Does anybody else hate how the new stainless USP's look with the laser engraved "HK" lettering? What were they thinking when they approved this design? You can hardly see the "HK" at all under most lighting.

Also, HK general thread, I guess.

Considering they've released 3 pistol lines since the USP, maybe you should be content that they even make them anymore

It's the closest thing to a UMP without dropping all the money ever on it. Needed some tweaks to make it really awesome, mostly the Shooters Element trigger components and YetiWurks grip. After that it's fantastic. Works pretty good with a suppressor too though not as quiet as an MP5 since it's direct blow back.

I'm planning on buying my first house and I want to buy my first gun too. I want just a pistol to defend myself and my family. I've got my eyes on a H&K USP, but I'm not sure if I want the Compact or the Standard. Does anyone with experience think that this is a good choice and which would you think is a better choice?

If it's not going to be something you are going to carry I'd suggest getting a rifle or shotgun. If you have some circumstance that requires you to keep your home defense gun hidden then get a full size handgun. A full size will always be easier to shoot than a compact.

If you have smaller hands, the full size USP will be too big. The trigger reach is a mile long. The Compact has a shorter trigger reach. I wear size medium motorcycle gloves. My hands aren't exactly lady sized, just "average," and the full size USP's trigger reach is borderline too long for me. In double action, I have to pivot my finger through the pull, barely reaching the trigger with my fingertip at its forward position.

It's one of the easiest handguns to shoot well. Single action is very nice, some minimal takeup and a very smooth break. The reset is decent too. It's also really easy to shoot fast, controlled pairs especially. My only gripe is the stock sights, while good, are black on black and can be hard to pick up. I'm probably going to replace at least the front with a fiber sight.

How is the trigger on the P7?
>>
>>29750895

Absolutely perfect break, reset is a tiny bit longer than most would probably prefer who are used to other striker fired guns. I don't have a trigger gauge so I can only really describe feel. There is no take-up, it just snaps then a bit of over travel, reset is almost full travel but that total travel is pretty small anyway.
>>
>>29750943
How would you compare the trigger reach of the double stack P7 to the full size USP, as opposed to the single stack P7? Is there much of a difference?

Woo Hk thread
>>
>>29751043

The P7M13 has a very square feel, the P7 PSP or M8 feel relatively thin and flat, comparable to other single stack autos. I've got pretty big hands so trigger reach has never been too much of an issue with either but the single stack P7s do feel better to me.

The USP feels about perfect and seems like it falls somewhere in between the reach of the P7 and P7M13. For comparison the USP trigger reach in double action is shorter than a Beretta 92.

I disagree.
I have a USPc .357 and a Glock 32 and while the 32 has a smaller slide, the grip is fatter and longer (but it is a bit lighter). The USPc hides better than the Glock, and at least in .357/40 you only lose one round capacity (even though you can jam a 13th round in I keep it at 12). I regularly carry both, but for IWB the HK is better, OWB there is really no difference.

It would be a good choice. Look for a used one. These guns don't hold their $900 new value well, so look for a lightly used one. They can be had for $550-650, depending on caliber. However, as the other anon said, the P2000 is probably a better choice, overall, unless you are dead-set on a USP. It's quite a bit cheaper, and is slicker on the sides and a little lighter, which makes it better for CC.
>>

That's because it's a 2016 gun, and less than a year old. Not like you're going to holster that gun, but if you ever got it refinished, the HK would all but disappear.

It isn't about showing off. It's just poor aesthetics if you can hardly see the manufacturer rollmark, and it's a mark of poor craftsmanship if such critical information can easily wear off. Every other brand of handgun has a clearly visible rollmark of the company name on the slide, and with every other brand of handgun, it's an engraving, not paint.
