The thing is, the tank is going to break down or run out of ammo. You're literally killing 10,000-40,000 men. Bragg would have lost his nerve and ran. Lee would lost his nerve but eventually just sent out to raise more troops.
The Sherman will do some damage...a lot of it. It would send entire confederate Brigades into retreat. It would do better as an attacker against Richmond to kill all of it's fortifications.
Maybe it's only and best chance of success would be to storm into Confederate camp and kill all the head officers.

Literally single field gun. Civil War soldiers were accustomed to marching face-first into whole artillery batteries. Pickett's charge at Gettysburg, for example.
How long would it take for a Lee or a Jackson to look at that tank, understand it for what it was, and march their entire army right up its fucking ass? Two minutes? Three? Maybe four, if he was suffering from dysentery or some shit?

This isn't a cannon though. It's a mobile warmachine. Marching soldiers up to it would be like sending groups of people to tackle an 18 wheeler driving towards them.
The Sherman would have 3 machine guns. 2 30-06 guns shielded from the enemy, and one meat grinding 50 cal. Confederates walking up to something like that as they did in Picket's charge would be ludicrous.
Any machine gun on the Sherman would be more accurate than the rifle muskets the Union soldiers usually fired at the confederates. It's HE shell would be more destructive than any grape shot they previously encountered.
Only cannon hits to it's treads would help.
