Nope. Not bait. 100% honest. Blame it on too many samurai movies as a kid but it's my favorite sword. It's also the only sword I have any training in, even if that training was like 7-8 years ago during Aikido.
>>
>>29873095
the proper name is three quarter armor

Used alongside gunpowder weapons, fun enough. That's why the helmet is open like it is, they decided that situational awareness was more important now that arrows were less of a concern. Didn't matter if you had a closed helm and got shot, youd be just as dead as if you had an open one

I'm getting real sick of that shit. Katana is a sword like any other, it has its ups and downs.

To make Katanas fedora, is to make all swords fedoras.

I fucking love maces, but I could swear I've seen some really elegant-looking ones before, like the gold-colored one, but with a less pronounced top protrusion, and the inward curve wasn't so deep so there was more material left in the flange, and several more flanges. I really liked the way it looked, and I'm sure more flanges can't be a bad thing?

Katanas themselves aren't fedora, I agree with you there. What's fedora is the neckbeards who try to say that it was a superior sword to other designs, as well as people who idolize a Samurai culture that was manufactured by Hollywood. Katanas on their own are actually pretty neat. But anyone who thinks the traditional smithing technique is inherently superior needs to get some metallurgy in their lives. Modern alloys defeat all conventional steel in comparative tests.

And now I feel like a neckbeard for typing all that out.
>>
Currently digging on the Shield Rod and Combat Dagger combo.
>>
>>29873571
Defending against savages - sword. Katana is good against unarmoured targets.

In a tropical rainforest, avoid polearms.

Against animals, choose thrusting weapons, as animals charge you. However, against humans, cutting and/or smashing is preferable.
>>
>>29877699
The quality of steel produced by Japanese was quite remarkable, considering that their raw resource was really shit.
>>
>>29873571
Go quality tomahawk or go home.

Natives used it for a looooooong time, or as I just read in this thread, all the way up until the introduction of metals.
They constructed entire martial arts systems around the tomahawk.
They lit fires and hunted bald eagles and took down grizzlies and buffalo with the tomahawk.
They gave birth with the aid of the tomahawk, performed c sections with them, successfully pulled off the stitching of internal bleeding with them, used them for medicine, and sheltered entire tribes with them. Hell they even used tomahawks for clothing most times. Get a tomahawk man.
>>
>>29877806
Plus unlike most of the shit ITT you can get sharpened, modern tomahawks at a hardware store in the US. I'm planning on adding one to my backpacking loadout.

>>

Yeah, if you're skilled enough not to hurt yourself with it (=shitton of training), there's noone else around to be hurt by it, you have enough space to use it, your enemy is not overly armored...

Perfect for being a cunt and confusing someone who is used to the more straightforward weapons.

Beside all the fancy wagglan, it's just a throwable weight, a chain and a cutting pik together. All of which can be found alone and used as but this one simply combines them.

I've always been fond of long swords.
Speaking of which I have pic related and the cross guard has come loose. Does anyone have any experience working on a cold steel italian long sword? How do I remove the pommel cap without damaging it? Would I tighten the hilt like any other pseudo-rat tail tang? Or should I just cut my losses and save for something with a peened pommel?
