I've always been enamored with these.
How do they shoot?
I have a CZ75 SP01 so I find it hard to justify another full size, hammer pistol purchase but damn do these look sweet.

OP here, I have an FEG as well. I bought it because it was only $300, and I figured if I didn't like it, no big deal. If I did, I could upgrade to a nicer model with confidence.
>>
>>30077475
they shoot great, very easy to control due to steel frame. unfortunately the triggers are heavy, but they are very short and crisp. good enough for carry/combat, probably better options for competitive target shooting. deadnuts reliable. the sights can be a bit antiquated, if you want fancy fiber optic or night sights you gotta mill the slide. i love mine. probably shoots pretty similar to your sp01

They're completely steel; so while they're pretty hefty, it negates most of the recoil of 9mm. It's ergonomic as fuck as well, and one of the only pistols I've ever owned that I can actually reach the controls without shifting my grip AT ALL. My only gripes is that on new models there's a ~400 round break-in period where the springs will be REALLY stiff. Even after that, the hammer and recoil springs are still pretty stout, and require non-girly hands to operate. Otherwise, after some tinkering it'll have a really nice single action trigger pull, and shooting it will be a blast.

Man, I can't even remember when I last shot this thing. I just have so many rifles that my handguns never seem to get any attention.
>>
>>30077722
Oh lordy that's got a sexy hammer and grips. I'll gladly take it off your hands if you can't properly appreciate it!
>>
anyone ever seen these fabled "mouse trap" magazines?
>>
>>30077772
Yep. They're shit. Low capacity, the springy thing doesn't do much to really help them fall free, I just don't see much of a point.
>>
Just got my Mark II from AIM Surplus last week. The finish is all scratched up, but it shots just fine. Before I consider refinishing it, I'm wondering if changing anything out is worth it beyond the fun of tinkering.

What are the thinnest grips available? I have small girly manlet hands.

Are the replacement parts from Cylinder and Slide worth it? While I feel some grit from the mag disconnect, I don't find it terrible. I already know how to remove it.

I'm stuck with the sights I have, outside of milling new dovetails, right? The front is milled off the frame. The rear is in a dovetail, but is very low profile. Any adjustable rear sight is going seems like it will sit too high to make use of the existing front sight. There are no drop in rear sights that won't require milling, is there?

No. if you're going to dump money into aftermarket, have something nice to start with in the first place.
>>
>>30078304
I'm buying a new hi power and am going to try to make the fallout NV 9mm, just for the hell of it.
>>
>>30078380
>the fallout NV 9mm
you mean a vanilla hi power?
>>
>>30078402
No, the NV hi-power has the brightest tritium in the world and it's 20% larger than a regular HP.

It also magically Locks it's own slide back when you hit the may release.
>>
>>30078402
Nope, it's got a silver/C&S ring hammer and trigger and tritium sights.

Here's my Israeli Police Trade-in FNH MKIII. It's cosmetically worn but mechanically in great shape. I like it because I think it might have been used to kill some Arabs.

No pics. But ive got a portugese assembled FN. Late 80's.

Shoots like a dream. My buddy and i spent last sunday coring out the X on all our paper targets.

Then it was on to smiley faces and tic tac toe.

What makes you think it killed sand niggers if it's a police trade in? I thought the idf handled the dune coons.

I ordered a "Like New" FEG off Bud's for $370... Should be here Tuesday. How bad did I fuck up?
>>
>>30082494
FEGs make the best hi powers just short of belgian ones, youll do fine. Definitely post pics when you get it though
>>
>>30082494
Yeah if this is the one you ordered, youll be good to go. The only issue is that itll most likely have some ugly import marks somewhere on it.

Need virgin mary grips.
>>
>>30078152
Craig Spegel makes great custom grips, and they're the thinnest you can get.

I have C&S hammers & sears on both my HP's. They are excellent if you need to replace those parts for some reason, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

What you should consider for a surplus gun is replacing the recoil spring & firing pin spring, & getting a spare extractor spring in case you need it: Wolff gunsprings.

Hey boys this thread is for me I'm about to pull the trigger on a Browning Mk 3 anyone have any opinions they want share before a drop a grand on this piece ?
>>
>>30084188
I'd see if Aim Surplus has any police trade ins for sale. I got mine (the one earlier in this thread here >>30079373) for under 500 bucks. Cosmetically it looked bad until I took off that paint shit they put on it. I like the worn look it has.

Hi Power was one of my first handguns. Mainly to complete picrelated
>>
>>30084188
I think the current prices for MK3's are crazy. I paid half fifteen years ago for mine.

Unfortunately they aren't likely to get better. The HP is expensive to make and there aren't lots of competing manufacturers as with the 1911.

If you want a new one, the new MK3 (be sure to get the nice blued one--no point in paying nearly the same price for the epoxy finish) is a great gun.

On the other hand, you can get the full HP experience from a FEG or trade-in, as long as it's in good mechanical condition.

So... you really like snake girls, don't you anon?
>>
>>30085816
Another New Vegas fan? Fuck yis. I'm honestly considering dumping almost $4k into a Hi Power Renaissance, and some custom virgin mary grips. A service rifle build is definitely on my radar as well.

Thinking about a surplus Hi-Power from AIM for a first handgun. Anything I need to look for when I get one? I already plan on replacing the springs, are there any small parts prone to breakages?

Well, it showed up much sooner than I expected. I got to pick it up today after all.

I was not disappointed, it's a beautiful gun. The trigger feels a little gritty, but I assume that's the magazine disconnect I've heard so much about. Can't wait to get this to the range.

There's some VERY mild scuffing on the finish, I assume from the gun sitting in an armory for years, or from when the importers got their hands on it. Someone put a dab of white model paint on the front sight that flaked right off under my thumbnail with no damage to the finish underneath.

Other than that, it seems brand spanking new. The internals are pristine. Hot damn.
