While there are some females as capable as men, it is rare.
Even in my world of combat support, things like rucking, PT, warrior skills, etc are at least marginally important.
The physical, emotional and mental disposition of the average female doesn't lend as well to combat arms and combat support as compared to men.

Basic physiology suggests the answer is no. However, that doesn't mean women can't be effective soldiers or that we shouldn't employ them in combat roles. The problem is that our female fighting force hasn't had the opportunity to gain experience through a real war. If we developed a culture of battle hardened women, I believe they could be very useful.

Female have natural disadvantages when compared to man, but also few advantages, though not as prominent.
If used the correct way in the correct role, a female can be an effective soldier like a man would.
And yes, that's an extra hustle and resource spending (they even need special food to compensate for lower calcium density) that mostly doesn't worth it if your army isn't irrelevant (Sweden) or doesn't dosen't play a major social role in the country (Israel).

In combat situations they may be even better. Shot from a gun in baby's hands wound as heavy as any other. You don't need to be huge to hold a rifle either, in contrast being smaller is much better to be honest. People think that pulling your wounded friend out of hot zone happens all the time but it does not, and pulling someone would not be that overwhelming to anyone who can pass the average physical requirements.
In every other situation, which is what occupies 95% of any soldier's time like patrols, they are way worse. They don't have endurance or strength, and to get average male levels they need to work really hard.
So carry your shield maiden's burden, and she'd do wonders in battlefield.

I can actually confirm this since I am working in an army trainning camp. There are always at least 1 "spotting partner" for every female trainee during any kind of exercises. The job of the "spotting partner" is to "help" the female "soldier" finish the task.
There was one time that burned right into my memory was during one weapon maintenance test where the trainee must strip the rifle all the way down to the nuts and bolts and put it all back again and able to fire it right after. The bitch start taking the rifle apart half way and threw a fit that "it was too hard" and made the spotting partner to finish stripping the weapon. When the weapon was completely taken apart and all parts lay out by the guy babysitting her, she picked up the barrel, play around with it a bit then threw another fit and demand the babysitting man to "help" her put it back together. Of cource the guy objects because it make no sense since it's her training and not his, so she went straight for the feminist card and threated him that she will tell on him to her "female section counselor". So he went full whatever mode and put the rifle back together and handed back to her to fire it as last part of the exercise, the bitch then said no and demand him to shoot it "because she don't trust that he did a good job putting the weapon back together and don't want it blow up on her."

No. Biological differences make it clear cut that men are better for pretty much every position, combat roles especially. While I'm sure that females do just fine in their roles in the military, their unfortunate shortcomings would most likely hamper the combat effectiveness of a unit. That's not to say there aren't a good number of physically an mentally able females who take their jobs seriously, but the actual amount is too unsubstantial to actually make up for the horror story females you hear about. Maybe in a few generations when people start raising their girls right, but until then, we're gonna have growing pains and dead soldiers.

At the end of our basic, we had to take a physical fitness test - 2 minutes of pushups, 2 minutes of situps and a 3200m (2 mile) run. Nevermind that the standards for women were absurdly low (45 pushpus for men to pass, 25 for women), but what really pissed me (and most of the guys) off is that the special snowflakes only ran 2400m, not the full 3200m, and they all passed the test with flying colours. After carrying their packs for 3 months, and them being driven in jeeps what we had to march, we all called bullshit, but the NCO's said it was a "honest mistake at counting the laps".
