Lets talk gun safes /k/.

What brand did you get? How did you set yours up? Were you able to get yours anchored?

I'm currently sitting on a post-tensioned foundation. Shit sucks.

I'm in the midst of purchasing a Mosler TL-15 jewelry safe for my gun safe. If I rated it like the gun safe industry does, it'd be a burglary-proof 30-gun safe with fully custom interior and EMP-proof quick-access electronic lock with light.

Currently have about 18grand in guns, time to stwp up the safe game before i drop the money on my registered lower.

Buy a Sturdy Safe. It's the best bang for your buck in terms of high end security safes. They're made to order, and highly customization.

I have a Winchester 24 gun safe, its bolted to the floor and has the locking bolts on all four sides ofnthe door. It's far from being burglar proof, but for the random dindu it'll be enough to make them pass it up since it'll be a bit of work to get into. It's supposedly fire proof as well. Like I said its not 100% thief-proof but it's enough to let me feel at ease knowing my guns are in a safe

In all seriousness, I actually want a TL-30X6 safe... but that's unlikely since it's about $5K out of my budget (for a reasonably sized safe) right now. A TL-15 safe can be insured for contents up to $200K; the TL-30X6 for $500K. If I end up hording >$200K in physical assets, I'll buy a better safe then (and probably keep using the TL-15 for my guns). Until then, TL-15 already far exceeds my security requirements.

I've got a deposit down on the TL-15 safe and am working on getting space to put it. This coming week, I'll get started on designing the interior. My goal is to comfortably fit at least 15 rifles inside. I'm thinking the back row will be scoped hunting rifles, the middle row will be scoped sporting rifles, and the front will have two scoped shotguns on each side. The door may have luan cut and upholstered for handguns and maybe for a home defense rifle or shotgun.

>Like I said its not 100% thief-proof

No safe is. That's why you should live in an area with reasonable police response times and subscribe to a monitored alarm service.

If someone breaks into my home at night I can worry about the threat and not dialing 911.

I have a Cabela's 12 gun metal locker because I live in an apartment. It's a cumbersome fucker buried behind boxes of books in a closet so I figure it's good unless a burglar came prepared and knew where I keep my shit.

Once I get my own place, I'm dropping 2k or so on a big awful bastard of a safe.

You'd probably want as few windows as possible, ideally none. Also probably want a 2 story with the safe on the top floor (depending on the area this could also preclude flood/water damage)

Oh and hang that room FULL of mirrors...just to fuck with people
>>
>>29799279
Trying for 1 window since I will be handloading and want some fresh air. I agree about second floor, also for tactical advantage.
>>
>>29799305

Nice - I commend you anon. Where are you looking at houses? Just finished up the process myself and had some similar criteria
>>
>>29794728
I'm right there with ya. Id love for something TR rated too.

From a prior thread I took some advice from another anon. Check eBay and Craig's list lots of mosher tl30 safes for around $2000 or less.

My plan is anchor it to a reinforced 2 foot concreat pad in the basement. Then build a cinder block room around it filled with 1/2" rebar and concrete for added security and fire protection. Figured I'd probably just pour the top for the room with rebar in it. This does basically make it impossible to remove if I ever move though.

I'm in the camp of put my coin collection and most valuable gun and papers in safe and use a low quality safe or steel locker for the rest.

I'm in NC, Raleigh area, looking north of Wake Forrest. Yeah, my dad taught me to load my own ammo. The first rifle I bought myself was a Marlin 336, second thing I bought was dies for his presses.

I've got a cheap shit safe to meet legal requirements here. Also an office style cabinet for my ammo.

Didn't bother with a decent safe, because it's on the top floor of a rental house. It'd have been too much hassle for something temporary.

