Any friendly Texanons within 2 hours of San Antonio have any land they don't mind being used for shooting? I'm sick and goddamn tired of paying 60$ to a range just to be able to shoot my own guns, not including the cost of ammo, then not even being able to use my slide fire stock or have a smoke.

That's goddamn cheap... Inside the golden triangle it's more like 3k per acre... Luckily a guy I work with has a pretty good sized chunk of land with an 800 yard lane. It's kind of funny to be right up next to the road shooting while people drive by. Local gun club range 5 miles down the road cost $70 per year but only paper targets and max of 200 yards.

If you want people to actually let you on their land to practice shooting, I recommend driving around outside the city, looking for a good spot, write down a dozen addresses of people with lots of wooded areas that have tire tracks in them, four wheelers, and that sort of thing. Look up said people in the phone book, or go to a local store, and give a general description of the house to the cashier while the place is busy, asking if they are around, if you can't find anything in the phone book, or via this tactic, find more places, try again.
When you get a hold of someone, explain that you wanted a place to set up a shooting range, but the range by your place recently closed down. Offer to clear, and maintain the the trails on their property if they let you shoot somewhere on it. Do not tell them you are cheap, or that you plan on smoking/drinking their. If they ask, don't lie, but don't direct attention to it. Try not to seem rowdy, cheap, or poor.

If you're looking for land to shoot on within two hours of San Antonio go down to Castroville and surrounding areas where they have large grain fields or cotton. Knock on the door, introduce yourself, explain that you're a guy owner from x area and have x occupation, and say "I'd like to have a place to shoot at, I'll clean up my brass and I'd be happy to do some work for you to shoot out on your plots"
Most of those guys don't give a fuck and you might make a friend. That method worked every time in the panhandle for me and if you take the time to drive 20 minutes away from highway 90 your chances of success will only increase. If you show up in a hatchback Subaru or don't own a pair of boots don't go that route ever.
Landowners and farmers take well to their own kind and if you seem like a strange sperg from SA you're guaranteed a no and should just stay at your local range.
I'm blessed by being close friends with a guy in Dripping Springs and I shoot at his ranch when I'm not in Lubbock. But basic manners and handshakes do wonders for landowners in Texas.

My brothers and I would sometimes go up in the late summer/fall with a bunch of camping gear, a truckload of guns, unholy amounts of ammunition (we reloaded most of our spent rounds), and even more beer and sometimes some of that devil's lettuce. Dad didnt give a shit what we did there or when we went there as long as we didnt completely trash the place. I can legitimately say going there was the best part of the year.
But my father passed away about 7 months ago and my stupid bitch step mother sold the land without telling anybody. Only found out when someone called my brother's cell sying he found a stand on his newly bought land and wanted him to pick it up.
