A buddy of mine works at a local gun shop and I talked to him today when I stopped by during my lunch hour to buy some .22 ammo. I checked out some ammo deals they had (they had a spam can of 54R for a decent price) and when I asked him about .45acp, he showed me a few boxes of PMC or some shit like that. He then told me that 99% of .45ACP purchases are made by guys over 40. He said that none of the younger people either buy .45ACP guns or ammo.

WTF happened? Is .45ACP dying?

9mm, a 10mm, and a .45acp. Someone invented 10mm and put all the others out of business. 10mm is so popular they make 10mm lite (.40S&W)
>>
I'm 30 and just bought my first batch of 45 because I just got my first gun in that caliber

I think most people just stick with 9 because it's super common unless they need /want a gun in 45. In my book some guns just have to be 45 like a 1911
>>
>>30158552
No, it's not dying. It's just pricey in any significant quantity and old people usually have a lot more money to drop on stuff like this.
>>
>>30158572

10mm master race confirmed.

It is the best pistol caliber outside of .38 Super.

OP: I actually have three guns in .45 and I'm young (26) but it's not your traditional .45's:

I'm 27 so I guess I'm not young anymore, but I own about six .45 acp guns:

I have two ruger redhawks that shoot both .45 long colt and .45 acp.

I have two CZ 97 B's one with the wood hrips and one with aluminum grips

I have a glock 21 sf

And a rock island armory 1911.

Basically I just wanted one caliber to stock pile and I always like .45 acp

Not trying to start a caliber war, but 9mm is too small for me. Smallest I'll go for a handgun is .44 caliber.
>>
>>30158905
For me my main round is .45 long colt so to me, .45 acp is cheap.
>>
>>30158943
Thank god I have a CZ 97B, and a glock 21 then.
>>
>>30158968
Hey man, when I was 21, my first pistol was a 1911.
>>
>>30158552
it's because the last generation of shooters who grew up having their dads telling them how great the .45 was is getting old. People born after the 9mm revolution are less likely to buy a .45 pistol and for fairly good reason since the 9mm and the .40 are great alternatives that aren't snowflake calibers.

Taht doesn't mean that .45 is outdated. .45 hollow points stll have the best expansion. And if you are running a suppressor, subsonic .45 is a great way to deliver a punch since you're trading away velocity anyway.

It's dead because all valuable information shows little to no difference in terminal wounding between all major handgun calibers.

Even John Moses Browning stated that the sole reason for the .45 caliber design of the 1911 (and its predecessors) was military bias. The 1911 is dumb and the Hi Power puts it to shame.

Only geriatrics own 1911's thus having invested in .45, they buy other .45's because it is pretty stupid to buy 9mm and a 9mm pistol when all you shoot is a .45

But it is pretty stupid to even use .45 anyways.

It's not .45 Schofield.

While some fudds like to say just .45 colt to assure it's dominance, back in the post Civil War era if I'd ask for .45 ammo, there was two types of legit .45 ammo even before .45 acp came around.

I was 24 when I bought my first 45 USP. Was time to quick fucking around with a 380 and get a proven man-stopper. I'm 33 now and I don't carry anything under 9mm unless I am carrying something for deep concealment. 45 and 357 sig are optimum.

I don't know man, that might be a local thing at your shop, yeah 9mm is more popular because it's cheaper, but so is the reason why 22lr is popular.

If anything, in the past decade in my area .45 has become supwr popular and still rising as many people want compwtition or custom hand crafted 1911's after buying every polymer budget 9mm out there... also the sig220 and CZ97B are popular with those who want a .45 but don't want to deal with a 1911.

There are also plenty of polymer .45's out tgerefrom Glock, Smith and Wesson, Khar, Ruger, Springfield, Heckler and Koch all make polymer framed .45 acp pistols

Propably not. Last I heard 1911's were still being produced in large numbers. Fads come and go in the firearms world.

Full disclosure here, I own two guns chambered in .45acp, a 1911A1 and a M1917 S&W revolver. I also own guns chambered in .38 Special, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum, .380acp, .45 Colt, .32S&W Long, .32 Magnum, 7.62x38r .22lr, .22 Magnum and .50 Action Express. Never got around to a 9mm, though. Can I get a gun Smith to hack off the front top part of the Shield slide and have an integral suppressor installed makarov PB style. Or is there laws against this federal or state against it.

.45 ACP has been dead. It is not a new fact that 9mm can perform just as well with more capacity. Do you ever wonder why nearly every PD and military uses it?
>>
>>30162645

Exactly, old doesn't necessarily mean obsolete. Especially when it comes to ammunition types. 30-06 is over a hundred years old and still is one of the most widely used .30 calibers. Still drops thousands upon thousands of deer every year.
>>
>>30162675
>You have to look a little more

.45 is frequently subsonic in normal loadings, which improves suppression by removing the crack.

.45 super or whatever is not.

Not really, but with most .45 loads being naturally subsonic it does make it a bit easier.

230gr .45acp is going to be louder than, say, 147gr or 158gr 9x19 simply because of a larger bore diameter and more powder burnt to achieve similar velocities. The advantage is, 230gr .45 is the "standard" load and 147gr non-+P is kinda rare, and 158gr is really fucking hard to find.

>enjoy ur tinnitus

this is a bit of a concern, i always shoot with double earpro in interior ranges but if i ever found myself in a self defense situation the high velocity rounds i have in it would make quite the deafening boom indoors....

While we're on the .45 topic...
Does anyone have any experience with the Glock 41? Does the longer slide really make that much of a difference?
Gun shop near me just got one in on a trade it and are asking $590 OTD for it and I just might buy it, so I'm just wondering what makes this Glock different from G21.

I own two pistols in .45, both USP variations (any other caliber of USP is for faggots) and a pistol in .380, and I'm in my twenties.

Some pistols really are just meant for .45. I love 9mm too, but shooting .45 is just way more entertaining.

The more people that use 10mm, the more manufacturers will starting making more 10mm.

One day it will be king. One day.
