Aww, was gonna say nice M4gery and ask for internal specs :(

Heres mine. LE6920 (obviously) with a PRO, kac rail, and Matech buis. Want to slap a PEQ15 on it at some point, but theyre pricey and i dont even have nods.

What did you build?

aren't those stupid expensive to keep serviced?

Not in my experience, the PVS7B's and PVS14's we used were pretty durable and rugged. I suppose "buy once cry once" applies to NODs. Not sure how much replacement components are though if something does break.

>uncommon opinion
I preferred 7B's to 14's for most applications. Probably the only soldier ever to hold this opinion lol.

>>29896459
>implying its charged and able to be placed on safe

This fucking guy.
>>
>>29896471
yeah, i personally think 7s are shit. when i did vso i signed out a pair of 14's from the team we were attached too. even the afghans had 14s. fucking disgraceful.
>>
>>29896537
7's better for driving
>>
>>29896471
you probably also wouldn't put as much wear on them in personal use vs. military use. didn't think about that.
>>
>>29896537
ANA had nods? Damn. Yeah my biggest gripe with the 14's was that because the weight is off to the side due to the swing arm, it would end up over time twisting the mounting bracket on my kpot and id have to retighten it constantly. Admittedly i probably could have just locktighted the mounting bracket screw and been good to go. I liked that the 7's would be more "plug and play" and after getting used to them the depth perception issues within a meter or two were a non issue.

most modern us military vehicles have DVE

this was 2011, so since you're "OIFGuy11B" i don't know when the last time you deployed was

>>29896360 Sorry for shit pic, just now took it. I'm going for a sopmod block 1 build. The only thing I need now is a kac ras and foregrip. I built it on an Anderson lower and a PSA melonite M4 upper. Other parts include a Carpenter 158 M16 profile bolt carrier group, extended latch charging handle from Model1Sales, a car-15 stock assembly from MA Parts inc, a surplus ex-military carry handle sight, and Omega parts kit.
>>
>>29896572
Yep that too. I can remember hearing about NODs getting deadlined and sent in for servicing maybe once or twice. Like i said they are pretty darn durable.

>>29896631
09-10 to iraq, only deployment. I dont even recall IA having nods.

>>29896634
Looks good, love the car 15 stock. Also you can find used kac rails on gunbroker at decent prices, just make sure they come with all the screws. Sometimes theyre missing pieces and then you have to order replacement part kits.
>>
>>29896634
Also I got 2 GI mags from Brownells
>>
>>29896697
Yellow follower mags? If so, i highly recommend loading em to capacity for a while and then breaking them in. We had nothing but feeding issues with our brand new ones when we got em. Not sure if it was a widespread issue or not but the lot that we got was plagued.
>>
>>29896690
09-10? Were you out of lewis by any chance?
>>
>>29896690
Thanks for the tip. I've seen people selling them really cheap on Ebay, same with the foregrip. Though I think a lot of the ones I see on there are fake.
>>
>>29896762
Nope.

No problemo senor, happy hunting

how do you like the stock trigger on that M4?
Mine felt like a real heavy pull. I just swapped it out for a 3lb Timney. Seems a lot better for me.
>>
>>29896723
They have green followers. They seem to have the same problem as a lot of other GI mags I've used. When the bolt is closed the mag won't seat properly and just slides out when fully loaded. I just take one round out and then it's perfectly fine.
>>
>>29896825
Its a typical M4 trigger. Not heavy, not light, some creep, but boringly predictable which is probably why the milspec AR trigger is held in such high regard.

>>29896834
Theres a very easy fix to that and also if you experience reliability issues due to the old tilting follower design, magpul sells 3 packs of their anti tilt followers for like 9 bucks a pop. Excellent drop in upgrade if you've got a bunch of USGI mags sitting around.

The fix for the issue you described is either load it to 28 of 29 which I personally won't do....or you can man the fuck up and firmly insert the mag in the well and make sure it seats with a good tap and tug, or you can do what i do and administratively load the rifle by locking the bolt to the rear, inserting the magazine, and dropping the bolt to chamber a round. This is the most garunteed way to ensure that the mag seats properly. Unless the rifle gets really fouled, its going to lock open after the last round anyway and itll seat a new mag just fine. For my patrol rifle at work, we cant carry with a round chambered so i would just firmly seat the mag on a closed bolt. Many semi auto handguns have the same "problem" when seating a full mag on an in-battery slide.

These mags actually come with the anti-tilt followers so no reliability issues there. Thanks again for the tips.

I know jack shit about building an AR, besides the upper, lower, and stock what else will I need?

Is there any difference between lowers?
>>
>>29897351
Most lowers are basically the same. So what ever you get will work. If you have the complete lower, complete upper and stock you should be fine. You just have to make sure when you purchase your complete upper that it comes with a bolt carrier group and a charging handle because a lot of the times they don't. As far as what bolt you get is up to you. There are you M16 bcg which have an extra bit of metal on the bottom that is meant to catch the auto sear in an M16 to hold down the disconnector for full auto fire. Then there are your standard AR 15 bolts which either cut away that extra bit completely or entirely. It's up to you in the end what you get and what sort of material it's made of. Then there's the charging handle which you can get a standard milspec one for under $20 at your local gun store or where ever it's cheapest. Also don't forget to buy a magazine or two and some ammunition. 100 rounds usually goes for a bit more than $30. At least that what 55gr .223 goes for.

buy a kac lower they are only 700
