I've been a gun owner for 3 years now and I still feel like I'm doing something wrong when cleaning my guns. I've read countless tutorials, but I'm curious what some of your cleaning techniques are and what products you use.

>boil a bag of water
>place entire gun in bag of boil a bag of water
>grab boil a bag and swing around for 30 seconds
>take weapon out of boil bag
>shake a lil

Don't use a lot of solvent, it probably removes that copper from the bore.
You should be able to look down the bore and see powder fouling or lead. Use enough solvent to knock those out.
Is it just a meme?
Does you gun still function? If yes, then it's probably fine.

To be honest, not many modern guns need all that much maintenance if all you want is for it to consistently go bang.

Old Marine Corps trick.

no. it cleans and protects your finish

I use it a lot. Bought it originally for my straight razor, and it ended up oiling my guns

I still need to clean my guns from the last 2 range trips
>Dismantle the gun
>rub down every inch of it i can with a Rem-oil cloth until i get no more black stuff
>Look hard in the crevices for any black marks on the cloth
>run the cloth through the barrel until no more black
>spray gun down with some oil/lubricant
this works really well for the slide, barrel, and other field stripped parts, but i know there is still build up in other places. I deal with this mostly by ignoring it, but if i ever notice anything real bad I would further disassemble everything
I keep my handfuns in a 5gallon bucket of clp when I'm not using them
Hoppe's no 9 for the bore - CLP for everything else

I use ear wax on my Sig rails. Free, and works like a dream, no joke.
I'm thinking of adding a dedicated, specialized cleaning table to my gun room.
If you were making one, how exactly would you set it up and what would you have on it?

I would probably start with something very similar to the set ups most people use for painting miniatures, Warhammer figs and such.
Imho most people over do cleaning and oiling for various reasons.
That said my go to rifle and primary carry gun are fucking spotless but thats because I'm anal about my rifle and clean my carry gun weekly to keep all the lint that collects from effecting function.
As long as it still functions and your not getting surface rust you're doing it right especially for range queens.

Huh.

What I always do is make some special loads
I usually have about 4 or 5 rounds loaded with some dove men's care soap instead of a projectile, after I'm doing having my fun at the range I shoot all those bullets or until the bore is bright and clean, then I have some ammo on hand loaded with cotton balls to wipe the bore clean
Once I'm satisfied I load my rounds filled with butter to lube my bore, usually one or two do the trick
Never had to worry once about my gun being dirty give it a whirl op

I do something similar but I shoot some toast rounds before the butter rounds for a quick snack
