Name a better military victory than this, you can't and appreciate the true military genius of that orphan boy from Thessaloniki.

So the Germans on D-Day.

While Mustafa Kemal did indeed do a admirable job, the opposing generals were utter retards. Had he faced a smarter opponent, like Foch, it might have gone the other way.

But it's a pretty awesome story nonetheless.

Name a better military commander against the turks than him.

>protip: you can't

>Turks
>defending their own turf
>still lost almost as many men as the attackers

They won, but they didn't exactly trounce the ANZACS by any means, or anybody in WWI for that matter.

Very unmotivated army of WWI.

>garbage allied generals
When will this meme die?
The empire was hampered by line of sight technology. They couldn't see what was beyond the first hill, limiting them to outdated maps. This led to overlapping sectors of fire, defensive lines that didn't exist and a lack of water (wells were not fresh water)
Was it a huge clusterfuck? Absolutely
Was it because the leaders were garbage? Not really
>it was an unknown unknown
You guys act like the empire in 1915 was on par with the red army in the 1930s

Agitator of the crown for Arab revolt, yes.
Hit and hide type advanced guerilla warfare tactics, yes.
Commander, I am not sure. He probably rarely had command over 1.000 men at a time.

It was Churchill's crackpot idea. Of course it failed. And the Turks could have been neutral or allies due to strong pro-British camp in the government but due to British fumbling:

>On 5 August 1914, one day after declaring war on Germany, the British government decided to requisition two Ottoman battleships that were being built in British shipyards. Since the ships had already been paid for by public subscription, the decision provoked the fury of the Turks. A few days later two German warships, the Goeben and the Breslau fleeing from the French and British fleets requested passage through the straits to Constantinople. One week later the two warships complete with their German crews, their identity thinly disguised by wearing the Turkish fez on their heads, were renamed the Yavuz Sultan Selim and Midilli and “transferred” to the Ottoman Navy. The British refused to recognise the transfer unless the German crews were removed, and to back up their demand the Royal Navy blockaded the entrance of the Dardanelles: a warlike action that was bound to provoke a hostile reaction.
