Looking to buy my first fun, a Fin M39.
I don't know much about guns, especially older ones. Would it be prudent to buy two in case one breaks for whatever reason. Or are they going to be neigh indestructible and easily last a few generations.
>>
>>30106331
Most people would say to get a smaller caliber to start so you dont develop bad habits like flinching
>>
>first gun
Ruger 10/22
>>
>>30106539
>>30106465
Thank you both for completely ignoring my question.
>>
>>30106582
Why acknowledge stupidity?
>>
You won't need to worry about breaking, just don't treat it like shit.

But you should probably get something else as your first gun. This coming from a guy who fell for the meme and got a 91/30 as my first gun. It's my least favorite gun now.
>>
>>30106601
Wondering about the longevity of a gun is completely legitimate.
>>
>>30106331
They are usually pretty sturdy. I'd look for one rifle which has a good condition.
>>
>>30106601

>a bloo bloo bloo .308 hurts my shoulder you should use a .22!!!!

just do dry firing practice idiot
>>
>>30106331

What is it you like about the Fin M39?
>>
>>30106684
I was looking at getting a Mosin and through my research it seems that the m39 is the best you can get because the Fins threw improved parts on them. Beyond that i don't have a good answer.
>>
>>30106331
>>30106684

>Fin

Two Ns please, they are Finns, not Fins.

Anyways, well maintained the rifle will outlast you. The question is, will you maintain it well?

m39s can be rather frustrating for novice shooters, as they tend to be set to hit above the point of aim. This was due to Finnish military's policy, which many other nations had at the time, of teaching soldiers to aim at the belt buckle.

I don't know if I would recommend a m39 as a first gun. Ammo is only going to get harder to get, and they can be a little fiddly. I might recommend a commercial bolt action, like a Savage, CZ, or Tikka, if you want a full sized rifle cartridge. They make them in a variety of flavors, from 223 up to stuff like 9.3x64 Mauser.

Should you get the m39, disassemble, clean, and oil the bolt when you get it. I do not mean brush the outside of the bolt with oil. I mean take it completely apart, and give it a good scrubbing with a rag, with a light solvent if needed, then oil and reassemble.

Thank you for the info. So as long as i keep up with basic upkeep there's no reason to worry about it.
>>
>>30106795
Well, it is an older gun. So you should inspect it every once in awhile, especially if it has been humid. It is easy to miss cleaning and oiling mosin magazines. be vigilant whenever it is humid outside especially.

But yes, as long as you take care of the gun, and use no stupidly hot reloaded ammo, you should be fine. Obviously beware of corrosive surplus, though it can be shot safely as long as you clean your bore within an hour or two.

I assume we are being raided or something.
>>
>>30106918
Dry firing a Mosin is no harder on the bolt than actually firing the damned thing. Why would it be? Not like the old rimfires where the hardened firing pin was hitting and damaging the chamber wall.
>>
>>30107065
Gee bill, that's a whole lot of nothing you've got there.

In case you haven't figured it out, I'm shitposting in response to your shitposting. If you actually think dry firing will damage a mosin bolt, I suggest you
A. Find a mosin bolt
B. take it apart, observe how it works
C. put it back in the gun
D. Shoot yourself in the head with that gun.
>>
>>30107075
The firing pin striking nothing causes vibrations that can crystallize (crack) your firing pin.

Am I being memed?
>>
>>30107075
Quantity for one. Gonna click it a lot more when it's free. And I just don't like the idea of whacking an old brittle firing pin when I dont have to. Especially since I haven't actually shopped for replacements..
>>
>>30107113
Nah I think we are just getting raided by rebbit or something.

Jesus just buy a $10 pack of snap caps if you're that autistic about the possibility of breaking a $5 part in a $100 rifle.

I've literally seen it happen right in front of me.

HAAA, I was just thinking that.

you really think that hitting nothing cause worse vibration than actually firing the gun you autist.
Have you ever shot a gun?

Are you retarded?

Even the shittiest nugget will last longer than your grandkid's grandkids.

Sure you have. I totally believe you.

>>30107226
Just use a spent case.
>>
>>30107319
>Just use a spent case.

I mean or just use nothing since the chance that you'll actually work harden the firing pin to the point of breaking is next to zero.
>>
>>30107279
I think we have already confirmed he is.
>>
>>30106582
I see no question marks in your op
>>
just get a regular mosin
a 91/30 was my first gun.
a great choice imo.
>>
>>30107583

>use this tool designed for dry firing if you're worried about damaging your gun doing it

totally more retarded than buying an entirely separate gun.

the only people that think flinching is an issue are people that shoot 100 rounds per year
>>
Most people would say get a smaller caliber to start but it's a pretty solid gun and ammo is pretty cheap. Don't pay too much, get one that will shoot well (good bore). Learn how to shoot a mosin well and you can shoot anything well.
>>
>>30108015
Pretty sure his point is you called a $350-400 rifle a 100 one.
>>
remember, the mosin is one of the best rifles to be ever produced in the last millennia. If you see one for $500, it's a steal!
