What's the largest thing you would hunt with a .22 and could humanely kill.

Pic related, it's about shot placement.

use it as a club
It probably makes the job easier

I hear you can kill white tail pretty quickly and painlessly with good shot placement with .22? I'm not sure though, I haven't known anyone who has
>>
I regularly butcher sheep using my 22wmr. Wouldn't have a problem doing it with a 22lr if its all I had.

With headshots magical things can happen.
>>

Anything that I can kill with a foil. For coyotes I use a bigger bullet for a better blood trail, but if you shoot one with 40 grains of lead it's gonna weaken the pack as a whole. It all depends on the kind of hunting you're doing.

Like am I catching the animal and just using the .22 to polish it off point blank?

In that case, I'd say an alligator since the people who hunt them use .22 point blank to the brainstem in order to do as little damage to the hide as possible.

If I'm actually shooting something from range I wouldn't go above possum or raccoon size.

.22s are probably the most used round by deer poachers I hear. I doubt they are shooting them at point blank range.
>>

Poaching deer with .22 used to be big. Hunt at night and aim for the heart.

I've taken 4 deer so far with .22. Granted, all of those have been within 30 yards, and were all shot in the side or back of the skull.

I'm confident that the round itself has enough power as long as you can reliably hit the brain. I'd guess the round loses that amount of power somewhere between 50-100 yards, although I cannot personally confirm.

I shot a coyote with a .22lr a few years ago. Hit it in the hip area with a hollowpoint.

I was honestly really surprised when I saw that the bullet has passed all the way through it..

It did a decent amount of damage. They coyote ran about 25 yards and then dropped

Woodchucks, raccoon, Opossums things about that size.

once it starts reaching into dog sized territory i use my SKS.

not saying a .22 can't kill dog sized easy, but i don't want to lung a yote and have to hear it whine until i either shoot it again or it stops breathing. a lung with 7.62x39 is almost instant.

Can anyone recommend a .22 air rifle?
I was thinking of getting a Gamo Magnum

Would only hunt small game but still want something powerful

I would also buy a proper gun but 1. I'm a beginner and air rifles are good to start with, apparently, and 2. Lots of forms to go through and safety classes etc. to get a gun license that I don't want to go through

thinking about buying an SKS for my first rifle soon. What's a good price? My local has a chinese listed for about 310, but it's out of stock. They also have a Yugo for 485, but never fired/issued. I'd rather have the chrome lining, but is that yugo a good buy?

dat nutshot
>>
>>30030068
thats a godawful price for a yugo, even unissued. theyre pushing it when they charge 400 for unissued yugos.

310 is great price, these days.
>>
Well considering ive used a 22 at 20ish yards to take down cattle whenever we need beef, I'd say anything up to that size as long as it's a close shot