I actually have an amusing story about buying a safe

>dad says I must buy a safe because I have a pile of guns that is slowly growing next to my bed
>find a 200 dollar safe on craigslist
>lady sends me pics, turns out to be an 800 pound behemoth with 12 locking lugs and 4 gauge steel
>hell yes
>rent a uhaul trailer and show up with a grinder and winch
>cut bolts off
>winch safe onto trailer
>do this while getting destroyed by mosquitoes and talking to her autistic brother who claims to have stolen a train
>hand her 200 bucks and drive home
>go to my local watering hole, as is my custom after working for an hour, and get drunk off rail rum and coors lite

It's worked out well, I just need to build rifle racks for the inside, I've been using shitty magnetic stick on racks till now
>>

Can we get a pic of your safe?
>>

>reasonable police response times

Our cops can't be bothered working burglary cases. Even if you've got an app on your laptop (that gets stolen) which calls home with its location, they won't respond. Too busy beating n.....black people and working undercover at strip clubs.

The local news station will be doing a story on their poor performance this week. In the meantime, we are on our own. That's why I have a gun.
>>
>>29797249
>document safe

I bought one (for documents). It has a sticker on it that says "This safe is not to be used for the storage of firearms or ammunition".

WTF? Our state has no gun safe standards and this locking box has got to be better then the night stand.
>>
>>29795559
I don't live in a crap neighborhood, byt that still downstairs mean I'll never get broken into, I'm not going to bank on the police showing up if I leave my guns laying around. It's more of deterrent to the random dindu trying to make a quick buck

I've just got your basic fireproof 36gun safe, set in the coolest room of the home if there would happen to be a fire. I'm in the rurals and not too worried about being robbed. Fire is my main priority by a mile.
Then I've got a computer case fan below the gun cases since that room gets frosty on the cement in the winter, that keeps it dry by blowing a lot of air under the safe.
Then the white bottles on top are most of the silica gel I've saved over the years. I just got done drying it out in the oven, so it hasn't made it's way in again. I'm sure it was still doing it's job, because the air is still so oddly dry feeling when I crack the door open and only the top 20% or so of the silica seemed discolored like it was full of moisture as I dumped it into pans. I just dried it to be safe since I hadn't yet.

And here's an older pic of the inside when I actually have everything in there. I don't usually keep mags in, but I thought I'd make a cool looking arrangement for picture purposes.
If it wasn't for the mosin nagant being so damn long, I'd have another upper shelf on the right side too.

Here is mine.

Its a Liberty Colonial 23 with a 60 minute burn rating at 1200F. The Lock is EMP rated by Sargent and Greenleaf. It has power and network ports inside. It also has 6 motion activated LED light strips and a 12 watt golden rod dryer. All totaled I have about 1400 invested in the safe. But I got the safe for $250 off so it would have been more.

I am very happy with it.

It'll take quite some time. Mostly because the list of handguns I want to buy is quite short. (Glock 17, 26, Ruger LCP, SP101, SR22, a 1911, a Swiss-made Luger P08, and finally a P210.)
>>
>>29793194

I build one into my garage floor.

made it like a missile silo and the door is hydraulically actuated by a hardened computer terminal hidden inside a nondescript foot locker.
>>
>>29795559

yup, my car got burglarized just the other day. Called cops and they said they wont even send someone or investigate at all but I can fill out a report online if I want it on record.
>>
>>29808998
A typical alarm isn't anything protective. You need a security camera on your valuables if you want even a slim chance at the criminal being caught.
>>
>>29799419
Can you tell me how that guy stole a train?
>>
>>29799336
TRTL-30X6 is my wet dream but I honestly can't afford to buy a $10K+ safe or haul it around, especially if it weighs over 3000 pounds. The Mosler TL-15 is going to be a fraction of the purchasing cost, the body is 80% as strong as the door, and it weighs about 1500 pounds (which is the upper limit of what most movers can handle). I'll probably use a Sentry fire-and-flood box inside my Mosler for important documents. I'll get a second fire safe for my ammo and less desirable guns (like 22's, hunting shotguns, or replaceable milsurp).

Long-term, I'd like a locking hobby room as additional security, but that's some ways off.
