Can we get a black powder and before weapons thread going? Literally one of the most interesting periods of guns desu

Started hunting with a Kentucky long rifle replica. Even wear wools when the humidity is low. Feels great mang.

Percussion cap. GTFO

I've honestly always hated the way those look. Love me a good blunderbuss though. Any cheap repros available in Canada? I'm picky though.
>>30032757
God i love those double set triggers
>>30032757
I've got a few

when was the last time you saw a modern gun with this much craftsmanship put into its ornamentation?
>>30036437
fuck that's nice
Anyone ever make there own bp rifle

Aiming to get a repro hawken kit. Not sure how good the "traditions" kits are.
>>30032757
Picked up an 1858 pietta for home defense (lol yuropoor). Does any one have any experience with conical / wadcutter tips?
like the one on pic related (yes pic is for ants and not mine)
Currently trying to find the best load for it, any input is welcome
>>30036769
Stick to lead balls. As close to pure lead as you can get (which, if storebought balls, is pretty fucking pure). Even at BP-pistol velocities they expand a LOT.
>>30032757
>>30036785
Not sure of what you imply (not a native english speaker). Is there not any benefit in using conicla/waductters if they're pure lead?
Sorry if I ask dumb questions, still new to it, and nothing come up in my actual language.
>>30036808
What knife is that?
>>30036862
Why does someone ask literally every time I post my pic.

>>30036755
They aren't bad. The barrels are pretty good, but generally the mechanical components require a little hand fitting.
Track of the wolf used to have 50 and 54 caliber lyman trade rifle kits. Those are a touch better than the traditions, but a bit more expensive. They are hawken patterned as well.
I want to into black powder. Is a repro Springfield 1861 good for someone starting out in muzzle loaders?
>>30037356
Sure. Front heavy as shit though.
The rifle is only 10lbs but that 10lbs is hanging out about four feet in front of you.
black powder rifles are for autistic bubbas prove me wrong
>>30036526
I haven't but I just saw a dude on YouTube make his own black powder pistol, the related videos have some rifle builds, check it out. The video I watched is just called "Hardware Store Muzzle Loading Pistol"
>>30036437
because when you put that much decoration on a modern gun people laugh at you and call you a drug dealer.
>>30036581
>>30036595
>using sights
dishonorable
>>30037405
No, you haven't proven why you are right.
>>30035511
Fuck you. Matchlock for life.
>>30036526
I've assembled kits, but the only from-scratch piece I have ever made was an early hand-gonne, as forging a barrel is a bitch without specialized equipment.
>>30032757
Out of all the guns I've owned and shot, these two are still my favorite.
Anyone had any experience with pedersoli modern black powder guns? Im thinking of getting a flintlock hunter one.
>>30036526
great fucking video

Pendersoli guns are like BCM ARs. About as good as it gets for a quality to price ratio.
>>30039912
If you get a flintlock, make sure you either buy real black powder or make your own. Most of the substitutes have a higher combustion temp and are therefore unreliable in a flintlock.
Besides, you should use real black powder anyway. even though they say it's cleaner, the substitutes are dirty as all hell compared to bp and you can't use just plain hot water and soap to clean your gun like you can with real bp.
>>30032757
So help a guy out who's interested in black powder rifles but doesn't know enough on the subject to make an intelligent investment.
I'm a huge fan of the Kentucky long bore rifles. I've heard Pedersoli makes nice reproductions. Are there other quality brands out there that you would recommend? My price point for the rifle would be around 600 bucks.
My other question is flintlock or percussion and why? I'm not looking to start any butthurt here, I would just like to hear the pros and cons of each from someone.
My investment wouldn't occur tomorrow or anything, but I'd like to maybe see about picking one up for myself around Christmas or so once I'v had some time to shop around and figure out exactly what I want. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, /k/omrades.
>>30036857
Conical wadcutters are shit. Semi wadcutter is best desu. Ball is ok but that other anon is a fag who doesn't seem to know anything about shooting anything other than ball.
>>30040008
Get flintlock. You will never run out of flints but caps can become b& or impossible to get depending on economic or political conditions changing.
>>30040008
Pendersoli is one of the best mass producing manufacturers out there, but anyone who sells muzzleloaders will probably have a longrifle product. Dixie gun works is a good place to buy from.
As for which type of ignition, it really up to you. Percussion caps will always have faster ignition or just as fast as any flintlock with a quick locktime. another advantage is that a percussion gun won't have any issues at all when using the gun in the rain. you'll have to buy a cows knee if you even want to think about using a flintlock in the rain. that said, a gun's flint can last anywhere from 5 shots to 20. whereas a percussion cap for obvious reasons only work for one shot. you also won't be finding any percussion caps in the wild. They used to make a little tool that'd stamp out a percussion cap out of aluminum cans, and you'd just put in your own impact sensitive explosive in it to make your own, but they discontinued it a while ago.
You can also shoot any kind of powder in a percussion gun, while a flinter will be finicky with substitutes.
>>30040019
>Ball is ok
You gotta know your gun to decide what's best.
it's a general rule that if your gun's twistrate is fast, like a 1:32 you should use conicals for best accuracy. if your gun has a real slow one, like 1:66 patched round ball will give you best results.
Of course this is general info, i've had rifles that didn't care what you put through it, it stayed pretty consistent.

Where in Europe?
>>30036548
Don't you just love those crazy double purpose weapons. It seems silly as shit but if someone pulled one on you...
>>30036500
How exactly did you hold these?
>>30040128
Key guns are just the most adorable guns out there.
>>30040130
stock goes under the armpit. one theory on why they're like that is because only mounted riders could afford a gun so they were the ones using them a bunch. after guns became cheaper they just sorta stuck with the design.
>>30039880
>wearing bottles of gunpowder
>carrying a burning cord
Yeah, "matchlock for life" seems like one fuck up can make for a short one.

Makes me wonder what Mr. Kesler would of thought of hipoints.
Beautiful and one of the few guns that aren't muzzle loaders which you can own without a permit here.
>>30040488
Where's that?
>>30040488
Germany. The law states that anyone may own a single shot percussion weapon designed before 1871, so this and the Sharps are a popular choice here. Sadly no BP revolvers.
That said, Dreyse and Chassepot needle guns are also not too expensive here, but harder to shoot successfully.
