Sup guys. I just got my second pistol, i think its a s&w 586 tree fiddy 7, for 70 bucks from a friend. Its blued, with a lot of surface rust. I looked around, advice seems to be get the rust off with 0000 steel wool. I didnt have any 0000 so i used some 000 instead and it seems to work very slowly.
Wat do to remove rust? Any tips on protecting the finish underneath? Also it smells fucked up, I assume its just the corrosion. Only gun i had before was a hi point, tips in general on revolvers, maintenance and shit?

You should shoot .38 out of it just to see if it works. If its built for .357 it should run with out a problem as is with .38 special loaded in it

Call and find out, on a $70 buy, you should be happy to spend $300. If there's nothing wrong with it is probably be less. They just need to strip it down and blue it.

Get in your vehicle, play the song American Pie(the long version you dirty commie), rock out till you get to town, and go buy yourself some bronze wool, some gun oil, maybe some brass tooth brush style brushes for those hard to reach places and get to work.
