I have a Yugoslavian M48A. I've had it for less than a week.
Today, I shot it and the bolt will not reopen. There is an empty shell casing that I suspect (but don't actually know) is broken. The bolt will not rotate all the way up to open the bolt, but I managed to use the groove the firing pin assembly to recock it so that I can change the position of the safety. Still won't move any further.
I've disassmbled it and reassembled the bolt several times, but I haven't messed with the firing pin other than cleaning.
What do I do?

Pic related, the farthest the bolt will rotate upward
>>
>>30182362
Did you headspace it before you shot it?

What brand ammo were you shooting?
>>
>>30182373
No. I'm an idiot.

Storebought Romanian ammo, steel cased. "Hotshot" brand, 170gr.
>>
>>30182362
Did you try beating it open with a rubber malet ?
I had some sticky cases with the new production romainian ammo
>>
>>30182405
About to try this, will post results
>>
>>30182442
Good luck man hopefully it unfucks it
>>
>>30182399
Thats your problem.lacquer is a bitch and if the a case ruptured you are fucked.try a mallet if that doesnt work try a smith.

>Storebought Romanian ammo, steel cased. "Hotshot" brand, 170gr.

That stuff has a bad rep for being out of spec:

Lacquer ain't the problem fudd, it's the steel case.
>>
>>30182456
Holy shit, it fixed it, thank you you magnificent bastard

I haven't been on /k/ in over a year but I think I'll stick around

Your welcome sometimes with that ammo you really have to wack it out of battery
>my m48
>>
Romania never made good weapons or arms, nor are they known for quality.

Century dropped romania as the supplier for the RAS ammo because of this, it was garbage.
>>
>>30182362
>buying stamped m48A

Shoulda got the M48 that was built for military application
>>
>>30182399
>Romanian ammo
Nah, your gun's fine.

Just set it on a chair or sofa, get a rubber mallet (this is important moyherfucker) sit on it, and beat the bolt open.
It'll work fine just don't shoot Romanian modern production.
Surplus romanian's okay just not modern.

have these gone up in price yet? Should I snag one up?

Don't have any 8mm would probably just stock up on privi.

Paid $405, good simple rifle. People complain about recoil but I'm 120 lbs. and I don't understand the hype. I love it.
>>

Is that a M48 bayonet or vz24 bayonet?

Have you tried turning it off and on again? That usually does the trick with Mausers.

M48; Vz.24 bayonet blade is an inch-and-three-quarters longer, and usually edge-up when mounted on the rifle (though export-contract ones weren't).

I'm not sure actually, It came with the rifle when imported. The serial does non match the rifle.
>>
Everyone should get a M48 while they're still reasonable. Fantastic mausers and very aesthetically pleasing if you get an unissued one as most of them are
>>
>>30182623
What is the cleaning rods size. I have a M48 missing the hood and rod

>>
>>30185505
No worries. I need to get one because mine never came with it
>>
>>30185469
OP here, mine came with a longer rod and no hood.
Bought the hood on amazon for like $8 and 2-day shipping was another $8, worth it if you ask me
>>30185378
Definitely well worth the money
>>
>>30185523
Was it the K98 hood because this is the only one that is around that price range. Rest are like 20 bucks

>>
>>30185523
Glad everything worked out. I still recommend you spring the $8 or whatever for a headspacing tool. It's cheap peace of mind.

How much did that rifle cost? I have a weakness for old Mausers.
>>
>>30182362
Isn't modern Romanian loaded with .315 bullets instead of .323 ?

speaking of mausers, i need a new barrel for a chilean 7mm small ring mauser 95. i got a rusted out and bubbad stockless one for free but it needs a new barrel, preferably a full length 29" one. anyone know where I can find an original or a simmilar shape/size replacement?

>Tfw traded my unissued M48 last year for a Type 99 Arisaka.

I miss that rifle a lot: bought it with my first ever paycheck when I was 14. ;_;

Check numrich.
>>
>>30185537
Yeah, that one
>>30185540
$405, in great (but not mint) condition, and I'll definitely look into the headspacing tool
>>
>>30187253
could always put a liner in it
>>
Speaking of, anyone know where I can find an extractor for a M48? Mine busted months ago, and I still cant find anywhere that sells them/have them in stock.
>>
>>30186340
Some of the Turkish Mausers had receivers and barrels made in Orbendorf, stamped on the bottom. Most have the milled receiver for ammo and not the stamped steel one.
I have a 1945 K98 that was made in Germany, but the stock and rings were made in turkey to be fully assembled.

A few months ago I got an M24/47 for 450 dollars. Was I overpaying way too much? It's not in bad shape, the factory is something like "Radonica 145" when I translated it, some forums claimed that is uncommon. The only thing I see wrong is its rifling isn't in great shape.
>>
Since this is turning into Mauser general, I have a mix master Kar98k which consistently shoots very low. We had to adjust the sights to the 700m range in order to hit a target at 200 yards (which turns out to be 182.88m). I was using 192 grain PPU SP ammo. I've shot it at 50 yards with 192 grain PPU FMJ and it was also hitting way at the bottom of the target. Like, 6 inches low. The lowest gradation on the Kar98k sights are 100m. Barrel matches receiver. Anybody have any ideas what's up?
>>
>>30182362
My czech mauser did the same thing with that shit ammo.

Step 1: Get CLP
Step 2: use muscle to pull bolt open

Thats all I did with mine.
>>
>>30182522
It's the ammo itself being out of spec, most german surplus was steel case you uneducated moron.
>>
>>30196386
Lacquer ain't the problem fudd
>>
>>30196307
Modern commercial ammo is underloaded compared to the s.S. Patrone these guns are dialed in for
also your sights are probably set too high as well
