Hey /k/, canadafag here. My PAL just came in the mail, for my first firearm, I'm looking for a reliable starter rifle (under $800) and am wondering if anyone has any input in the ruger American, savage axis II, mossberg patriot, or the Winchester xpr

Get a Ruger 10/22 and work on the basics.

I already have one, just gotta get it from my dads place, he just lives 5 hours away.

Then save up a bit more and get a CSA VZ58.

I have a mossberg patriot. The thing looks beautiful and shoots pretty darn well. Mine is chambered in 308. Would recommend.

I'll get the fun guns after my hunting rifle and shotgun. I wanna get a feel for my gun before I hunt.

Thanks, did you get the combo? If so how's the optic on it?
>>30019838
Yeah i got the combo, optics not bad! But the thing is I got mine a while ago. They have combos with vortex optics now which are 10 times better than what mine came with.

Savage 10TR then. I have one. Just need some decent glass for it.
>>30019857
Nice, I'm gonna go fingerfuck one this afternoon I think.

I dont blame you, I did the exact same thing. I got to Dicks and played with it for 10 minutes and bought the thing. The bolt is really smooth, and it has a free floated barrel for improved accuracy.

Maybe go on canadian gun nutz and look for a used winchester model 70?
Get a tikka instead. Sub moa for sub 500.
Savage Axis is THE WORST rifle
But legit, find a Model 70 or a Tikka T3. I'd say Remington 700 just cuz I have one bit their QC is shit. If ur $800 is for both rifle and scope, I suggest you get a Thompson and Center Venture, it's like $500 and a tack driver.

Why is the Savage Axis bad?

The stock feels like dollar store plastic. Also the stock bends incredibly easy.
