Everything that will kill a human will penetrate th everliving fuck out of regular house walls. Just do some research on ammo, choose a good quality hollowpoint at a standard pressure that's lower than the hot loads but hot enough to cycle reliably in your gun.
It's not a bad one-gun option performance-wise, 10mm is just fuckin expensive to practice with and has more recoil than 9mm or .45. But as far as ballistics, it's totally fine. Just don't use the +p+++ super death bear defense wadcutter ultra extreme school penetrator for your home defense ammunition.
