You could probably build a passable one for like 400 if you really cheap it and know what to do.

If you want for sales or black friday or whatever, it is possible to build one for under 500
There were complete uppers last black friday for 200 shipped (I forgot the company, but it wasn't a mainstream one. People said they were fine IIRC). Complete lower also for around 150

Psa has slabslide ptac kits for 300. Buy that and an anderson lower for 40 dollars.
I built one for 400... Anderson lower 50$ and a full parts kit 350$ kit..
No forward assets
No dust cover
No rear sight.
Rifle works fine
