Does anyone sell reproduction, refinished, or refurbished mauser c96 pistols? I would like one, but the price is rather high, and I intend to shoot this often, so it doesn't have to be particularly nice. I'll still buy one in original condition, but I'd rather not.

You and me both. I'm keeping my eyes out for a cheap one I can take to the range once every few months and keep on display, don't have the money for a 5k one with matching stock and numbers though.

Go buy a bolo, where are you that they cost that much? Hell the gunshows near me sell them from $700-1500 depending on condition

What is this bolo? And I haven't seen them locally for less then $1000. Well, at least any that you'd want to own.

>M1921 "Bolo" Mauser[edit]
Mauser began manufacturing a compliant version of the C.96 for commercial sale from 1920 to 1921. It featured smaller grips, a shorter 99 millimetres (3.9 in) barrel,[7] and was chambered for the standard 7.63×25mm Mauser. An experimental 8.15×25.2mm Mauser cartridge was used to replace the banned 9×19mm Parabellum and 9×25mm Mauser Export cartridges for domestic sales but it never caught on.

Mass-production of the weapon was from 1921 to 1930. It was sold in quantity to armies in the contested Baltic region and was carried by the Poles, Lithuanians, German Freikorps and White Russians. The Bolshevik government (and later the new Red Army) of the embryonic Soviet Union, purchased large numbers of this model in the 1920s or appropriated them from their defeated enemies.[17] The distinctive pistol became associated with the Bolsheviks and was thus nicknamed the "Bolo".[17] The "Bolo" model was also popular elsewhere, as the shorter barrel and smaller overall size made the gun easier to conceal.[18] There was also a version that used the "Bolo" frame but with a longer 132 millimetres (5.2 in) barrel.

Never seen that in the United States of Texas. Thanks for the info.

I wasn't going to refurbish it or refinish it. I know it would drop the value, that's why I asked where to get one that had this done already, so I can take it to the range a lot without worrying to much about beating it up a bit.

I could get you a fuckload of them. I'm in Europe though.

How comfortable would you be with international arms smuggling?

Problem with making a reproduction is you'd want to use a removable barrel but that wouldn't be authentic and thereby pointless. Norinco would probably do it if we'd let them sell in the US market again.

keep your eyes open, I snagged this one for $900. Also you're not going to want to shoot it a lot because they are quite finicky when it comes to ammo they like and old worn out springs.

I bought a bolo for 740 a few months ago, ended up trading it for a gun even in value. Couldn't get a buyer for the bolo, even at break even point.

fun guns but if you want to get rid of it, the market is limited.

I picked one up for 700 bucks, but that was 10 years ago and the finish was carry-worn off of one side.

They are highly popular collectors items so even low quality examples will be expensive.

They require a ludicrous amount of tooling and machining which deters companies from manufacturing reproductions.

Even if they did manufacture a reproduction it wouldnt be cheap. Im betting you couldnt get a modern repro C96 for less than 1,200.
