Police for misconduct and the entire police force was stripped of their official capacity, and had to call police from the next town over or Sheriff's office to come arrest for them because they were no longer allowed to arrest people for anything non-violent.

Feels real bad to be associated with them. But luckily I got out before it ruined my chances of ever working in this state as a LEO ever again.

>>30198792
Well, basically I really liked everyone. I worked with. But they seemed like they were pretty sketchy about certain things. The local newspaper wanted to interview me, and the chief said "Oh yes, ok, yes." then told me not to talk to them as soon as they left. That was red flag number one. Then the same day, I went to lunch with the chief and my sergeant. Then the entire city council showed up. And they were talking politics about how they needed more of their people on the council. Red flag 2.

THEN, the next day, I showed up. It was super bad weather. Snow, ice, wind blowing shit around, I nearly didn't make it to work. And I pulled up to a street and saw one officer (there were only three, and the chief. It was that small of a town.) messing with a guy she had caught walking through yards and stuff. I don't know why, but the whole situation was just odd. She was obviously having trouble with him, and she was not exactly a "better officer" or more senior than me. But she told me to leave, when I refused she said "Leave or I'll tell." (which made me go "Are we fucking 3 year olds?")

Then I found out she was the average female cop with something to prove, and she had done something she had gotten in trouble for before (being a bitch to an innocent person, in a tiny town.) and she knew I'd make her look bad.
So she was basically doing something retarded, and did things retarded ALL THE TIME, and it was swept under the rug as best as possible by everyone else. Including the city.

This on top of how odd everything was just made me leave. At the end of that week, to stop them from spending a bunch of money on me, I left and went back to college and my old job. It was a shame. I liked everyone. But they were just sketchy.

I'm a full on anarchist and I can't stand those morons. If you disagree with the government and don't believe their authority is valid, then there are plenty of longstanding and well-established anarchist arguments for this. But Sovereign Citizens want to use bullshit technicalities and loopholes (which aren't accepted) in the government's legal system to try to beat them at their own game. It is literally impossible to win in a fair match against an opponent who gets to create, enforce, and interpret the rules of the game. Citing admiralty law and other archaic legal concepts is a retarded approach, and it never results in anything other than tazing and handcuffs, so I never understand why they keep doing it.

I do what I can to help people. I try my best to protect the ones who need/want my help. I try to deter anyone who would take their hard earned money/posessions. I try to keep anyone who would do violence away from their home and their family. If they manage to victimize those people that I'm trying to help, I track them down (fugitive task force) and take them to jail while I remain polite and cordial so that they may answer to a judge/jury.

It's not my job to determine who is presentable/decent. I'm not a judge and that shouldn't factor into an officer's thinking. Personal use amounts? Large amounts(indicative of intent to distribute?) Yes. Large amounts of narcotics are direct causes of theft and violence and make the community a more dangerous place.

My honest guess is he's a rookie, and they learn that at the academy (Not NYPD academy specifically, never observed courses there). It keeps your sidearm secure, and keeps you at the ready. Also acts as intimidation.

When police approach your window for a traffic stop, they usually have their holster unlocked and the firearm ready to be drawn.

Better not post your exam and list number, the job looks around on the intertubes for any personally identifiable info on candidates. It's mostly scare tactics, but keep it all kosher, especially on social media.

I'm good to pass academy, of course.
>>
>>30202800
You're off to a good start. Keep your certs up, take any neat training you can - FEMA type stuff too.

The thing most people fail on in getting into ESU is the swim. I don't remember the specifics, but iirc you wear a weight vest and have to tread water for 15 minutes, the last couple without the use of your arms. It's much harder than it sounds, especially after doing the rest of their course, but you should have a good edge on it as a scuba guy.

You can also look into Harbor or the scuba team, CRC, or SRG. None of them are quite as high speed, low drag as ESU, but they get to have fun too.

>make the community a more dangerous place
It's made a more dangerous place precisely because people like you enforce prohibition. You make the industry far more lucrative than it naturally would be on the open market, and surprise surprise, it's the unsavory types that tend to engage in high-risk, high-reward activities like drug manufacture and distribution.

