If I were ever to do something like this, I'd dig into the base of a small hill, build a small structure out of 2x4's and osb sheathing, cover the whole thing with several layers of kilz sealer inside and out, wood glue 1x1's into all of the cracks as "molding", tarp it, and then just bury it.
I would shoot for a cozy hobbit hole sort of thing, with a small wood stove, candles, shit like that. I figure it would run be about 300 to 500 bucks depending on what I bring inside of it.

Instead of doing all that construction, why not just use a poly septic tank? Those are designed to be buried, so you don't have to worry about dying in a cave in. Plus, no problems with rot or leakage.

In regard to these shelter/bivouac posts, where can you even do that? Even in the national parks viable for innawoods activity most land is owned by private landowners. Do people actually do this or is it just another power fantasy?
