/k/ I want to start building my own AR. Any brands to avoid? Any to look for? What materials should my 80 lower be made of? What price range should I stick to? Are Ares Armor as shitty as people say? Who killed Mr.Burns?

I haven't dealt with Ares since before they fucked over the owner and kicked him out of his own company. They were great before that but I can't respect such a shitty move. I got a poly80 lower from them and it built into a great rifle. You can buy whole rifle kits right from poly80's website though so there isn't much of a reason to go to other dealers. I put a PTAC upper on mine and it kicks ass. No accuracy or reliability problems as long as I oil it every now and then.

After the first one, you'll be totally confident building more. It's pretty simple to finish a polymer lower. Much better than an aluminum imo.

wait, regarding the buffer weight. I thought too heavy a weight might cause problems for some ammo as well? Or am I wrong?

How much do you want to spend?
I would Honestly copy this build.

Might have forgotten something
>>
>>29904028
I was looking to spend 700 or less. Since I'm a califag my selection will probably be more limited but thanks for the info and giving me a place to start.
>>
>>29904225
>Since I'm a califag my selection will probably be more limited
no it won't.
As of right now till election day (all the fuck shit gun bills waiting to be voted on), you can slap on a bullet button and pick whatever you want. The bullet button isn't permanent and can be swapped back to normal release in under 5 minutes if you move out of this shit state.

HANDGUNS are the big limitation in CA. Not long guns, aside from a few OAL limits.
>>
>>29903178
Yes it is. I have >5000 rounds through mine. Polymer80 has designed the buffer tube area to be stronger with extra material.

Its a fuck load easier to work with. Here is a video of them shooting .50Beo through one btw

>>
>>29904322
How about flash hiders and flash suppressors? I know most guns sold here have muzzle brakes instead of either.
>>
The easy mode AR:

>Spikes or anderson stripped lower sourced locally.
>Aim NiB bcg (usually $99 free shipping)
>PSA barreled upper. Look for premium line or similar
>Literally any LPK look for free shipping
>MBUS rear
>whatever furniture you want

You've now got a sweet rifle for $750ish.
>>
1. Do yourself a favor and get an adjustable gas block.
2. Fuck Anderson. They are cheap, but they are cunts.
3. Get an adjustable gas block.
4 GET AN ADJUSTABLE GAS BLOCK!
>>
Build it in a meme caliber like .300 Blackout
>>
>>29901833
Don't get a polymer lower. They are not trustworthy, just google and see all the ones broken at the buffer tube extension.

Go 80% arms for the jig, assuming you don't have a mill. Using a router and drill press you can finish a rifle in a few hours, you don't need much in the way of mechanical skills, and it's all pretty portable.

That said, if you are on a limited budget, it's way cheaper to just buy a complete rifle or a stripped lower.

Those lists are the internet equivalent of a fossil. What he wrote then was perfectly applicable to the AR scene at that time.
>>
>>29908204
the bolt carrier list is stupid regardless
plenty of people made bolt carriers at the time and didn't charge $150 for it
>>
>>29901833
Barrel and bolt carrier group is the heart of the rifle.

The trigger and muzzle device are the tits and ass.

Irons and optics are her intelligence level.
>>
>>29908316
as long as your bolt carrier doesn't lock up or break, it doesn't matter
>>
>>29908368
extractor might break or something, my DPMS bolt carrier group is out of spec as fuck, no real compression on the piston at all.

you are supposed to be able to stand your bolt carrier group on the bolt-face and it not compress.

I'm also fairly certain because of this, gas leaks around the piston (bolt) and shoots into the receiver instead of out the gas port holes on the carrier.

Before you ask, no it isn't the gas rings. It also goes back together just fine with the extractor facing the inside of the receiver, and will attempt to eject spent brass directly into the side of the upper receiver.

Get a quality bolt carrier group and not deal with fucky bullshit.
>>
>>29908420
Aim makes $89 bolts that work fine
Don't buy from companies that are known to be meh
>>
>>29908449
I would probably buy a Spike's, Colt, Daniel Defense, Noveske, or BCM mil-spec BCG tbqhfam.
>>
>>29908460
If you like paying for a name with no additional quality, I guess
>>
>>29908477
Maybe you're right, which manufacturers would you buy from?
>>
>>29908515
AIM, Ares, Prime Weaponry, Brownells (B-Tac), etc

Brownells has the B-tac for $79.99 right now
>>
>>29907235
Why?
>>
>>29908608
it reduces recoil but unfortunately the lower you gas your gun, the less it's reliability

Unless you're a fucking idiot and use a carbine gas, in which case, yeah go ahead and buy one so you can have a nice light recoiling gun to put in your mouth
>>
I found an R-guns lower cheap.

Ive read about their shit customer service. But are their lowers any good? Im just looking for a cheap build.

That sounds good, until you add s&h plus a ffl fee.

And i dont know any more about anderson than i do Rguns.

lol all these idiots that don't realize the "plastic ars will blow up" line is just a fudd meme. Most are reinforced polymer, some 80% lowers use kevlar in the polymer.

>>
>>29910590

ITT: poly80 representitive
>>
>>29910693
>Says the aluminum factory owner
>>
What tools are needed for an 80% lower?
>>
>>29910739
Traditionally, a jig, a drill press, and a mill.

80% sells a kit with a jig that allows you to use a router instead of a mill, and they claim you can use a hand drill instead of a drill press.

I've completed two lowers with the drill press and router and they both came out clean and in spec.

>>29910590
Nah poly lowers suck. I am speaking from experience. The only exception is GWACS/Cav arms. Its not that poly lowers blow up, they can't handle the abuse of the BCG hitting the buffer, and they crack/break at the point where the buffer tube threads in. You can find plenty of pictures of it. That's why they started making them with metal reinforcement at that point.

But they're not cheaper, and parts/mags don't fit as well in them. So what's the point?
>>
>>29910739
With the 80 Percent Arms Easy Jig, a Router, a Drill, and a table vice. A Drill Press is much better but a hand drill will work as well.

Also a drill press is not a router, don't use it as such.
>>
>>29910739
drill press and a dremel. Routers are a pain in the ass and aren't multitaskers
>>
>>29911461
>>29910997
>>29910988
Any good how to's or videos you guys recommend? I've seen some YouTube's but I can't really tell who's doing a good job or not.
>>
>>29912435
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjRFDGSWWvo

They're really simple to finish. The best tip that isn't common sense is to drill a little bit of each pin hole from each side then mill out the fcg pocket. That way they always line up straight because you avoid any wobble in the bit from trying to extend all the way through.
>>
>>29913780
Is milling a polymer lower the same as a aluminium one?
>>
>>29914176
Yes it's almost exactly the same.