>>30201162
>is akin to stealing from someone
Define theft. Can theft exist on an island with no laws, populated by two castaways? Or does theft require a government? If the former, then "contraband" is a completely arbitrary classification that does not determine whether the seizure of the good in question is theft or "confiscation". If the latter, then I hope we end up on a desert island together, because I'm going to kill you and take your shit as apparently neither of us can do any wrong.

Because, in the modern era, its the only proven and reliable means to do so. Everything else is theory, with lots of problems imo.

>that still doesnt help the individual being attacked right now

To even have a chance of being able to help every person being attacked right now would require the most omnipresent police state imaginable, in every house, business, street, everywhere. I dont even think thats realistically feasible with todays technology (as much as britan trys).

That is incongruent with the basic premise of america, privacy.

Make no mistake, with freedom comes danger, and the responsibility to protect yourself.

>Everything else is theory, with lots of problems imo.
youre right. but there are lots of problems with the current system as well. the current system is the only system weve even attempted up to this point. other systems might be just as effective but well never know. its not fair to credit cops for the existance a system thats never been challenged.

>Make no mistake, with freedom comes danger, and the responsibility to protect yourself.
all of which is exactly what i was saying from the beginning.

>but there are lots of problems with the current system as well.

There will always be problems. In any system you trade freedom for security, its all about how much. There will ALWAYS be a comprise. How it is handled in the us is just fine to me.

>. the current system is the only system weve even attempted up to this point. other systems might be just as effectiv

This was the argument for communism back in the day. My point is, is that you dont have a revolution or a complete change of the "system" (for lack of a better term) to one that is logically problematic, especially if it is untested.

The legal system in the US, and the law enforcement arm is, to me, one of the better compromises. Its subject to abuse, but all "systems" are, logically.

As a retired FBI told me, get a degree in what you want to do.

If you want to sit at a desk all day and work white collar crimes, get a degree in finance/accounting.
If you want to interrogate faggots, talk down jumpers, and followup with witnesses, get a sociology degree.
If you want to play with semen and AIDS all day, get some kind of biology or related science degree.
He said that all of his friends went into accounting since that's what the "pro's" told them to take for police work, and all of them got stuck on a desk. Meanwhile he was out in the field investigating serial killers and bank robbers with his 70's-era sociology degree.

And owning a gun makes it more likely you and your family will be shot, better lock up gun users too! Fuck off, that's the weakest justification I've ever heard.

For the /pol/ice in this thread, answering yes or no only, do you like your job?
>>
>>30198558

Process can take 6mo (rarely) to a year.

US Border Patrol is going to be open for Agent applications up until Sept/August.

So I'd apply like time now.

Job? Yes.

People/co-workers? No. But that's life.

When I was in the academy, in uniform at a store, I had that happen. I said "Ok, thanks cocksucker." and bought my lunch.

Then I was told, once my captain found out "Don't go around calling Dickmunchers like that a cocksucker. Makes us look bad. You can think it, just don't say it. But I will go ahead and say, good job, just don't do it again."

Applying for Houston PD soon, any advice?
>>
>>30209867
If it's anything like my local PD, make sure you can run 2 miles in one sitting, in under 16 minutes. And make sure you don't do like I did and hurt your back a week before the physical test. That shit fucking sucked.

Also, go ahead and get copies of all your highschool, college, and other educational transcripts. Get a real copy of your birth certificate you are ok with giving them (costs like $30, which is gay but oh well.), and military stuff as well. And start getting your references for your background check lined up and written down.

That way you have a jump on the other applicants and can get it all turned in quicker.

Not him, but I am unironically an anarchist. I also see the utility in having security services, because I can't sit on my porch all day guarding my shit or chasing after criminals. I also like the idea of having armed men on call if I get into a situation I can't handle myself. That's why division of labor is a good thing.

That said, there is a world of difference between what I described and the state of policing today. The blame rests equally on legislators for passing unjust laws, and LEOs for enforcing them.

You sure about that? Fucking New Orleans sent an investigator all the way up to Fargo to talk to my apartment manager, upstairs, downstairs, both sides, and across the hall neighbors.

