I need a good hunting cartridge for my M1, it's hard to decide.

I love Federal and Hornady makes a great .30-06 load, but I was also considering something like Core-Lokt because of price and availability.

Any help?

Get the sequel book, it's nearly as good as Fireforce. A whole lot of operatan with reserve forces in PATU with one really neat part where Chris is on horseback with some old Boers and there's a guy he operates with for a while who is still using a BREN to slot commies

I got a Type 3 so it was the cheapest option at the time, and according to Gunplumber lore barrels will always time correctly when hand tightening. Supposedly DSA receivers had some minor issues, but those could very well have all been resolved

I got a good deal on the mount and it works well. The outdoor range I go to is shooting from benches and the last time I went I blew out the fluorescent light above me. As far as the charging handle I just prefer it on the right when shooting from the bench.

What selectors do you recommend, the magpul ones seem well reviewed and a good price.

I don't really want an extension, I know the scope and bipod are heavy so a rail extension doesn't really make it worse but they are both on QD mounts. I plan on eventually getting a red dot for it as well and want to keep it light where I can. Plus I like the look of the PMM mlok stuff, and the sun shade I just left on because its hilariously xbox huge.

Will also check around for the magpul selector, pretty sure it is what I will go with.

How isn't it? Price greatly affects how much it compares to other rifles to the buyer. Why do you think people love the Mosin on this board even though they're utter dog shit? But on the way of performance there's no reason to debate. It's obviously much better than the other older rifles.

On some level its not entirely the problem of the G3clone owner. You see, taken as a group, the average G3clone owner is quite poor. There would be little money made producing a superior handguard made out of modern materials to exacting standards.

This is an issue with l1a1 yes but they mention other issues regarded as the "norm" with coonans metric receivers and their change of policy/warranty.

Imbel master race, dsa even has their warranty and still in fact sells forged receivers I don't know why nobody checks their site.

And no, I don't want a "retro build". I'm not willing to sacrifice 50+ years in advancements on optics or the practicality of a modern free float system for nostalgia.

That guy shouldn't have sacrificed the folding stock or compromised on the optic either unless he literally only wants the gun for range time.

Nothing. I said aesthetic. I'm not going for any kind of historical accuracy, I just like the way wood furniture looks on FALs and G3kin but I want a rifle that actually has something to offer in terms of accuracy.

>Consistent 1.5 MOA
>Easy to get out of a PTR or FAL

Get a load of this guy. If you get that out of either of those rifles you're lucky. And with the right load, at that.

As for the M&P, it'll shoot 1.5MOA with any ammunition you feed it in its base factory stock form, including the flimsy, non floated M4 handguard, car stock, and 9lb trigger. Go ahead, Google it. You can find at least a half dozen independent accuracy reports that confirm this, with most of them shooting MOA with at least one of the tested loads.

That means that with a decent load, a good trigger, and a free float, this will beat out any PTR or FAL you can get your fat greasy mitts on hands down.

Hell, there's even a range report on GA where some guys make repeatable consistent 1000 yard hits on a 14" plate with a 12x optic, prs stock, and Magpul handguards not too far off of my current setup.

But keep talking yourself into a hole, or maybe post your rifle anon.

The M14 wasnt designed with such a short action in mind. The 2" longer scout model springfield makes has a full length action, and is known to be more reliable.

Now it has been awhile since I heard about the socom issues, and there has been time for improvements. But if I had my heart set on a short M1A, I would do some leg work and see if they resolved the issues, or just resign yourself that it might not be perfect.

There are other options out there for a traditional stocked semi auto .308 with 20 round mags though...

Let me get this straight, you take offense that I said that your rifle will get 1.5 moa. Then post a bunch of shit about how it will get 1.5 moa.

Getting an FAL to do 1.5 moa is mostly an issue about getting a good barrel, which is not easy to do these days. I had to have one made. Also good lockup, which can be had with an oversized locking lug, and a good rigid forend, and there are some on the market to get that going.

Go google it up.

I didn't take offense at anything, just pointing out that if you think its "easy" to get 1.5MOA out of a PTR or FAL you're kidding yourself. And why bother, when an off the shelf AR10 will do that or better at the same price point.

