>you can't kill someone with birdshot

How did this meme start? I'm pretty sure a 12ga 2 3/4" she'll can kill someone, birdshot or no
>>
That's never been said, it's not a meme, and don't try to make it one. Post fewer shitty threads.
>>
>>29915208
>CAN it?
Yes.
>will it do it RELIABLY?
Fuck no.
>>
>>29915226
>get shit with birdshot
>shrug it off

Pshhh, nothing personnell... kid
>>
>>29915208
It isnt a comment on the bird shot... It a comment on your character and skill.

YOU cant KILL with bird shot.
>>
>>29915248
Birdshot makes a big ugly wound but often doesn't pent rate deep enough to kill reliably.

Just buy a box of buckshot you cheap fuck.
>>
>>29915208
My uncle got shot 3 times with birdshot in the face at like 40 yards
>>
BIRDSHOT IS SHiT

I used it to execute a possum once on my parents farm, after I dumped it from its trap I shot it point blank with a 24" barrel 12 gauge. Fucker lived, so I shot it again. It was still alive. Then I ran back to the house, got some 00 and put a fist sized hole in it.

Only time I ever felt bad about killing something.

That shits for clay pigeons, at most.
>>
>>29915394
>kill reliably
this is key right here.
>>
>>29915208
depends on range, and in the case of >>29917205
skill or the lack of it. at point blank range birdshot is mor powerful than buck and does a fuckton more damage(unless you suck at shooting and miss twice) once you start getting out past 2 to 3 feet the birdshot has start to spread and loses the punch needed to reach vital organs.
>>
>>29917175
then for months when you are sitting around the table, eating, every now and then you hear a **clink** every time another piece of lead works its way out.
>>
>she'll

>at point blank range birdshot is mor powerful than buck and does a fuckton more damage

You know how this works. Post you're source or your retardation is immeasurable.

Yeah, maybe if you didn't shoot it in the head like a sane person would. Congrats.

Annnnd the fucker didnt die, what do you know? If he was a methed out tweaker, he would've beaten you to death with your own boomstick using his other three limbs and stolen your TV by now, since you thought it was a good idea to defend yourself with clay target rounds
>>
>>29917817
Congrats. If the point of this thread was that birdshot was a suitable HD round then you'd be right, but it isn't. OP was stating the lethality of the round. That shoulder is gone, therefore one could assume if it was pointed at someones heart (quite susceptible to bullets) or skull (quite thinner than an arm bone) at the same distance they'd be fucked.
>>
In your house where the wad wouldn't even have time to open then birdshot will work, but it also won't spread very much.

People assume shotguns have crazy spread, but it's basically a slug the first few feet (possible a short corridor or your doorway) and you can indeed miss.

Other than the above complaints birdshot should still be fine for home defense. Keep in mind they won't go through multiple walls like bockshot tends to if you have shitty paper walls.

Now i'd personally use a semiautomatic shotgun, and the flashy Hornaday critical defense meme.

Looks like he survived to me :^)

Anything that can poke an ancient granny's jugular "can kill someone".
But to kill reliably with varied shot placement is another matter.

And what's good for defense is another matter from that.
Them eventually dying from bleeding isn't important to a defender, what is important is them instantly stopping whatever it is that you had to shoot them over. To most reliably acheive that, you want something that can penetrate through a sternum and either wreck the soft stuff on the other side, and/or keep going to break the spine.

Birdshot can't do shit to what's behind big bones, so it's a shit choice for defense, in today's market.

>>29917817
To be fair buckshot to the shoulder wouldn't do much better, would likely end up with similar injuries. Shot placement matters a lot more than load
>>
>>29920681
All birdshot is not created equal.

There is #7 target loads, and #1 magnum goose shot/b/bb/T loads.
>>
>>29920681
At home defense ranges birdshot functions like a slug that explodes inside you on contact.

Try thinking instead of parroting next time.

Obviously, birdshot is not ideal, but I'm not really trying to penetrated all those vital organs hiding behind the femur.

One of the more retarded things I have read on /k/.
>>
>>29915394
We have birdshot for killing birds, we have buckshot for killing bucks, we have bear shot out for killing bear.

How come no one as ever invented Manshot?
>>
>>29921628
They did. It's called .45 ACP.
>>
Vastly inferior to a good 000 buck for killing people. I mean it'll work though.
>>
>>29921628

sounds like a specialist website...

I got caught with a few pellets in the face while out clay shooting, long range, didn't break the skin, I'd be more worried about short range where it is still an oz or 2 of lead in a lump

was looking for some cheap 8-9mm shot yesterday, hence clicking on this thread

I know but it still seems weird that the army basically uses the same ammunition for hunting.

It's like when a brain surgeon use a black and Decker drills. Sure it gets the job done, but surely we can get something more specialised?
>>
>>29921723
>I know but it still seems weird that the army basically uses the same ammunition for hunting

They don't need anything more specialized and desu the civil end of things has better ammo. There's only so much you can do
>>
>>29921723
00 is pretty good for white tailed deer or if you must kill people, them too.

Man shot would just give them bad press. It would be sort of like making a mini cabin trap for humans and calling it Man Trap. The bait suggestions for Man Trap include, survival gear, food, money, liquor bottles, etc.

It would be loads of bad press all around.
>>
What about 28 Guage birdshot rounds at point blank ?
>>
I think most people in this thread are referring to 7 shot. The cheapo Winchester low brass. I guarantee high brass 4shot or larger will ruin your day.
>>
>>29917175
>40 yards

kid shotguns kill maybe up to 15yards, 20 at the absolute most.

What shit hospital are you talking about?

At least my trauma one center can into craftsman. lolololelelele

BTW: since I have all 2x4 internals and plaster construction, I'm happy with #1 buck. 0000 buck is wildly overkill
