Army infantry has better special schools, higher chance of getting to attend special schools in general, and has seen more action in the past 20 years.
Marines have a longer basic, and a massive PR budget. The general public views Marines as super-soldiers.

Shorter bootcamp, less niggers and chicanos(actually in term of number, there are more niggers and chicanos in the army than marines, but in term of percentages, they are lower so a typical army infantry unit has less of them than the marines), easier to get promotion, better benefit gravity, barracks doesn't look like a homeless shelter, etc

At the very basic level, an 0311 would arguably be better than an 11B.
Once you factor in CLS for all soldiers, Airborne, all the schools available to 11Bs that they're actually likely to get into, and cross training, 11B wins out big time.

You do know the Spratlys is contested territory that nobody really owned? It only became a problem when Southeast Asian nations became independent in the 40's and 60's and China was more or less reunified at around the same time.

My father in law was in both Navy and Army and worked with both, and he says he would rather work with Marines than Army because they are more consistent. He said Marines are always gung ho and get shit done, while Army has good units but is more of a gamble with a shit unit.
I was an 0311 so figured he was just floating my boat so I asked him "I thought we are pretty much the same".
He just shook his head and said nope, at least not from his viewpoint.
