/k/ how fit do you need to be to get into the Canadian military? I ran 5k today and got 48 minutes. I havent run in a couple months and I can do 30 push ups and 10 chin ups. Can I make it in? pls halp
>>
>>29923837
If 5k really takes you 48 minutes that's totally fucked. 30 push ups and 10 chin ups in how much time?
>>
>canadian army
>standards
You're going to be fine. But don't sign up unless it's for personal gains.

This country is shit, once I save up enough I'm moving to a pro gun state.
>>
>>29923910
maybe like 30 seconds not long
>>
>>29923910
why is it fucked? I cant even fathom how people do it in 15 minutes
>>
>>29923950
For context I've always been a shitty runner, haven't run for nearly a year, did a 38 minute 5k a week ago. I suppose you don't need to be in good shape to get in but having cardio will make your life easier once you get in.
>>
5km in 48 minutes is pretty bad.

10km should take you 45 - 55 mins.
2km in 7:00 - 7:30 is god tier, 8:00 - 8:30 is ok.
>>
I can do rope skipping and other cardio exercises for aboout an hour with no problem and I ve never exceed my time even when I did run a lot. Can some people be shitty runners or am I not trying hard enough?
>>
>>29923998
Probably a little bit of both.
>>
>>29923978
Air force here.
If it takes you more than one hour to run 10Km, don't even think about joining...
>>
>>29924038
why is that? dont they train you?
>>
>>29924045
French here.
Why whould they train you? Waste of time and money.
You want to join, you do sport before joining.
Military isn't here to turn weak into strong, just stong into stronger.

I must admit this is the french mentality where for every spot in the army, there are ywo candidates. But then again, 10k/1h is the very low average for a human being imo.

30 push ups and 10 chin ups is okay, assuming you did them correctly. Just google it if you're not sure or this will devolve.

5km in 48 minutes is really slow. On the plus side, if you can keep up a jog for 48 minutes without issues, you're halfway there. For example try setting a goal at 40-35-30-25 minutes. Like >>29923982 said, 45-55minutes on 10k is good enough.

Remember to mix it up though, you're going to need both endurance and lactic capability. Don't lock yourself on stats, just keep up a good running schedule, a balanced diet, sleep 6-8 hours a night and your body will do the rest.

I run 5km in 25 minutes and consider myself slow as fuck. Start training, anon
>>
>>29923837
...5k...48 minutes.

Just figured I'd mention that it takes me about 30 minutes to walk 5k, holy fuck.

THAT said, they don't expect miracles when you start Basic. I started and could only do 5k before being gassed, and by the end could hustle 10k no issue.

>>29924067
That's...stupid. It's called Basic Military Qualification for a reason. They bring you to the minimum standard...well, they try to anyway. I remember seeing this Godzilla sized fat fuck show up while I was on Basic and he didn't stay longer than a week.
>>
>>29924654
There's no way in hell you could walk the trail that I ran in 30 minutes. Im starting to think it's more than 5 k
>>
>>29924654
If someone really wants to join the french armed force, he gives himself the mean to do so.
A weak steps in basics: i want to get strong. Why didn't he get strong before?

I laught pretty hard when i see the american having a wieght loss course: why not tell the guy to fuck off and come back when he lost weight?
>>

haha, yeah I know. I'm not really expecting to carry out dismounted operations with gear or anything. It's mostly for fun.

48 minutes is slow as hell bro, I run a 5k in like 26 minutes and that's retardedly slow
>>

>>29924654
I highly doubt you can walk 5k in 30 minutes unless you have insane stride length.

Can partly confirm, Canadian who was briefly in the Legion here. I thought I was a passable runner (5k in 19m, 10k in 45-ish) before I went to France, but I ended up being the second-worst in my section. Compared to the Canuck infantry reserves (with exactly the kind of fitness standards you would expect from reservists, lol), everyone in France was a fucking cheetah.

I did a 5 mile in 41 minutes the other day. Get your 5k time down to 25 minutes.
In us army 42 pushups is minimum for 18-20 males, and for airborne guys, 6 pullups

You gotta put in work
>>
>>29924758
I guess you need to take one hour runs 3-4 times a week for a few weeks and then start working on speed.
>>
>>29924786
London?
>>
>>29924799
what would I be aiming for time on the one hour runs? I did 8 k in an hour the other day
>>
>>29924817
You are just starting. Dont think of anything except making hour long runs. No speed or anything. Watch your technique and get used to running. In a few weeks you will start improving but dont expect to finish 10km in 45 minutes anytime soon.

You mean you jogged, average walking speed is 5m (3miles) and hour so you were pretty much speed walking it. Keep working at it, you have a long way to go.
>>
>>29923837
>5k in 48 minutes
Jesus Christ op, I run one 5k a month and like maybe go for a walk once a week and I pull a 27 minute 5k
>>
>>29924876
how fast is running? I had like a 7 kmh pace
>>
>>29923837
Like many anons have pointed out here, 48 minutes is an okay 10km time, should probably start running a whole lot more before you join least you wanna have a shitty time in bootcamp
>>
>>29923837

you could be 300lbs of pure fat and get winded after climbing a single flight of stairs and they will still let you in.

you're already more fit than half the army
>>
>>29924860
could I improve to this time or close in a couple months?
>>
>>29923837
>almost an hour to "run" three miles

I got out of the military in 2012, and I can still walk four miles faster than you can run three. Seriously, improve your cardio or accept being a fatbody and go work at Tim horton's
>>
>>29924221
Holy shit

>>
>>29925082
Sure, I dont see why not. The important part is regularity. Dont skip trainings and leave some days for resting. There are numerous good programs on the internet. You can start with the one that aims for 10k in 50
>>
>>29924541

canadian doctrine seems to be much more about technical training. who cares if you're a lardass if all you do is push buttons on computers

but also, for every person the canadian military wants, there's only one fifth of an applicant and it's some asshole like >>29923915 who's clearly going to go to basic and leave as soon as he's not allowed to carry a gun in public anymore. the turnover rate is insane even among people that make "careers" out of it, people just up and quit as soon as they get to corporal/leading seaman (or whatever the army calls people with two chevrons i dont give a fuck)
