I have an optic already, I just like the look of the carry handle iron sights.

Would installing a new gas block be something I can do myself, or do I need to go to a gunsmith?

You can do it yourself but it shouldn't be difficult to find a gunsmith that will do it for a reasonable price.

you probabbly should take it to a gunsmith unless you are capable of drilling 2 holes through the new fsb and your barrel
theres the risk of you drilling in the wrong place resulting in a nonfunctional gun or canted fsb

Just put a free-float handguard on over the gas block; mount the front sight on the end of that.

just get a 100 round drum magazine. you dont need sights when you got 101 rounds to hit a target once.