Apply to both, applying to just one department is dumb as fuck. City cops get caught up in things because they're doing way more than cruising the highways.
>>
>>30213264
No shit. And this was for NOPD? I spoke to one guy who lived a state away and he said they called off his ref page and neighbor contact info. It would be across the country for them to me so similar trip to what they experienced for your BI. I'm actually looking at applying there since it's kinda close by, sucks to hear about that P.O. that got hit by that drunk cunt.

Depends on your units command structure and size. 680 Sworn officers in my Sheriff's department. We have 6 or 7 detachments + Small Cities we cover under contract. Some of the specialized units (Read SWAT) are more full time hard asses as opposed to militarized assholes.

60% of CBP applicants who go to the poly do not pass. Their false positive percentage is massive. I hope you've been pursuing other departments and agencies and haven't put all your eggs into this one basket.
>>
>>30213318

Yeah, blew me away. Everything else about their hiring process was a breeze compared to other places but they probably went the most in-depth on the BI which isn't a bad thing if you've got no issues. If you apply with them expect multiple calls from your BI asking for you to clarify details they uncover while investigating you.

I moved to another department but honestly I liked NOPD and NOLA in general but that's my own personal preference. They're one of the best in that state as far as pay and benefits go but garbage compared to most departments across the US.
>>
>>30213318
>>30213468

Also, from application to recruit was 3.5 months so if you don't want to spend 6-16 months with your dick in your hands and just want to start working as fast as possible and don't mind or enjoy working in an extremely high crime environment then go for it. Nowhere else like it.
>>
>>30213468
I asked this before, but aside from the usual BI stuff, how deep with large city depts look like NOPD? Are they going to read my emails and shitposting?
>I liked NOPD
I'm thinking about applying there, any bad things?
>>30213489
The cities I applied to, one city, if I hear back from them within a 1-1.5yr I'll be amazed. The other is 6mo-1yr so I won't mind the waiting game.
>don't mind or enjoy working in an extremely high crime environment then go for it. Nowhere else like it.
All the cities I applied to are high crime areas so who knows what'll happen desu, anon.

What do you have against busdrivers?
>>
>>30213621

Totally forgot about this thread, I hope you see this.

They won't go into your email but expect a house visit during the BI period so make sure your place is presentable for a walkthrough. Obviously scrub your social media.

The only bad things is the pay, vacation, and sick days are less than the national average. On the other hand they're higher than anywhere else in the country. A lot of the older cops bitch about the way the department is changing but honestly they're probably 10 and sometimes 30 years behind most other PDs in terms of policies and the center cannot hold anymore. The department must change from what it was in order to continue to police effectively.

I loved NOLA. I love the people; even the criminals, I love the food, I love the culture. To me it was like living on another planet. I went from a place wear nobody talks to anybody in public unless they know them and I enjoyed going for a walk to the grocery and knowing I would end up chatting with a stranger and knowing that this is normal there. You really have to like living there if you pull the trigger on it and in my case I'd never been there until I came for the testing process.

Honestly, were I in your shoes I would apply and if they gave me an offer and I didn't have an offer from another department I'd take it. It's not a bad choice, it's just a choice.

Thanks for the reply, anon.
>They won't go into your email but expect a house visit during the BI period so make sure your place is presentable for a walkthrough. Obviously scrub your social media.
I only brought my FB back before I cleaned it and deleted it was because my summer class prof required we have one and too lazy to create another. I live in the south but several states from N.O. would be a first if one came to visit but by all means.
>he only bad things is the pay
I saw, yeah it would be a huge cut from the other cities I applied to but I want to work in a larger, busier, active city so a pay cut is part of the gig.
> I'd never been there until I came for the testing process.
That's how one city I'm applying to this summer is for me. Hopefully i'll get a feel for it, they're hiring like crazy so good chance I'll have a shot.
>Honestly, were I in your shoes I would apply and if they gave me an offer and I didn't have an offer from another department I'd take it. It's not a bad choice, it's just a choice.
No doubt, anon, options are always good. I think if any of the cities I applied to, called me, I'd leave school and go and finish later. Why did you leave NOPD?
