Going through my father's old gun safe I found this old S&W revolver. It is is a break top revolver. DA only? Hammer visible. I want to say it's a S&W model 3, but I am unsure. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Model 3's were SA only.

Preciate the help. I can cross the model 3 off my list of guesses lol

That's a Schofield revolver. Single Action.

Not a Smith. iver Johnson, h&r, Sears(under a different moniker) and many companies copied the Smith, but S&W's trigger looks different and has S&W on the grips. Should be a DA only, and either 32 or 38 S&W caliber.

That is a forehand and Wadsworth 32s&W caliber pistol. Smith and Wesson overlays the S on the W for the logo.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the cartridge was most likely black powder 32 short. Smokeless will work in it for a short while but the cylinder will eventual fail due to the higher pressure. Might happen after 50 rounds, might happen after 1,000 rounds... but it will fail spectacularly when it does.

Are there markings on it other than the Serial number? If not it might be a Spanish Eibar copy, model 3's were particularly popular to counterfeit

Maybe you'll get lucky and it will be a "Smill & Welson" from Sprangfield

Pressure of smokeless rounds that were originally blackpowder did not change. The pressure rating is identical, the only differnece is the amount of powder needed to reach that pressure.

Thanks much! It did actually turn out to be a forehand and wadsworth revolver

Awesome, thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately, there aren't any other markings on it. It actually turned out to be a forehand and wadsworth revolver.