More importantly, it'll shoot much better than that if you put in any work (like finding a good load or floating it), and takes nothing but a barrel swap to be a sub moa rifle. So, better out of the box accuracy and better accuracy potential for time and money invested, without exception.

>>30191160

Easy sakuya, contain your shit posting. AR10 is easily a superior rifle in all practical and functional regards to anything posted in this or any battle rifle thread with the possible exception of the SCAR, and even that is only open for discussion.

Too bad you bought a rifle with a proprietary BCG headspacing, youd need a whole new carrier group if you wanted to get a new barrel.

>Easy to get 1.5 from an FAL
never said it was easy, or cheap. Just possible, and by and large its a known series of things. Its not as easy as an AR-10, it aint as cheap, but it isnt some arcane art.

>AR-10 superiority to a SCAR
Yeah no. Especially to a fricking SW MP10. If you wanted to argue DD, LWRC, KAC, LaRue, GAP, etc as being at the same level as a SCAR, your right. And if your going for a dedicated long range rifle, could be better. But a SCAR isnt a dedicated long range rifle. Its a battle rifle that happens to be highly accurate.

And adding a wood fixed stock and grip to a rifle doesn't give it a "60s aesthetic".

I know you're used to defending your $3000 rifle purchase against the unrelenting assault of poorfags with PTRs, but spare me the bullshit.

I know full well the capability of the SCAR, I own a 16S. It's an exceptional firearm in almost every regard. Before you go off half cocked about it not being the same, it's the same fucking rifle +/- a few percent in component scale. The SCAR is a great gun all around, and the 17 in 7.62x51 is the best battle rifle on the market in terms of guaranteed out of the box performance.

In terms of how it compares to the AR10, it's the same argument as AR-15 vs SCAR16. If you have the money to drop and you want something that does exactly what the SCAR does, it's a great choice. If you want to barbie doll it or need a feature outside the standard SCAR feature set, prefer the ergonomics of the AR, etc, you go AR. If you drop SCAR money on building an AR you can match it in every regard. SCAR is designed for military forces that need the best rifle with consistent performance without having to quibble over part and manufacturer differences. It does that extremely well.

In terms of "value", ARs of any caliber give you better performance per dollar, but that isn't what this discussion is about.

And, in all honestly, if you aren't a poorfag you just get both.
>>
>>30191768

First off, let's get the "you bought" out of the way. I actually received this rifle as part of a manufacturers promotion and didn't pay anything for it but the taxes on the "declared equivalent income" value from S&W. Anything I've changed or added to it was out of pocket however.

You can call me a shill if you want, but I don't work in the firearms industry in any regard any longer so I can't imagine what incentive there would be for me to talk up their guns on an anonymous image board.

>Barrel Swap

You're right, the barrel extension and bolt are proprietary. So if you need / want to swap out the light weight factory barrel that is easily capable of 1-1.5MOA, add $200 to the cost of the first replacement barrel.

>Never said it was easy to get that out of an FAL / PTR
>wringing out 1.5moa or better out of an FAL or G3 isnt that hard

Pick out.

>Talking as if you know anything about the SCAR when you're an FAL poorfag.

Please tell me more about the SCAR. See pic related. >>30191877

You're anti-fanboying against S&W for a reason I have yet to determine. This is the only S&W rifle of any kind I own, and my only other S&W firearm is a snubnose revolver. If you ever come to Western nuggetfest, I'll let you shoot as many rounds out of the M&P as you need to become educated on what you're talking about.

If something isnt easy, it doesnt mean its hard.
Its a known series of issues to tackle. Its not plug and play, but it is doable.

And while yes, I do loves me some FAL, im more a a SCARfag myself, pic related.

Im "anti-fanboi" with the SW because its a budget rifle, with budget parts, and a budget user base. The .308 class ARs ive built were on Mega receivers and mostly noveske barrels, not budget builds.

With getting a rifle essentially for free, putting some budget glass in a budget mount on it, youve gotten a lot of rifle for little cash.

What are you trying to get it to be?

