Use tanks, dozers, shovel teams to create fire breaks a long long stretches. More remote fire lines could have breaks created via coordinated bombing runs.
I guess I would use their airlift and other logistical capabilities to evacuate civilians, and move men and supplies around as needed. The soldiers themselves can run aid stations and maybe be put to work helping to construct fire breaks. If looting becomes a problem in evacuated cities they could provide security, though I haven't read about any of that happening in Fort Mac so far.

Explosives 'have' been used successfully to aid in the extinguishment of oil fires in the middle east.
These techniques are not used anywhere else however. Oil fires ate small and cannot spread however that was not the question. Yes they could work provided they remove one leg of the fire
