Hi /k/
I'm wanting to get into 1911's for funsies and up until now have only owned polymer 9mm's of varying types
I've read from here and other places that the Ruger SR1911 is an excellent entry level model
Anything I should know about them? Other suggestions for a first 1911? Stainless aesthetics and under $900 are my only must haves

1911s are shit unless they've had at least a grand put into them. The general plan is to get something to use as a base with decent tolerances and a low price because most of it is getting replaced.

This is nonsense, unless you have some kind of crazy exacting definition of "good."

They're fine.
If you want stainless, it's a good starter gun.
Colt Springfield and Remington also have good guns around that price.

Rugay is gud
Springfield SS mil spec *can* be gud
Had countless numbers of various Rugay SR1911s and Springfields of many varieties through my hands during my time of working in gun store part time through school. Have shot both enough to tell you IMO they shoot ~about~ the same, obviously with different features like beavertails/sights adding up to change your experience, but between the two guns depending on specific SR in question
What I have noticed is when it comes to how it feels in the hand, and perceived build quality
The bell curve of SR's seems to be fairly concentrated around "good", with a very rare not good/wow great
The Stainless Mil specs from Springfield on the other hand have a bit of a wider distribution, with some feeling like shit with disgusting triggers to wow this thing is only $795, fucking deal, and obviously most bein somewhere in between as well
Personally, I'd probably buy an SR
Or use my pro deal on a DW Valkyrie, but I digress, as that will have to wait for grad present to myself, that, or getting a real job. Hey, if I buy it now, probably will only have to wait another 6 months after graduation next year to fucking get it

For any 1911fags ITT with larger budgets than OP
According to our buyer, CZ says entire DW production for 2016 was bought up before shot show was over this year
So if your looking for them in stores and your store doesn't have any... Well you may be SOL or be paying out the ass on gun broker

The stainless valor is always in stock and the duty treat comes and goes at bud's. They had both stainless and duty specialists as well as the heritage in stock last I checked.
For what it's worth.

We too have Stainless Valors, but afaik we were unable to order any 2016 production
But hey, good to know for Buds then-- based on the Valkyrie looks like they were some of the 2016 buyers
Things like the Discretion, I have yet to see listed for sale anywhere yet, even gun broker

Put this next to the ruger and it looks like its a die cast toy

Well, it would't look like a toy so much if it were a .45