>keystone

what are you a college freshman?
>>
>>30179072
ohhh, who had the ruger match champion?
>>
>>30192018

It is a budget rifle, with a budget optic, in a budget mount. As far as "budget user base" goes, I'm not even sure I know what that is supposed to mean. Do you refuse to shoot firearms with a base cost of less than $2000?

All I'm trying to do is get people to accurately acknowledge the surprising performance capabilities of what is a $1200 rifle in a retail setting. It's not a SCAR, it's not a KAC. It isn't even a sub MOA rifle. It wont stand up to home builds with carefully selected parts.

What is important, is that even this budget AR10 will outperform any rifle in this thread that isn't a SCAR or another, better AR10. That's all I ever said, and you along with the resident tripfag seem intent on denying that when you literally can't do so honestly.

All I'm trying to get this rifle to be is a fun, reliable battle rifle that will spend 95% of its time shooting steel from 100-800 yards and the remaining 5% of its time killing medium to large NA game. It was capable of that out of the box, I'm just working on getting it in line with my own ergonomic and aesthetic preferences.

Youre a retard. The para rifles from DSA cost $1800 and are on the expensive end. You can get imbel builds for cheap

This >>30189648, plus walnut costs $300, and the laminate actually looks decent in this application. As for no buis, 1) it's a range toy, and 2) my eyes are so profoundly fucked that irons are pointless.

The whole point of the build was to see how cheaply I could put together a .308 AR that was accurate, functioned, and wasn't fugly (ever see a .308 that's pretending to be an M4? Like a landwhale in a cocktail dress). It cycles very well with certain loads, and shoots 1" groups all day long, for $800, including FFL and S&H. I like it, therefore, worth it.

I genuinely don't understand why people buy shitty optics for decent guns.

If you'd like to open up your forend wood options to include split handguards, while retaining a free floated barrel, look at a national match free float tube. It's a competition free float tube that allows you to mount traditional handguards on your match rifle, and still stay in restricted match categories. $100 or so.
>>
>>30193069
I dont think you understand what hard pressed means.
>>
>>30193252
They run out of money I guess, being poor and saving up for your dream rifle or something expensive for a few years means not always being able to buy optics.

I do agree however put an expensive optic on it if you can afford it, if not whatever.
>>
>>30193260

I would rather shoot a rifle with irons for a year than buy a shitty optic. At least buy something mid-grade if you have low demands from the gun. I didn't blow full swaro money on a Swarovski for my .300WM, but I did buy a mid grade Zeiss.

I didn't buy a Mark 8 for my AR10, but I did buy a mid grade Leupold.

And I didn't buy a US Optics for my AR15, but I did buy an ACOG.

I just spend 6-12 months shooting those guns with irons, or not shooting them at all, until I could buy something reasonable.

I have an aimpoint M4 that never really finds a home on any rifle. So new stuff gets to wear that until I get nice and settled on what its going to have on it.

in a fiberglass glass stock with unitized HG retainer and the typical shaving/shimming to accurize it shoots just as well though.

and weighs a fuck ton less.

I considered that, but theres no way to get a set of BUIS on that and the factory barrel wont support an A2 FSP unfortunately. I've thought about it, I would just also need to swap the barrel which means barrel and BCG. Just not worth it for me.

DMR and Battle Rifle: not necessarily the same thing, it would have to be in a full size rifle caliber to be both, some DMRs are made in intermediate calibers usually on the AR platform in the US.

They aren't naturally found in 308.
From everything I'm told about the conversions like mine, I got really lucky not to have a $485 single shot rifle or an outright paperweight.
I forget who, but I know there are people who do more proper conversions than century. They apparently do fixes to lemon century conversions too.
>Are there any reliable scopes for the MAS-49?
I know there's mounts, just like there are for ak side rails. The legit french scopes are ridiculously expensive. I think they cost as much or more than my whole rifle did.

I want to get a battle raifu for a good price but it can't be complete shit. I was thinking of buying an AR-10 lower, upper, chamber, barrel, etc. and using AR-15 parts where possible. This idea could be complete shit so I'm asking for your guys' advice.
>>
>>30200543
>AR15 parts where possible
At best this is going to be fire control parts, stock/reciever extension, bolt/mag release, pistol grip, handguards (there are like two models that will let you do this, and they both ship as full rifles.)

Whats your budget?
