Katanas themselves aren't fedora, I agree with you there. What's fedora is the neckbeards who try to say that it was a superior sword to other designs, as well as people who idolize a Samurai culture that was manufactured by Hollywood. Katanas on their own are actually pretty neat. But anyone who thinks the traditional smithing technique is inherently superior needs to get some metallurgy in their lives. Modern alloys defeat all conventional steel in comparative tests.
And now I feel like a neckbeard for typing all that out.

I've always been fond of long swords.
Speaking of which I have pic related and the cross guard has come loose. Does anyone have any experience working on a cold steel italian long sword? How do I remove the pommel cap without damaging it? Would I tighten the hilt like any other pseudo-rat tail tang? Or should I just cut my losses and save for something with a peened pommel?
